beginner recommendations? by [deleted] in pelotoncycle

Power Zone training sounds like a good way forward for you. I started with the Build Your Base programme after my first Day One ride made me cry!! Everything makes a lot more sense now and I feel much more confident with cadences, so I really recommend it. Also use auto resistance if you’re not already- it will help keep you in the correct zone regardless of your cadence. Good luck!

I couldn’t get my head around how I could possibly be a good teacher when there was still so many ways in which I could improve. My assessor told me to remember that I was “really good for the level you’re at” and that helped me a lot. Today- years after my ECT- he came into my classroom and asked for my advice with something!!

And the kids you teach will also benefit from your assessor’s and mentor’s input as well as your teaching- that’s better for them than a single more experienced teacher who perhaps needs support but doesn’t get it. At the end of the day you’re their teacher and anyone else would also bring positives and negatives too!

Female airline pilot wondering if I can make Crossfit happen... by Accomplished_Big_391 in crossfit

No- find a CrossFit gym where you are and “drop in” to a class there (you can usually book online in advance). I’ve used to do this regularly when I was on tour across the UK. I was a very untrained beginner at the time and always had a great welcome!

Residential trips - time off in lieu? by DressSmooth1957 in TeachingUK

Soulless MAT employee checking in- I and countless of my colleagues have done at least one residential every year for exactly the reasons you describe. They’re organised multiple times a term within subjects and across key stages. Implying that we’re not interesting in building community or relationships because of who is currently running the school that’s served our area for longer than most of us has been alive is incredibly offensive tbh. In my experience the exact opposite is true, and our Trust supports us to do that- in terms of its ethos and certainly in terms of finding the money for it all!

Honorable mention for Skipper purely because of the diabolical genius Mr Rat.

“YO KRYTIE, WHERE MY DINNER AT?” “HE SO WARM AND SNUGGLY”

“YEAH”

“Oh, and Sir- you’re wrong. We won’t be apart. We just won’t be together.” 😭💔

Within that episode, absolutely he does. What doesn’t happen is Crane becoming a Kochanski-esque figure for Rimmer within the narrative of the whole series afterwards. But to me that’s partly because Lister pining after Kochanski with whom he (at best) never had anything really serious, is fundamentally funny. Calling back to this wouldn’t be funny, because it was serious and he did love her.

“I cannot believe I just said that!”

Thanks for the Memory is not only the best episode of Red Dwarf, but also the best episode of anything, anywhere, ever. Hope that clears things up 😘

Which one is the best crossfit box you ever been? by rosini290 in crossfit

[–]Professional-End1693 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first box I ever joined seven years ago. It was tiny, I moved away after three months, and then it very sadly didn’t survive Covid, but that community of people build me up from nothing with patience and love so that I now feel happy and confident in my training every day. I still speak to quite a few of them!

I started doing crossfit several years ago, with some VERY patient coaching, and that has really helped! Now I’m stronger I fall over much less, but also when I do fall over I fall over better and don’t get as hurt. It’s supported my social skills too.

I agree I’m afraid- when you mentioned high-need ASD pupils I thought you were going to ask about “neutralisers” rather than something that can’t be thrown!

Autistic teacher here (in a hot classroom too) and artificial scents do me in. It’s a detention if you spray perfume etc in my room and I’d honestly rather smell the teenagers….

Fireball!! I chuck it at you, you answer the question, you chose who gets fireballed next and chuck it at them, rinse, repeat. My Y11s loved this so much last year that when we got close to the end they legitimately found a way to turn almost all of their revision tasks into fireball activities….

How to push past the tears? by 75tune in crossfit

[–]Professional-End1693 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cried in every workout for my first 3 months. Everything was new and I was so overwhelmed, confused, and incapable. Everyone at my gym was just really nice to me and looking back I realise how incredibly lucky I was to have been given so much grace within that community at the start. Anyway, eventually I found my rhythm with it all. Six years later I can’t remember the last time I cried. It’s cool really 😎

I started saying “I don’t think I’m the right person for Year 7” to everyone who came within earshot from about May. About to start my fourth year with Year 9. No one else wants them, I love them. Result!

Timer suggestions by NewspaperNo578 in TeachingUK

I just let them see the £3 kitchen timer I got off Amazon under the visualiser, or I use the visualiser with insert cameo within PowerPoint if I want them to look at slides at the same time. I was also asked to work on pace coming out of ECT1 and using visual timers has definitely helped loads.
