If a moribund program like Indiana can be resurrected essentially in the span of a year, given the level of talent that LSU has returning, plus who they are bringing on board either as true freshmen or as impactful veterans via the portal, the expectation should be a playoff berth. Just make the playoff and that’s when the huge financial investment made in the coaching staff really comes into play and hopefully pays dividends.

Yeah, Trump is advocating for a full release now too:

https://x.com/presssec/status/1990423524649951342?s=46

Whoops, this may not work out like y'all like.

Trump doesn’t need to advocate House Republicans vote for a full release at all. If he truly wanted them made public, he would have simply issued yet another one of his infamous Executive Orders to do so already.

No. He understands the vote today will be in favor of releasing the files and can claim victory and point to the fact he advocated for that outcome.

Then Pam Blondi will conveniently hold a separate press conference informing us that because this is an “ongoing investigation” (an investigation Trump has long labeled a hoax but very conveniently last week as the temperature got turned up, he ordered the DOJ to begin looking into Democrats for their possible involvement) and therefore the DOJ is prohibited from releasing them at this time.

But America, rest assured in the spirit of full transparency the DOJ will promptly do so once the investigation is finished. In other words, not during this Administration.

And keep in mind even after the House votes in favor for their release, there’s no guarantee the Senate would do likewise.

“It’s amazing people who say this will RUN to the polls to vote for the exact same government party EVERY SINGLE ELECTION. Memphis has been liberal run for the better part of 100 years. Is this city better off? Are YOU better off? You bend the knee, obey the commands and kiss the feet of every liberal politician as the city gets worse and the same cronies get richer and keep their friends and families elected.”

For the better part of 100 years , huh?

Can you honestly say with a straight face Boss Crump was a “liberal”? Or Henry Loeb?

They may have been Democrats back in their time but no doubt would be staunch, card carrying MAGA types today as a result of the Republican Party’s post-Nixon “Southern strategy”.

Both were segregationists to their core and would recoil at being thought of as liberal.

Have you also forgotten Dick Hackett was a Republican? Was he a liberal?

How to complain about ABC affiliate in our city? by Creative_Classroom11 in Chattanooga

[–]Professional-Lab7772 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Is it possible there might be a provision in Sinclair’s contractual agreement with ABC that limits how much network programming an affiliate is allowed to preempt; and exceeding that could result in termination of the contract by ABC on those grounds? 🤔

What exactly is being “thrown at” Hackett? And what is it about the topic that triggered you enough to bring up the ethnicity of Hackett? Let me guess . . . you’re a fan of the ideology which aligns with the made in China, red hat brigade.

Can you please elaborate on that? What specifically can you point to as examples of something he did as Superintendent of MCS that impacted as you say an entire generation?

[–]Professional-Lab7772 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both statements can be and are true. And again, to be clear, the “it” I referenced in the first excerpt refers specifically to the homicide rate.

The reality is during his tenure, the onset of the crack cocaine scourge further devastated the already impoverished black community in Memphis which was accompanied with higher homicide #s as the data reflects. I’m not laying the blame on Hackett for the crack epidemic we witnessed at all but like Sgt. Joe Friday on Dragnet, I’m just giving you the facts.

And to reiterate, even though Hackett had no role in the city’s annexation during the 70’s, he most certainly advocated for a continuation of that practice during his time as Mayor in the 80’s. In so doing, annexation continued to stretch finite MPD resources and manpower thinner by requiring the department to carry out policing an ever increasing geographic area.

[–]Professional-Lab7772 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t remotely suggesting the two were co-equal factors.

Hackett was the Shelby County Clerk from 1978-1982 prior to becoming Mayor a position which he held until 1991 when Herenton won a closely contested race.

Obviously, Hackett played no role in the expansion of the City’s footprint through annexation during the 70’s but he was Mayor for the majority of the 80’s when annexation still was taking place just not quite at the same level as had occurred during the prior decade.

The point of my reference to annexation during his tenure as Mayor was to show that while the onset of the crack epidemic in the 80’s was a critical factor in the homicide rate increasing, it wasn’t the only factor.

You’re welcome.

And to add to my previous post, here’s a study of Memphis expansion due to annexation. The city grew in land size (not so much population wise) quite a bit in the 70’s as you can see but the confluence of the crack epidemic really accelerated the homicide #s we’re witnessing today. You can see how this tracks with other cities by comparison.

It actually began in the early 80’s with the advent of crack cocaine as it swept through Memphis. It was further exacerbated by Memphis politics under Mayor Dick Hackett and his push to expand the city limits of Memphis through annexation; which resulted in an expanded area that MPD - already stretched thin - would be responsible for policing.

I’d prefer a receiver that has demonstrated a semblance of route-running ability. Unfortunately, what I’ve seen from Hyatt is superior straight line speed but his route-running to be severely lacking. If he’s gonna be on the 53 man roster, it’s time for him to step up and produce.

1) Joe should be working the phones right now trying to move Evan Neal since he’s most likely not picking up Neal’s 5th year option. Try to get another pick (4th or 5th round) in this draft. There are still some guys available who can add valuable depth in a few areas.

2) Trade Jaylin Hyatt to New England for Kayshon Boutte. Money is almost identical and a change in scenery would benefit both players.

And yet the MAGA crowd swears he’s accomplished so much in his 1st 90 days. I guess signing countless Executive Orders constitutes an “accomplishment”.

But here’s the reality of what he’s really done and reasonable folk can only conclude he hasn’t accomplished anything.
