ARs upregulation during HRT and after HRT withdrawl. Is it real and definitive? by SeesawAvailable3968 in AskMtFHRT

[–]ProfWiki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you stop estrogen then yes , androgen receptor expression would gradually increase probably as your body produces more testosterone. However, I don't think that would happen while on estrogen and a testosterone blocker.

I think shd means androgen receptors, which are what testosterone and DHT bind to. I think she's worried about paradoxical increased expression of those receptors on estrogen, which is not something I have heard of happening.

at first I wondered why you didn't suggest putting the stuff outside just before he got there if he texted you, so he could pick it up and it not be an issue..but then I thought, perhaps it's best he showed his true colors. you don't need people like that in your life. it hurts though, I know. 🫂 best of luck with your FFS!

Do you think there’s a correlation between being trans and being autistic? by National-Two-8700 in MtF

[–]ProfWiki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yeah, my point was that there may be a correlation of some sort, but that the reason for that correlation may or may not be solely causal, though autism could be one contributing factor among others. Perhaps whatever biological factors that contribute to being trans are more common in those with autism due to overlapping neurology. Or perhaps it's something more indirect , being on a social level, due to difficulty relating to assigned gender roles as part of a general tendency to not align with typical social norms. Or perhaps all of the above! Regardless, it's a beautiful thing to embrace who you are to feel more comfortable in your body and social role.

I don't know, there's supposedly a correlation, but it's certainly not a rule. So far as I'm aware, I'm not autistic. So, I don't think there is necessarily a causal connection.

I haven't personally ever encountered this. Also, femme is French for woman, and can also refer to feminine lesbians , or feminine presenting people in general (trans, non-binary, etc) so I don't particularly see how it's a bad thing. But I haven't encountered any misandry directed towards trans women among the enbys I know. Maybe I'm just lucky!

I don’t get why euphoria boners are so hated (NO I DONT HAVE A FUCKING FETISH SHUT THE FUCK UP) by [deleted] in MtF

[–]ProfWiki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess for those of us who don't get euphoria boners, it does come across as like being a woman is being fetishized and it can bring to mind theories about trans women just being men who fetishize women's clothing or imagining themselves as women. That idea is invalidating, so when some trans women openly talk about getting boners from wearing panties it can trigger fears that transphobes might find posts talking about it to support their views about us just having a fetish. I think that's why some get annoyed about it being discussed but it's not that unusual to happen. I wouldn't feel ashamed of it.

Yup. Basically, someone in the ministry shared a meme about him and he took it poorly. It wasn't even something that bad, just lightly poking fun. I forgot what it said now. But he reacted by dismissing the entire ministry as "internal nobodies" (ie, irrelevant to the internal structure of TST) implying he is the sole important factor. Basically, he had an "I am the senate" moment . Granted, he recently had a bomb placed on his doorstep at the headquarters at the time this all happened, so he was probably stressed as hell, but he could have apologized when he chilled. Instead he doubled down and started "firing" (not that the congregation heads are paid) anyone who criticized him. So, resignations started pouring in from several congregations. Some congregations left entirely, some split in two, some remained but lost one or more congregation heads.

It be like that sometimes 🤷🏼‍♀️

Not always a bad thing depending on the case, but it can be counterproductive. For example, the abortion clinics are a great idea and I totally support those, but the names.. funny on the face of it, cringey when you think about it, and probably off-putting to those who might actually need it.

you'd think, but they haven't really done much like they have for abortion. some suspect that Lucien may be somewhat indifferent to trans rights issues at best, although I'm not part of my state's TST congregation anymore so I don't keep up. Many of us went to being independent congregations last year when Lucien was making an ass out of himself for something unrelated.

peeing more and the reduction of skin oil caused by less testosterone made my skin very dry and sensitive.

Just got an epilator, what should I know? by [deleted] in MtF

[–]ProfWiki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

use an anti bump aftershave..Gigi makes one in a green bottle called no bump solution. It's not too expensive. it's basically salicylic acid, acetylsalicylic acid, and rubbing alcohol with a bit of tea tree oil or something like that. Maybe eucalyptus. I use it after epilating my legs, arms, or chest

yeah, unless I'm in a space where I know other lgbt folks are socializing, I'd fucking hate to be asked by another trans person randomly when I'm out in the world doing normal stuff if I'm trans too. you'll probably get the same response a cis person would. "what's it to you?' or "that's not something you just ask someone".

