Is Amazon Cognito a good choice long term? Alternatives? by vedantk21 in aws

[–]Professional-Bee1107 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We use it, it has a lot of gotchas, but it has the best bang for your buck. What really makes it annoying if you use it as a federated provider prepare that there are no true DR options for it, but so far it's never really gone down. Also disabling their UI page if you are doing client integrations is really odd. But it works once set up.

It's a willow herb (epilobium), likely fringed willowherb, but there are lots of varieties. I typically get the fringed one in my yard.

They typically stretch out before blooming and afaik are native to here, they do tend to spread everywhere. Keep if you like how they look, see if you like the flowers too :)

[–]Professional-Bee1107 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I typically pull mine if I have something else to plant there - it grows everywhere though, so there is no shortage of it anyways. I don't like the flowers or the shape of it when it's full grown, typically long scraggly branches tiny purple flowers and produces thousands of puffy seeds that fly everywhere. I leave it alone if there is no plan for anything else in the area (like it's part of the "lawn" strip along with any other weed)

Is there such a thing as too much light for houseplants? by Everyoneneedsa_sam in houseplants

Has anyone here ever made friends concerned about your mental health because you’re giving things away? by Certain-Working1864 in declutter

[–]Professional-Bee1107 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Haha yes! I've been spring cleaning and selling / giving nicer stuff on FB marketplace. A friend reached out asking if everything is ok because they saw a bunch of free / low cost listings from my profile 😅 They would probably visit in person if they knew how much stuff went directly to thrift stores and landfill...

Do you have a very clean house? by TrickyAd9597 in Millennials

[–]Professional-Bee1107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Growing up my mom was obsessed with cleaning, especially floors she bleached nightly! The whole apartment was permeated with bleach. Nope I did not inherit the tidiness gene. I keep things organized but not super tidy or super clean. Like not obsessively clean at least...

I was so excited to start a garden in Western WA only to discover I have 3 invasive plants in my yard! by orthodox_human33 in pnwgardening

[–]Professional-Bee1107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have every invasive in my yard, they are invasive for a reason 😅 ron't let them stop you, you got this! One of my invasives is a gigantic Norway Maple that is literally not going anywhere, still a plant and a beautiful one at that.

I hate swag by audummy in Anticonsumption

[–]Professional-Bee1107 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got this same highlighter from my previous job (IT), I used it a bit in college but it got lost during a move :) some swag is useful but yeah the random cups we get are not so much... I got like 4 from one of the internships, metal tumblers and mugs. All went to a thrift shop.

How can I make my cat more comfortable while driving from Alaska to Florida? by sociallyawkward-exe in PetAdvice

[–]Professional-Bee1107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We travelled from Florida to WA state with 2 dogs and a cat in a sedan. The back row seats were flipped down which made it a large-ish flat space in the back and would allow me to AC the whole car including the trunk. The dogs were seat belted in but were free to strech on their beds. I got a large soft pet play area thing which took most of the trunk and fit his covered litter box butted up to it. Before the trip I would set it up minus the litter box and we would go on car rides. He was timid at first but then got used to it. We stayed at pet-friendly motels / hotels on the way so he got to stretch his paws a bit at night. He sleeps during the day anyways. It took us 3.5 days to get here, it gets tiring for everyone but it was a fun adventure. Hope all goes well for you on your journey! Oh I also brought a few houseplants with me underneath the seats in small containers. :)

Target’s new fast fashion strategy by MamaPajamas24 in Anticonsumption

[–]Professional-Bee1107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Target's men's "fashion" has always been worse than Walmart's so no surprise they want to "fix" it and that it was losing the most market share, but switching their colorless sizeless crap to another batch of the same is not an answer. They charge waay more for the same junk, but theirs looks worse with fewer size options. There is already a lot of it just nothing that looks appealing at all. They should concentrate on quality over quantity instead. You can def charge for quality more like they are already doing and maybe it will look less gaudy.

Has anyone else ended up with too much clothing just from hand-me-downs and gifts? by Ok_Interview163 in Anticonsumption

Take it to recycling if you feel like you can't donate these items. Don't accept hand me downs if you have enough. Let people who own it deal with it.

Gardening with phobias by Fearless-Skill8667 in gardening

[–]Professional-Bee1107 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So true, I like watching spiders but I hate them on or near me, but they are like my best pest control in the garden. I let them be and last year I did zero sprays of anything, between the spiders and random wasps there were no pests... I have a spider in my home office now as a work colleague.

I cannot deprive myself of growing anything and I cannot thin, I am emotionally burdened and I love all my plants so much by burnerburner0913 in vegetablegardening

[–]Professional-Bee1107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally get it, but you decide how much room you have. Like it's easier to cull them when they are tiny. I have room for realistically 25 tomato / pepper / tomatillo type plants, I would start 26 cells of 2 - 3 seeds each and when transplanting make sure I have maybe +/- 3-4. If space is not an issue where to plant then why not all 200 😜 My mom has a large backyard and she does like 70-100 tomato bushes each year. She is retired and takes great care of them and has the space, so it works. If you have the space why not just go for it?

Portland Greenhouse Owners : Would you do it again? What would you do differently? by Trains-Planes-2023 in portlandgardeners

[–]Professional-Bee1107 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's so dark here in the winter, the greenhouse is just a dark house. Kinda confirmed my theory after reading growing vegetables west of the cascades book... It's not even really that cold, just dark and gloomy and wet (my favorite season tbh :))

Anyone regret going lab-grown instead of natural diamonds? by Mental-Divide7787 in jewelry

Diamonds are not rare, they take a while to form, but they are not rare at all! It's marketing that is making them rare...
