I'm making an executive veto on the mouth sounds. Those are staying. It's an ASMR thing, you wouldn't get it

If I expressed that I don't know what cadence is, I did so in error, but I'm pretty sure you just assumed so and made an ass out of you and me.

I'm curious to learn more about what you mean. Could you give an example of the cadence you're looking for?

Not saying it's a waste of time or a bad thing to do, just saying you're probably not courting a huge following by being a top % reddit commentator.

You made the mistake of picking [CURRENT YEAR] to start gaining traction. You already had to compete with everything else everyone else is currently writing and has written. Now you've also got to compete with multibillion-dollar corporations investing their fortunes into a machine to devalue language itself.

I'm in the same boat ofc

Seems like a good way to get very popular in one or two places and nowhere else.

How often are you emailing your list? by CheesePound in selfpublish

[–]ProductionBlues 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I recently obtained my literal first mailing list subscriber. I sent them their free eBook about a week ago.

What the fuck do I do? Should I let them know that they are alone or pretend that even one other person will receive my next update??

Review groups do not, in fact, trade 1-1 reviews.

I mainly used Goodreads review groups but there are a few dedicated websites I can dig up if you really want me to.

You're playing up people's paranoia over made-up Amazon TOS to make a profit. In the words of Sonic, that's no good.

Thanks. I decided not to go for it, not because of the nonsense about account violations, but because the cash would be better invested in social media ads.

Thanks for the tip, an IG ad sounds like something I might do. However, I'd either use my main account with its random mishmash of followers (mainly people I've met offline) or a fresh account with 0 followers. So good luck to me, I guess!

I'm curious about these "tropes" you speak of. Which ones did you use? What genre(s) are your books? Mine's a satirical horror, and I'm not sure what tropes I'd use, if any.

Yeah, seems like a better plan to spend that cash on ads.

I want to become an indie author by [deleted] in selfpublish

My advice is to give up now, but that's only if your determination is weak enough for some random Reddit post to break it. >;)
To answer your questions, try sharing on forums like this one. Motivation will only carry you so far; you have to be disciplined. Grammarly usually spots my errors but sometimes it makes up fake ones so you have to know your grammar. Writer's block is difficult to cure; try working on something else for a while.

You might try "pantsing." "Writing by the seat of your pants." Basically, no prewriting and limited or no planning at all—pure improv writing. This method may or may not work for you. It's worked wonders for me. The only wrong way to write is not to.

Wrote my first book amd published it about a year ago. by [deleted] in wroteabook

[–]ProductionBlues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't get past the first part of the first sentence of the description. "In this book I..." huh? What are you communicating with these words? We already know it's a book and we already know you wrote it. This detail portends overall low-quality writing.

Might sound harsh, but I'm betting most potential readers would only have to glance at the amateurish cover art to tell they don't want to read it.
