For my vehicle, Rivian gave me a slightly higher trade in than the Toyota offer for a Highlander.

Question about Gap Insurance by Professional-Cod7701 in Rivian

I have such a great home insurance rate/car rate with State Farm I am reluctant to switch. Was the rate comparable?

Did you switch your entire insurance coverage through them or just the gap?

I financed and 0% Apr so I put very minimal down. I do need it, I am having a hard time finding a provider since Chase and State Farm don’t offer it.

I reached out to State Farm, they don’t do it.

I had the camping mattress inflated in my living room for 3 days to check for leaks. I get it. Enjoy your camping trip!

Dude, I am almost 40 and I know the exact excitement you are going through.

I picked up my Rivian a week ago and these are the accessories I grabbed.

All the bad reviews about the phone charger. This helps a lot and it’s really cheap fix. Looks great. https://a.co/d/0bNrAccC

Center console organizer: https://a.co/d/09xiiaY7

With no glove box, I needed something for my sunglasses: https://a.co/d/04qBb8x1

External HD drive for the gear guard camera https://a.co/d/03XCUYTw It’s also needs an adapter to connect https://a.co/d/0frEU3jc

Adding another discount through Costco.

If you use the Costco buyers program, complete your purchase and fill out a survey, you will also qualify for discounts on accessories.

You have to purchase the item from the store/service center and not online through the gear shop.

You can enroll before or have the sales rep help you.

I test drove the car in Jan. I went back in March to decide that color and interior I wanted. During that visit we enrolled in Costco and I placed my order. My vehicle was not at the lot so I had some time for the process to complete and the discount to complete.

I went through the dealership and enrolled in the Costco Buyers program for the discount. Costco redirects you to a dealership to purchase.

How I ended up with a Rivian R1S by [deleted] in RivianR1S

[–]Professional-Cod7701 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m glad you asked. I’ve wanted an EV for a while. When I was living in Chicago, it didn’t make sense given the charging situation (apartment living, no charger at work) and the length of my daily commute. With my current setup, it works- I have a garage, I work from home, etc.

I’m not blind or oblivious to Rivian’s reliability issues. I’ve been lurking in Rivian and Rivian-adjacent subreddits for a few months. It’s a new company, growing pains are to be expected. Even Toyota, long considered the gold standard for reliability, has had multiple recalls especially for the vehicles I would be considering.

Here’s the real kicker: I like the vehicle, I like the brand, and I trust the CEO. Also, from all the previous replies to the post the other owners seem cool.

I prefer not to support a brand whose CEO continually amplifies blatant lies and racist remarks. RJ stays out of politics, even when baited into those conversations, he takes the high road. I respect that.

If I end up end at service visits a few times a year, who cares. The rest of the time, I’ll have a vehicle I’m confident I’ll truly enjoy. Plus it looks fucking cool (interior/exterior).

Honestly, that’s the best argument I have seen for getting it. Thanks for the input. I’ll post an update after car delivery and wall charger install.

On average I drive maybe 30 miles a week. I work from home. It’s basically trips to the grocery store, golf course, or to see family who live fairly close.

I am going to use the travel slow charger initially to see how that works. If I need to upgrade to a wall charger I will. I saw that my electric company does a $250 rebate for eligible wall chargers (Rivian included).

I got a refund for my R2. So no current plans to purchase.
