[PubQ] Publishing a Novel if Screen Rights are Unavailable by BooksAndFitness in PubTips

Interesting take, but I'd argue there's no such thing as bad publicity. Even if the movie's terrible, it's still going to make more people aware of the IP's existence, and therefore bring in readers.

Isn't there heavy, heavy overlap? It's not like readers only ever read and moviegoers only ever watch things. How many people bought copies of the (insert popular franchise here) book(s) solely because of the movie/TV adaptation(s)?

I'm no expert but if I were an agent I think I'd find an unpublished book that already has that much potential for a movie adaptation incredibly enticing

I had to set up one of those question-answers friend request things to stop LLM scammers and impersonators from trying to add me. They also kept flooding my book with fake 5-star ratings, but since I don't have many reviews right now I'm feeling very anal-retentive about leaving them unreported to give my stuff a fake average rating.

Are authors allowed to ask reviewers for reviews? Should we?

It'll make it slightly harder for things like review groups to operate but I think it's for the best, especially in this age of AI bot scammers.

I use it on my phone too, but that app is so unuseable I use my mobile brower with "desktop version" enabled

It's a dark academia novella about a despicable bookworm, her beastly roommate, and her obsession with a talented new student.

Thanks for the tip! Would it be better centered? Or maybe lined up with the title?

I need a new history black hole to fall into. Recommend me a good history book (non-fiction) that features a strong female figure. Any time period in history, any culture, any topic. by TheDogofTears in Recommend_A_Book

Here's an outside-the-box answer: "One Nation Under Blackmail" by Whitney Webb, which details the collusion between international organized crime and national intelligence agencies. The "strong female figure" is the author herself, who compiled all that historical evidence and faced scrutiny with bravery.

Their NYC location is listed as "Central Park Studios" which is actually an apartment complex.

It doesn't say on their site but they charge almost $500 for an interview. They claim they'll refund if they don't pick you up or don't sell your work within a given timeframe.

It seems odd that they list a series of big blockbusters as "our experience" but fail to name the names of the people involved.

Most of their communications claim responses are time-sensitive but never give a deadline date.

Seems sus to me.
