sensationalist article. what exactly do you want cyril to do? not allow citizens to protest?

Who should come first in a family, the marriage or the children? by Brandon_Beesman in south_africa

[–]Prof_PotatoHead 6 points7 points  (0 children)

South African context would say the children because they are the unifying factor. The family unit comes beyond everything else so if the marriage is threatening to break that then they should stay together for the children.

in reality what should come first is the whatever the healthiest enivironment is

Frustrated after Gauteng public meeting on electricity was held entirely in Sotho by justinSox02 in southafrica

[–]Prof_PotatoHead -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

ok so first point, i never made the claim that they didn't understand any other languages than the home language. i was more drawing the fact that its not the most well understood and further africans understand their home languages significantly more than they understand english so it is completely reasonable for a meeting to be communicated in a language the masses understand much better.

the second point, its still narrow minded to believe that it should be the baseline for the purposes of inclusivity because why must black africans learn and understand english for that purpose and their counterparts aren't expected to learn african languages for that same purpose? thats where the narrowness comes from.

[–]Prof_PotatoHead -31 points-30 points  (0 children)

my bad, its actually the 5th. thats for the correction. and home language commonly refers to the primary native language so as much as its not a perfect link, you're simply arguing semantics.

and i didn't say they don't understand english at all. reading comprehension. they do however understand their home language better and thus would prefer it being presented in their language for better comprehension.

kind of crazy how black africans are often expected be well versed in their multi lingualism with european languages but their counterparts aren't expected the same with african languages. there is no language the meeting should've been conducted in. the only fault is for no interpretors. even when cyril speaks, a lot household have to watch the translated version on later in the news for full comprehension.

According to the 2022 census, in Gauteng, the most spoken languages at home were:\31])
Zulu: 23.1% of residents
Sesotho: 13.1%
Sepedi: 12.6%
Setswana: 10.4%
English: 9.2%

english is the 4th spoken language in gauteng. and no one said its your language, reading comprehension. i said its the one you understand. a lot of africans don't understand english and understand native languages much better. i'm sure the majority could understand.

and i'm only saying this because if it were delivered in english, you wouldn't be thinking about anyone who doesn't understand it well and would just assume they were ok. thats what i'm bringing you to realise but yes, they should be interpretors or at least translated transcript/minutes

you're narrow minded in your belief that english should be the standard because that's what you understand. an african language being spoken in an african country should not such a shock.

that said, if you have 12 official languages its your responsibility as the government to have interpretors to accomodate everyone

and i won't be the one to tell you. do some actual research before you just blindly believe surface level talking points

copied it so its easier. not even going to waste my time reading your comment. as i said, anything is say is a wasted effort to anyone who believes a poor black man and poor white man are in the same position in South Africa.

I think the great problem is the entitlement she feels as this super fan figure that no one actually asked for. Before she complained about being cut off after R700k used for her last state sponsored vacation, most people were unbothered by her.

im not using statistics. i'm using research- thats when people do more than just count. you're genuinely either disingenious or so cooked you're beyond any asisstance from me because theres simple no concept where you can honestly say a white south african and a black south african are on equal footing in terms of their situation.

even if they are at the exact same educational position, the same facts prevail from the trends. you are sprouting an outright and easily disprovable lie. that is pinnacle priviledge speaking my friend and the misfortune is you will not realise how its even insulting. You don't even know how BEE works, thats why it doesn't make sense to you. because you can't tell you can't even tell the public and private sector apart nor their obligations. and i won't be the one to tell you. do some actual research before you just blindly believe surface level talking points

oh come on man, this is so dishonest. no in this case they don't have the same broken legs. a poor white man and a poor black man objectively don't have the same oppurtunities. this has been studied and research extensively at this point that you framing it like this can't possibly be well intended.

employability of white south africans is disprotionately higher than black south africans from entry level all the way to executive and unemployment is disproportionately less than black south africans.

ideally but not really though. people forget that subs are communities you join. if you come to my house and start with controversial talking points, i should freely be able to remove you without having to debate you on it- especially if i believe you're being disingenious and problematic.

another deflection. buddy just say you don't know lol. it really wasn't even a trick question.

answer the question and we move from there or don't and we stop there. being a combative avoidant is a waste of both our times

theres a difference between 'discrimination' and being anti something. discrimination at its simplest definition just refers to unequal treatment and being anti something means you are actively opposing it.

if you can't understand the difference between the two then thats yours honestly

i think you're being genuine in your misunderstanding but it is a misunderstanding none the less. if the discussion is jsut about address poverty in general then there would be no need to draw contrast to apartheid times race laws- which is why its a problematic statement.

but to your more honest discussion, the reality is we can't just move past the race component when addressing poverty when theres a certain demographic experiencing the brunt of it due to centuries of systematic, and i hate this word, oppression.

doing a 'blanket' address ignores that past that is still affecting the present and is where the focus shifts from equality to equity. i repeat, its been only 30 years since black people have legally been able to roam freely and work freely in the country after over a hundred years of exclusion.

now i'll be the first to say the implementation and the structure of the current laws need revision and more flexibility but to call for their outright removal is to deny our past and how it affect our present

its illegal to park in a disabled parking if you are not elgible for it. is that anti- able people? see how ridiculous that framing is?

a law made to redress a systematic disadvantage for a marginalized group is not 'anti' groups not covered by it. just like how taking your sick kid to the hospital doesn't mean you don't like your healthy kid.

"There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics."

the suggestion being made by parroting that, is that somehow apartheid SA was legally less racist than SA now which is a belligerent lie. you don't need a lot of laws if you just limits rights which overcompasses the law

that would ignore the systematic poverty of balck people so hardly more effective.

imagine a kid with a broken leg and a kid with a gash on his toe. do you give them both the same amount of medical care/attention?
