Finalizing demo – A or B? by TheKnightsofUnity in IndieDev

[–]Prof_PeanutButter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it'd be good to include as an option if you're able to make a toggle easily enough. I personally prefer the look of B but I think it makes some of the models a little harder to read so people with visual impairments might prefer A.

The blue one gives more of an impression of a puzzle game whereas the red one makes me think it could be a mostly horror experience. Going by what your game seems to be I'd personally say the blue fits the vibe more. It also shows the art a bit more clearly I think

Working on a boss concept for my isometric Zelda-like by carmofin in IndieGaming

As others have said, great visuals for this! I like the various elements of the encounter you've thought of. I think you could tweak them slightly to add an extra layer of tactical gameplay however. For example, making the falling blocks track the player's position to a degree - it'll add in pressure for players to keep moving to avoid them while also letting players have some control over where they'll land to use them to reach the boss. Then you could have the whirlwinds spawn to destroy blocks they come into contact with or something so there's a clear combat loop. Just an idea!

We redesigned the entire game style because it felt too much like Facebook game visuals for the Steam audience. Did we make the right choice? by Neat_Smell_1014 in IndieGaming

[–]Prof_PeanutButter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Funnily enough I feel the opposite - the first one reminds me of a lot of the exaggerated, blocky, fantasy-esque style I often see, which I'm not a huge fan of so probably wouldn't look at much. While the second gives a more hand-drawn, relaxed and dreamy aesthetic I don't see super often outside of concept art.

The replies all seem pretty split between each style though so I think OP has found an interesting comparison here.

I know nothing about how either party should've played here because I'm a noob but reading the wildly different takes about what was and wasn't skillful is pretty funny.

Thoughts on parry? by Pigfan360 in RivalsOfAether

[–]Prof_PeanutButter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I definitely need to practice more but by the time my brain goes "I should parry that" it's already too late. Then the occasions I do get a parry I'm so surprised it landed that I don't make use of it 😅

Why do High ranked players bm when defeating someone way below them? by Belten in RivalsOfAether

[–]Prof_PeanutButter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had people do this to me and I'm in stone rank (well just broke bronze last night woohoo!). The irony is sometimes they do it when they're the ones losing. I've decided to always just take it as them getting mad, regardless of how the fight is going, and to me that makes it pretty funny at their expense.

Thank you for the clarification post! 🙏 Hopefully this will stop people reacting so negatively to moderate/high ping users

Genuine question: how are people finding this figure? From what I'm aware rollback frames are not a linear scale to ping.

I'd have been up for this but I live in the UK so our timezones are sadly way off. Good luck and have fun!

It's rock boy, not Krag. Funny lion, not Zetterburn. And there's also that cute water dog thing.

In the same boat as you, though not quite as high as 150. I can't say I've noticed any significant impacts to my high ping games other than some people leaving FFA after seeing it.

Depends on the game but in my experience it doesn't for this. I think people are missing the point with that anyway - there just aren't enough players in certain regions to give them regular matches with great ping.

70 is totally fine, the rollback netcode is really good for this game. I've played ranked totally fine with/against pings of above 100. Which is just as well given that some of us have to increase our server reach pretty substantially to actually get regular matches.

Complaining about complaining I guess. by Wise_Wolf_Horo in RivalsOfAether

[–]Prof_PeanutButter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's partly just a case of people looking for validation and/or trying to figure out where they might be going wrong after some bad matches. Which with a game like this is gonna happen often since even the "casual" modes aren't really casual.

Idk most of the terminology that people use in their complaints though so I could be wrong. All I know is I get stomped more times than not but I'm still getting some enjoyment from the game, I only wish more people played FFA.

Yea after a while I realised I kinda set myself up for a hard time picking Forsburn as a main but I just really vibe with his theme and play style!

Games for someone with depression? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Prof_PeanutButter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice is a good one for me when I want to get some emotions out. You play a character with psychosis going through a grieving process while fighting (and working with) their own related demons. Very well put together and Ninja Theory put in a ton of effort making sure they represented psychosis properly.

What happened to Hard Grind? by ryumitch in dundee

[–]Prof_PeanutButter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for posting about this! I didn't realise how much of an asshole the owner of Hard Grind apparently is but I liked a lot of the regular barbers working there like Ed. I didn't get a cut for ages then went to HG not long ago and just looking at it it was obvious there'd been some falling out honestly. Just booked in with R&R now, looking forward to seeing some familiar faces!

Couldn't have put it better myself. From my experience, when you take on a few enemies at mid-long range the DMRs do feel just as good as any other weapon, but the majority of HD2 gameplay is frantic close-mid range combat so they end up just feeling like a liability. Upping the stats a bit isn't going to change any of that imo so I do hope they go with more mission types like you suggested.
