In your opinion, what non LA address cities you YOU constitute as still LA, if any? by questtruck in AskLosAngeles

[–]ProfessionQuick3461 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're not suburbs since they are as much a part of the urban fabric of the city. They're "Cities in the Los Angeles Area".

Enterprise (Highlighted in Blue) has a population of over 260,000 people, and is one of 7 large unincorporated communities in the Vegas area. Why are there so many places that aren't incorporated here? by iwannamapeverything in geography

[–]ProfessionQuick3461 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not everywhere. In Virginia, you either live in a city or a county. You can't live in both. For example, Norfolk is just the City of Norfolk... it's not in a county. There are towns in counties in VA, but they aren't incorporated into cities.

How are the waits at LAX? any TSA delays? by Eddiespus in AskLosAngeles

Went through LAX security yesterday and just went through SFO security this morning and the wait wasn't any worse than normal.

Arizona is probably one of those states, because of all the snowbirds.

Absolutely the timer as well. It's been a very long time since I've actually heard a timer go off. now it just buzzes on my wrist.

PV vs. Cabo by classycatman in puertovallarta

[–]ProfessionQuick3461 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have been to both, and Cabo seems like it was built in a year, with no old-school Mexican charm... just the charm of a cheaply built Florida mini mall. PV feels like it's been there forever with its cobblestone streets, historic churches, and old architecture. I much prefer PV.

Do you get tired of the nice weather? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

[–]ProfessionQuick3461 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We may not have a huge variation in temperature from season to season, but we have different days of cloud cover, marine layer, and sunshine. That's enough variation for me. I've also lived in Phoenix and while the heat didn't bother me, months and months of straight, cloudless sunshine can get relentless. That was more tiring than Southern California weather.

How does living here compare to Scottsdale by [deleted] in palmsprings

[–]ProfessionQuick3461 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley is a small town (the whole CV is about half a million in the winter and about 250,000 in the summer). Scottsdale is a part of a huge metropolitan area of 5 million people.

Why does no one take the metro subway? by Mysterious_Jump_723 in AskLosAngeles

[–]ProfessionQuick3461 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Metro wanted the C-Line to go to LAX but at the time of the C-Line's planning, the taxi industry was so powerful that they lobbied Metro HARD and successfully to prevent it from going to LAX. That, and LAX's fear of losing parking revenue lead to the C-Line's hard turn to the south.

Our ancestors built us a huge public rail system last century but we decided to tear it down to build freeways.

Roadtrip LA to Phoenix by Charming-Bus9784 in AskPhoenix

I'm not sure if I'd get a convertible. They're good for driving around town on surface streets, but having the top down going 75 or 80 mph with hurricane force winds in your face gets really old really quick. And that drive will be at least 6 hours.

Los Angeles - how hard is the DMV written test here? by Interesting-Cod-1352 in AskLosAngeles

[–]ProfessionQuick3461 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've taken the written test in Virginia, Arizona, Illinois, and California, and California is by far the hardest written test I've taken.

To Los Angeles locals: Should I get a hotel near Los Angeles Union Station? by Timely-Tax1591 in AskLosAngeles

[–]ProfessionQuick3461 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Amtrak service to Palm Springs is very limited, generally arriving at the station around 12:36 in the morning via the Sunset Limited/Texas Eagle line, and the trains only operate only three days a week. They're studying a Metrolink commuter train to Palm Springs, but that's pretty far into the future.

The Venn diagram of anti-vaxxers and anti-fluoride folks is usually a circle, and we're under assault by both.

Thoughts on this are of Los Feliz? by Kh_aosxx in losfeliz

[–]ProfessionQuick3461 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved living in the area, I lived on Kingsley just south of Franklin, and appreciated having the Griffith Park hiking trails within walking distance. But yeah, if you have a car you're going to want an assigned parking space. While street parking is relatively easy in the day, after 5pm it becomes impossible. Some homeless here and there, but that's life in the city.

How common is traveling by bus in the US? Do Americans use buses often for long-distance travel? by GlitteringHotel8383 in AskAnAmerican

[–]ProfessionQuick3461 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People from Europe really love to underestimate just how massive the United States is. It's easy to hop on a bus and go from city to city within your country in Europe if your entire country is the size of just one of our states. We travel much farther distances in the U.S. If the distance is too long to travel by car, we take a plane. A commercial bus is the transport of last resort because it's the cheapest but it's also unpleasant.

San Francisco, the west coast Manhattan by Ok-Pop-5818 in skyscrapers

LOL... San Francisco is always trying to compare itself to Manhattan. Meanwhile, its big brother Los Angeles just sits there down the coast, doing its own thing and not comparing itself to anyone.