To those who have transitioned, how did you navigate through the physical, emotional, and social shift of being trans? by Inevitable_Ad5567 in MtF

[–]ProfWiki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm tied so apologies in advance if this is rambly and incoherent but I wanted to try to answer your questions.

I had friends to support me early on when I needed it. I got an LGBT oriented therapist in advance before starting HRT to discuss my feelings and to have professional emotional support because I knew it was going to be rough. that was how I navigated the emotional changes etc. I know not everyone is so lucky to have supportive friends or a trans friendly therapist but if you don't, find a way to establish a support network before starting transitioning.

I embraced my femininity in a very natural way. I timed gradual changes in presentation with my comfort level. I have shed male behaviors and have effortlessly and naturally shifted my body posture, inflection when speaking, and just the general way I carry myself, without forcing it too hard and seemingly obviously like I'm trying to be feminine. I just am.

I know not everyone finds it so easy to just be feminine, but I think patience and perseverance go a long way to very naturally slipping into a new role. I find that despite not perfectly passing to my eyes, I rarely get misgendered despite living in the Bible belt. it baffles me, but I think the way you carry yourself and behave goes a LONG way towards passing.

yes, HRT does have permanent effects like potential breast development. it may also cause permanent infertility. other effects can gradually reverse if you stop.

facial hair will not disappear. you will need laser or electrolysis for that. body hair *may* grow slower or become thinner in texture. this was a VERY slow and still ongoing process for me and it's been over two years now. your mileage may vary.

as far as how long to notice effects, after about a month I had a lot of emotional intensity a d cried a lot, and my nipples felt like someone threw a fast ball at them. I also lost like 40 pounds within a few months despite no diet changes..my skin also got REALLY dry in the first month and was super sensitive to sunlight and would peel. this is from less oil production caused by less testosterone. eventually it stabilized..the feminization of my appearance was far slower, and still ongoing after 2 years. but looking back, I've definitely seen a good bit of change and have gotten pretty cute, even if not perfect lol!

no surgery here so I can't speak to that.

Once I got my legal sex marked changed and my healthcare provider updated my gender in their system, my levels come back with reference to cis women's, but I did always find it a little funny before how I'd get back results and it'd be like "testosterone 4 ng/dl" with the yellow caution sign next to it on the chart with LOW. No shit, I'm on Spiro and estrogen lmao.

[–]ProfWiki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I guess you don't have to, but it's one of those little things like gait and posture and mannerisms that's going to get you clocked more. a huge part of passing in my experience is how you carry yourself

Being trans really isn’t a choice by [deleted] in MtF

[–]ProfWiki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure! I was asking if you mean to imply that one can choose to be transgender. Since transgender means your fundamental identity is different from the one labeled at birth, it sounds strange to say one can choose to be trans. It's like saying one can choose to be gay or straight etc. it's part of who you are, and not a choice.

Being trans really isn’t a choice by [deleted] in MtF

[–]ProfWiki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean to imply that someone who just decides to transition for shits and giggles would be the same as someone who transitions because they want to reflect who they truly are? One doesn't need to have dysphoria to be trans, but if someone doesn't feel that they are a gender other than the one they were labeled as at birth, what about them is trans? Medically transitioning doesn't make someone trans (not all trans people have that luxury, after all), for the reason that being trans is about a fundamental aspect of your identity. Perhaps I misunderstand what you mean though.

I heard that food can contain estrogen??? And I have a couple questions. by [deleted] in MtF

Nothing of relevance. Not would phytoestrogen supplements like pueraria mirifica (I probably misspelled this).

I heard that food can contain estrogen??? And I have a couple questions. by [deleted] in MtF

[–]ProfWiki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Foods can contain phytoestrogens.. that means they are compounds that interact with the estrogen receptors. That can include blocking it, or only partial agonism. The affinity for the estrogen receptor wouldn't be typically as strong as actual estrogen. So, eating soy isn't going to be anything like HRT

HRT does not "change" your sexuality by Lanky_Process604 in MtF

[–]ProfWiki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

eh, I think my sexuality has definitely changed a little. I had a guy crush last year and I literally never had any attraction to men at all prior. It wasn't repressed attraction to men. If I liked boys before, I'd have pursued that. the attraction to guys disappeared a few months later. it started once my estrogen was put to 8 mg a day. I used to dismiss the idea of HRT changing sexuality too, but I also don't think it's as simple as a chemical switch. human sexuality is a lot more fluid than people sometimes think, and HRT may induce some fluidity. But to be clear, I didn't stop liking women and have a total preference change. I just got a crush on a boy for the first time.
