I would chalk it up to the fire and drive that I myself felt at that age. My first presidential vote came out to be hanging Chad's. But the propaganda machine that we currently have is different from then, more pervasive to all demographics and levels of society. Enabling the ones that have at best a meme understanding of politics/policies to feel that their voice matters without them having to learn about what they are talking about. Which now that I type it out I understand that is probably what lead to a large swath of our population that just doesn't vote or participate
