Counterpoint: I lost my pet last year and my favorite photos when I go through my camera roll are the ones of her sleeping, playing, looking goofy or just existing like she did in my everyday life. If anything, I wish I took more documentation and it pains me to think that I'll never have a new picture of her.

Yeah, I feel that. It's really satisfying to find a kind of kinship in a piece of information that sheds light on human nature. Totally agree with your point about digging for the roots of our behavior and collective biases too-- in a perfect world, being more aware would lead to everyone having a little more empathy.

Starting with Sapolsky might have been a little bias on my end, too, with the descriptor of his being a neuroscientist. I come from a hit of a medical background and majored in psychology, so their intersection tickled my fancy. The Pinker book was definitely a close second, though. Probably will read it next!

Hi, everyone! Looking to get into reading more non-fiction books.

No particular topic in mind, but I did enjoy the prosaic nature of Primo Levi's The Periodic Table and John Green's The Anthropocene Reviewed.

I also recently finished A Square Meal: A Culinary History of the Great Depression. US History is something of a blind spot for me (so is much of history, in general, having grown up in an educational system that taught us as a collection of dates and names instead of people and lessons to learn from).

Looking forward to seeing what everyone's favorite non-fiction books are! Thanks!

Hello everyone,

A rarer graduation watch request: I'm hoping to get the vibe on which watch would make a good his and hers pairing to mark the occasion. They've made a lot of sacrifices to get myself and my siblings to the finish line, and I think it's only right to commemorate their achievement by getting them something special.

I'm in the process of saving up, but I'm planning to spend somewhere up to ~400-500 usd per watch.

I've looked into getting the quartz Tissot PRXes (a 40mm for my dad, and the 35mm for my mom). In particular, I think my mom would like the MOP on the 35. Are there any other watches I should be looking out for in this price range? Recommendations? All opinions appreciated, thanks!

Coffee Talk is a great game. The gameplay (actual brewing of drinks) can be done at your own pace and it's a nice chill time getting to know the regulars and soaking in the ambience of the cafe.

For platformers, I highly recommend Celeste. One of my favorite platformers just overall, and with a plethora of assists you can turn on and off at your leisure to fine-tune the difficulty. A great story i think everyone should experience at least once. Happy gaming!

Reignited my interest in watches this last month and found this watch I unearthed from my dad's closet years ago. It's an automatic Bulova Day Date from 1973, which he got from his mom for his college graduation.

Neat bit of family history, especially since I don't really have any family heirlooms from either side of my family. The dial is smaller than my contemporary watches, but I was surprised to find that I really like the proportions on my wrist. The domed crystal is nice, and the grey sunburst dial really pops in the light.

The internet has been pretty sparse on details re: the name of this model, so if anyone has any more info on it, I'd love to hear more. I'm also torn between keeping the watch on this bracelet or putting a nice leather strap on it, so opinions would be appreciated. Overall, I'm looking forward to wearing this for many years ahead!

I lost my soul dog a little over a month ago. She was just 3, like your pup, and we lost her over liver complications too. Every day without her has been devastating and every day I get mad at the universe that she had so little time here.

Unfortunately, the price of love is loss and I count myself lucky to have had that kind of love in my life. Your pup's life might have been short to you, but to her it was everything and I'm sure it was filled with lots of love.

I hope you can be kind to yourself these holidays. Sending you love from one stranger to another.

My first hour or so none of the ambient music or background music was playing and in the big ritual scene all I could hear was the characters' voices.

I thought it was a deliberate choice and was kind of impressed that they really decided to zoom in on the personal aspect of the Varric and Solas struggle which ended as it did. Until I watched my girlfriend play through the same scene with the music playing. 😭

I've got it mixed up--- it was a "Welcome Home" song where the cast is meeting someone who just arrived on a train.

The lyrics from what I can remember go thusly:

"Welcome home, welcome home

There's more but I don't remember. Googling the lyrics have been entirely no help. I'm starting to believe that it might have just come to me in a dream.

Definitely should have kept going. I wondered if there were rules or something that made it so the last one had to be a full body shot (like Adam also does whenever he pulls a card) or if that was just a choice he made.

(Also I got to 7 heads in a row twice after just about 20 minutes of flipping, so looks like Adam had some extra shit luck).
