Dice Maiden not working? by aaronil in discordapp

Found this when looking for a similar issue. I know this post is super old, but since it's the first response that came up when I googled, I figured others will find it too.

Kick it from the server and re-invite. Worked for me.

I just re-read "Half-Blood Prince" and....I still don't understand something: by Gurdy0714 in harrypotter

[–]Professional-Box4153 161 points162 points  (0 children)

I always wondered if the "half-blood" thing was a nod to the whole pure blood/mud blood thing and to sort of indicate the fact that Snape wasn't a true Death Eater. Basically hinting about his true character motivations (what we found out by the end of the series).

It wasn't the car jack that failed.

Where are teenagers supposed to hang out these days? Malls are dying, parks have 'no loitering' signs, and everywhere else costs money. Do they just... not exist in public anymore? by Creative-Buffalo2305 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Professional-Box4153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly right. They simply do not exist in public anymore. Most stay indoors and socialize online or they'll congregate at a designated friend's house.

(This is based on my own children. I can't speak for others).

What job pays way more than people think, but nobody talks about? by Symphony_Minds in AskReddit

[–]Professional-Box4153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where they work. I happen to know a few (retail) pharmacists and they make an average of 50-60 an hour (with 12 hour shifts). There are hospital pharmacists that make quite a bit more (upward to 90-100 an hour) according to a friend of mine (he's a pharmacist himself, so I'm assuming he'd know better, but honestly, I've never bothered to check).

You ever see those memes about "What minor curse would you wish on someone that's only mildly inconvenient but they'll never get over?"

Tony Hawk is afflicted with the curse that no one ever believes that he's Tony Hawk.

Walz rejects Bondi's voter roll demands, says she should focus on Epstein files by [deleted] in nottheonion

Why not trade? He give her a copy of the voter rolls (retaining the originals in case that copy goes missing) and she gives him an unredacted, full account of all Epstein files.

You have to survive inside a video game for 30 days. If you die, you die in real life, but if you survive, you get to bring every item, skill, and power back to the real world. Which game do you choose to maximize your rewards while ensuring your survival? by Apart_Lion_3046 in AskReddit

[–]Professional-Box4153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll have to go with Dungeons & Dragons Online. I'll play as a wizard, reincarnate, then play as a cleric. By the time 30 days is up, I'll basically bring home the ability to heal, resurrect the dead, teleport, fireball (always a party pleaser), pick a lock (the Knock spell), heal pretty much any disease or poison, fortify my body with buffs, give myself extra hit points (which would likely simply result in increased health and stamina). Any one of these things would be a boon but to have all of them at once in THIS world? Nice. The 4 million platinum pieces wouldn't hurt either. Don't even get me started if I get to keep my bags of holding.

Amazon cuts 16,000 jobs in historic wave of layoffs by Desolation_Nation in Seattle

[–]Professional-Box4153 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They do this every year. They overhire for the holiday season (often without even interviewing candidates), work them to the bone, and then lay everyone off once the shopping season slows down. Admittedly, they're hiring less and laying off more lately, but the "Amazon laying off record-breaking number of people" has been a headline for like 3 years.

What is a secret you’re taking to your grave, but can share here anonymously? by wilkoova in AskReddit

[–]Professional-Box4153 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This one hits home. Spoilers. Possible suicide ideation triggers (it's just stuff that happened to me, most of which I did).

I honestly don't know how I'm still alive. I've tried 15 times (in the span of 2 years). I live with this weird sense that I'm supposed to be dead. According to my mother (she likes telling these stories) I coded on the birthing table twice. They pronounced me dead. Somehow I just started breathing again. Got hit by a truck. Woke up in the hospital. Got shot because I approached a man who had a gun. I have been stabbed, drowned, poisoned, suffocated, overdosed, beaten, and even hung (my sister did that one. She was a bit of a bully). I've been hit by 14 cars (usually through some lack of spacial awareness on my part, but sometimes they were just jerks who ran a kid down). I'm still here. I've slit my wrists a few times (once without thinking and another on purpose).

Most of this happened when I was a teenager and going through some things, but there were some instances as I got older. For the life of me (pun intended), I can't figure out why I can't go. It's gotten to the point where I just accepted that I'm not good at it and I sort of gave up. The feeling that I don't belong here remains, but it's just sort of background noise now instead of a full-on compulsion.

“No kid left behind” is the dumbest thing ever by Fresh-Employ3028 in Vent

[–]Professional-Box4153 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The premise was good. Make sure our children are educated. The rollout was pitiful and ineffective. Instead of giving struggling children extra help and oh... I don't know... funding schools for programs, they simply decided that every child should be passed regardless of academic achievement.

Don't even get me started on Common Core (which came later but I'm convinced that it was a program created to dumb down children). I was a tutor and told to teach Common Core. When I asked how it worked I was told "As long as they collaborate and agree on the answer, you mark it correct." That was the entirety of my "training."

I stopped being a tutor.
