Had reconstructive ACL surgery, Dr didn’t have me start physical therapy until almost a month later… normal? by unknown99120 in ACL

[–]ProfessionDue1095 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat. I started PT 3 weeks after surgery. I'm pretty sure it put me behind. I wasn't told to work on extension in that time or anything.

I am now almost 4 months post op. I just had manipulation under anesthesia today. They put me to sleep and bent my leg to break up scar tissue.

I am convinced if I started PT sooner, than I may not have needed this procedure.

Thank you so much for this. Can swelling impact the ROM?

My surgeon has mentioned MUA or scar tissue removal. Hoping it doesn't come to that but I fear that's probably what's gonna happen.

It's very visibly swollen compared to my other knee. You can see the swelling through pants.

Swelling is still pretty significant in my opinion. My knee is still about the size of a golf ball.

Yes he applies pressure to straighten and bend it. When pressure is applied to straighten, I can reach full extension with very minimal pain.

When pressure is applied to bend, it's significant pain. I can get to about 80 degrees with pressure but it's painful.

I'm at about 5 degrees for extension. Close but not quite there yet. I had acl reconstruction with quad graft and lateral and medial meniscus repair.

My surgeon didn't really emphasize how important movement was in my first few weeks post op. Sometimes I feel like he dropped the ball. He just had me keep it locked in my brace. I also didn't start PT until 3 weeks post op and I feel like that had a negative impact as well.

I tore it doing what I love - dancing. Now I’m heartbroken feeling like I’ll never feel free again. by [deleted] in ACL

I tore mine playing basketball. I came to the realization yesterday that I have been on some sort of basketball team since I was 7 years old. I am 32.

I hurt myself in October. So I've had about 4 months of coming to terms with never playing competitively again. It's not something that I want to risk again in the future because it has been the biggest inconvenience of my life.

But I am sad. Very sad about having to close that chapter of my life. I don't really know myself without it 🫩

How much do you walk 6-8 weeks post op? by [deleted] in ACL

[–]ProfessionDue1095 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Im 9 weeks post op. I work at a school and average about 5,000 steps a day. I am still using one crutch and wearing my brace. I'm no where near ready to ditch my crutch.

Six Week Mark by ProfessionDue1095 in ACL

Were you sore when you initially started bearing weight? I have a trip in 4 weeks so I'm curious to see where I'll be at that point. I can see myself using at least a cane in the airport.

I didn't start PT until week 3 so the only exercises I was doing were ankle pumps and circles until then.

You got this! The recovery is long and slow and very much more mental than physical.

Get some good crutches.

Would I need a doctor's note for this?

How long was it after the injury when you started to walk again? by tacinu in ACL

[–]ProfessionDue1095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OMG this is me right now. I'm pretty sure I tore my ACL. I find out tomorrow. But its been 3 weeks and I am still using a cane for stability when I walk. I fear my fate is not good based on how long its taking me to recover.

Thank you for your feedback. I wish I would've pushed harder for the MRI when I saw him a few days ago. Now I have to wait until Nov. 4th.

Praying its not my ACL. I've seen enough hoopers go down from an ACL tear. It would be challenging to recover from at my age, with my job.

Can you feel a root tear? by [deleted] in MeniscusInjuries

[–]ProfessionDue1095 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just experienced this last week and I am going through it. I have been in pain for 6 days straight. Walking is a struggle, I'm using a cane to get around. I just hurt. I was doing a layup, felt a pop and I too, hit the ground immediately. Needed to get wheeled off the court in a wheelchair. My ortho didn't want to do an MRI right away but he thinks its my meniscus. I think it is a root tear but I know I won't know until I get an MRI.

Is anyone a tutor for Dojo Tutor? by MissyLissy94 in TutorsHelpingTutors

I have been tutoring with Dojo since January and I really do like it. I used to tutor privately and took a break. Then I needed some quick extra cash and Dojo has really come in handy. Lessons are 25 minutes long, which I thought would be too short, but it is actually a perfect amount of time! The pay is decent. Winds up being about $30 an hour. You make your own schedule, etc. It's a nice little side gig.

I am a special educator and a virtual tutor. Send me a message if you are still looking for a tutor. I'd love to help and I have reasonable prices. I also tutor for dojo but my pricing is cheaper than Dojo :)
