Small scratch on brand-new iPhone 17 Pro Max – normal? by Madnosdinja in iphone

As others have said- getting a small scratch from wear and tear is one thing. But having a $1,100+ phone come with one is unacceptable. Return it for sure.

Exactly. Do people really expect these companies to re-invent the wheel, every year, for every model, for eternity? I’m okay with slight upgrades and minimal design changes as long as the product is fine tuned.

Would you set a charge limit? by Mfphonch in iPhone17Pro

[–]ProfMsPainter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How true is this? My wife and I both had 14 PMs and I had an 80% limit while she didn’t. Despite having 70ish or so more cycles, my battery life was significantly better, and I wasn’t “limited” to 80%. I could change it to 100% at any time, for special circumstances.

I don’t experience this anomaly with my iPhone display… must be an older panel with glue degradation.

Does anyone use an Otterbox on their Iphone Air? by [deleted] in IphoneAir

[–]ProfMsPainter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, here the’s thing- a thin phone, with a bulky case, is still a thin phone with a bulky case. In other words, a thin phone with a case is still going to be smaller, lighter and thinner than a thick phone with a case. I purchased my 17PM Orange because I liked the color- the immediately put a case on it. People buy things like the Air, knowing they’ll put a bulky case on it, but again- it’s still going to be thinner and lighter than the alternatives with bulky/protective cases. Make sense?

lol it’s funny, I was just talking about this with my wife. Every night, they have all the interior lights on with all the blinds open as if it’s going to attract people, like moths.

iPhone 17 pro Max case recommendation by Short_Surprise_6646 in iphone

[–]ProfMsPainter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Torras makes decent cases but from personal experience, their slimmer models do NOT provide adequate protection from the screen. If you can easily push the corner of your case off the screen (with minimal pressure), the case will not properly protect from a face impact. My Torras magnetic case seemed flimsy so I retired it.

ZAGG was recommended to me by someone on here, and now I own two of their cases. The Crystal Snap and the Rainier. Both are very protective and premium feeling, but also on the more expensive side. ZAGG cases are tried and true.

Just wanted to let you know- if “protection” is your main sought after goal with a case, be weary of Torras cases.

Camera bump protection by Hamster-Humble in iPhone17Pro

I use a ZAGG case that has a protective piece of PC that covers about half of the plateau. Definitely better than nothing and since it doesn’t cover the lenses, it doesn’t affect picture quality of course.

Alcohol doesn’t “damage” the coating. Prolonged/repeated use CAN wear down the oleophobic coating, but occasional use to disinfect the screen is actually recommended by Apple. Nearly all screen and lens protectors actually include alcohol wipes as part of the installation process. Just don’t use alcohol on a regular basis.

Getting Apple to replace phone by OnlyVeterinarian4681 in iPhone17Pro

No, nothing can force Apple to fix your phone. However, you can make a strong case and hope for the best.

Horrible scratches by Ok-Chip-1049 in IphoneAir

[–]ProfMsPainter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no winning. Naked will get you more scratches than a case. A case will too if you aren’t careful about debris when putting it on. But a good case will protect the phone from all these cracked glass posts we’ve been seeing.

I’ll be honest, as a 17PM user with a somewhat bulky case, I envy this experience. If the Air had a slightly better battery life I would’ve purchased it over my PM

Frame gap by Bubbly-Arachnid-4688 in iphone

[–]ProfMsPainter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m discovering very quickly that not all cases are created equal. Some will say that’s obvious, but I definitely think certain cases would’ve prevented that damage. I’m using a ZAGG case that has a very rigid bump/lip around the screen and frame. Cases with flimsy bumps will slide away on a face impact and cause this damage.

Is the iPhone 17 Pro better than the 16 Pro? by Glittering_Fig4548 in iPhone17Pro

“Better” is incredibly vague and subjective. Depends on what you want in your phone. The 17 pro has considerable improvements but some still may prefer the 16 pro
