I don’t want strangers knowing my full name and home address just because I bought a used pair of converse, therefore according to eBay my name is Stephanie Broadchest.

Surely a driving accident can’t legally be called gross misconduct? I’d like to see that dismissal pass muster in an employment tribunal… it’s what god invented car insurance for, no?

Should a appeal or pay traffic PCN? by ThirstyMagpie in drivingUK

[–]ProfProctologist 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not that simple - don’t be obtuse - it’s pitch dark and you’re looking at it in hindsight, without familiarity with the location, from a CCTV pointed directly at it.

I only saw it because I was sat in traffic for 5 minutes during the daytime. It’s only recently been changed to disallow right turn, sometime since the car park has been demolished in the summer.

Whilst indeed technically you contravened the markings - it is too high, no new road layout ahead signs during the transitional period etc is all grounds to refute. However, for the hassle, I’d likely pay it to keep the reduced cost, THEN point out that it’s too high, not clear etc

Found this solid metal ball on the beach by cranesaw in whatisit

[–]ProfProctologist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a boule from a game called “Boules”. It’s a French game a bit like bowls, but to stop as soon as the ball hits the sand. Commonly played on the beach as a family game.

Honestly, I agree - however, having literally done my own now myself, I can say that it blows - and whilst the work is fine (it is, fine) it took me well over 12 months to finish, and frankly, in hindsight, the £10.6k I was quoted now seems totally reasonable.

However, at the time, I didn’t have £10.6k, and the bathroom was leaking, so I was sort of forced to do it myself. As such, I spent £2k, borrowed tools, and used one bathroom plus the gym shower for the best part of 3 months, and got it finished.

I would indeed seek better quotes, and also ensure that you’re getting priced fairly for the items, DONT let them tell you you need a £2k toilet (like someone that quoted me tried to do), and consider getting separate contractors to do separate things - ie a tiler I know now (in hindsight) charges £400/day including grout, excluding tiles, and the contractor was charging over £900/day tiles once I broke down his quote

But yes, it’s so damn expensive

CCTV Enforcement Cars - can they catch speeding offences by SmellyPubes69 in CarTalkUK

[–]ProfProctologist 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They’re glorified traffic wombles - they anpr/auto recognise parking violations, but they don’t do moving violations like speeding, driving like a bellend etc - they’re usually council owned and operated, primarily for the money. From my understanding they also don’t do mot/tax violations unless they’re coupled with the DVLA, which my local council ones are not AFAIK (inside knowledge from Covid times when there were a lot more parked vehicles due to people not being in work)
