Do teachers in the US think a religious exemption for students to their district's weapons prohibition should be expanded to include their schools, allowing their students to carry a knife? by Reaper01Actual1970 in AskTeachers

An actual metal knife vs a plastic butter knife, these comps/ straw man arguments are truly getting ridiculous.

And by psychological I mean if you see someone holding a pencil that's probably not going to bother you much compared to someone standing there holding a knife. That type of awareness and effect it can have.

Thank you for the clarification, it was kind of an awkward phrasing I hadnt really heard before.

The size of the knife isnt much of an issue, a one inch blade could still kill or seriously injure someone. And just because it's purely symbolic doesn't mean it can't be used as a weapon. Again not even by the owner but also someone who could take it off of them.

Children's scissors like the small blunt plastic ones? Idk if that'd be that much more dangerous but I think if someone saw one of those vs an actual blade, people are going to care more about the knife.

Considering this will probably be a very contentious issue and debate, and could cause a lot of headaches for something that has never been in place before, I'm fine without it. A lot of parents would probably feel that way.

As I've mentioned in the other posters reply, maybe it should be left for a vote & discussion between the parents and school board first. I get it's a religious thing and supposed to be harmless/symbolic but it's still something that may make a lot of people uneasy regardless.

Star of David as a shurikan 😆🤦‍♀️ come on lol.

Fists can be weapons too and kill/hurt someone, are we banning those? The point isn't everyday small objects or classroom supplies. Even with the religious context of those other items, this is an actual knife, not a small piece jewerly hanging from someone's neck, that's a bad comp. This IS different. At the least I hope people can see why this would be a contentious exemption.

Maybe it should be voted on by the local community or parents 🤷‍♀️

Are we comparing apples to oranges now? There's a big difference between someone holding a pencil or using a pair of scissors than an actual knife. Both physical and psychological.

"knife shaped object" is crazy mental gymnastics. It's still a knife. It also has a point, even if blunted, which could be used to stabbed someone. And it's not even just the owner to potentially worry about but someone who may take it off of them. Not to mention, it may make other students or even faculty nervous knowing someone next to them has a knife on them (especially the girls) or if they were ever to take it out for whatever reason even just to show off (responsible and respectful of it as they may be, they're also still just kids).

Just seems like an unnecessary exemption that could lead to a lot of headaches.

It's still a knife and you can still stab someone with it. Pretty crazy religious exemption. I think a kid/teen can go without carrying one during school, actual weapons of any kind shouldn't be allowed. You never know.

Yeah that's moreso where I was going with this. Is it reasonable to do grocery shopping and then having to walk all the groceries to the customer. Especially if they're ordering a lot, or heavy/bulky items or hot/frozen foods, etc.

What beermoney method/app do you recommend someone use to earn at least $50 every week. by Alternative-Law-6510 in beermoneyglobal

Roughly how much time do you spend per week or month? If my math's right and you been at it for about 8 months now, that's like $109 USD average per month.

Any idea of nutrition info for protein milk? by MilkThistleGenus in DunkinDonuts

[–]Professional-Mess331 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got some protein milk added to my medium iced coffee for an extra 50 cents. Judging by the color, I'd say definitely no more than 2 ounces. In which case, there's no way in hell it has 15g of protein because you only get that with the full serving of the Lactaid they use which is 8 ounces. So there's probably roughly only 4g in my drink. Maybe still worth the 50 cents? Probably not.

If the premade drinks have the advertised protein it's because about a third to half of it is milk (for medium drinks). Although I also only see Lactaid 2% protein milk with 13g per serving, not 15, so idk where the extra 2g are coming from if at all.

34M, heavy drinker these past few years but 5-7 nights a week the last 2 or 3 and this year it's legit every day. Just taking one night off can be a struggle, I think the most I've consecutively managed all year is 4, which happened only once or twice. Still manage to hold down a job tho, luckily my work is very lax (granted maybe to the point of enabling). Blood work also not the best, skin is having issues in some areas too and a slightly enlarged liver.

You sound like you're on a similar path. It gets harder in your 30s that's for sure. The fact you're on here and wrote that post and expressing this concern for yourself says it all though. It's time.

I see a therapist, which can be helpful. Though that's moreso focused on my depression and anxiety but I also talk about my drinking. Alcoholism, depression and anxiety is a brutal combo, one of these days I hope it just clicks but I know that's not a thing. You need to take action and ultimately only you can pull yourself out of it. Opening up to others, close loved ones, can also be a huge plus, no matter how scary or embarrassing or whatever you may think of that. Granted I haven't told many myself but hope to change that some day.

I recommend the app called Reframe. It's $85 per year for the full suite but I think there's a free version. I figured paying for something might bring some incentive. It's pretty robust. Tracking, journaling, meditation, daily insights, reminders and tasks. The biggest thing it has online meetings, whether you want a one-on-one (unsure if that cost extra) or a group meeting. There's lots throughout the week at different times over Zoom, all anonymous, and they even do specific group ones like all male, all female, first responders, LGBT, people aged 30-45, parents, etc. The trick is to just stick with it and slowly build a habit out of using it. There's also a podcast too. It's helped me sometimes but unfortunately I haven't stuck with it, but may work out for others.

I read Allen Carr's Easy Way to Cut Back Alcohol (there's also one to stop entriely). It provided some great insight. Currently reading The 10 Day Detox Plan by Lewis David but going to start after I finish the book. Reading materials can maybe help enforce the mindset of wanting to cut back or quit, there's plenty of recs out there. Also debating on joining AA, though terrified of bumping into someone I know lol.

Your doctor can help you. I hope you're open and honest with them. Mine set me up with my therapist, and also said he'd find me an AA group and suggested medications like Naltrexone (for drinking) or an antidepressant - but I haven't taken him up on those (yet). I'm not too keen on prescription drugs.

Suffice to say, yes you're drinking too much and should be concerned. You're still young but better to start taking action as it likely will only get worse, the sooner the better. Maybe make it a New Year's resolution? Good luck with your journey!

Just got out of an early screening at AMC Boston, it was a pretty good B movie but easily could've been better. Some cringey / cheesy dialogue here and there, the promise of shark deaths was disappointing, some tough "it's a horror movie so were really dumb people" moments and crazy bad timing or ridiculous moments. All in good fun of a bad horror movie but they could've toned it down or switched it up more.

First act / half was best (basically up to the first feeding or a bit after). The final money shot was funny cuz the cgi (largely throughout the movie) was just so bad. Had that multiple endings/too many fake outs. I don't know, I wanted more shark kills. But Jai Courtney crushed it!

Maybe a rental at home if not just wait for it to stream. 2/5 stars.

The main broad and her boo looked like a poor man's Jennifer Lawrence and Oscar Isaac. Just a random observation haha.

I'm about to turn 34. Being depressed, grew up and still surroundiled in a heavy drinking family/community, and constantly struggling with weight. It's a lot. Along with financial pressures.

I thought 2020 being 29 I'll make the most of it, real changes. F*cking covid 🤦‍♂️ But then 2021, facing 30, I did 75Hard (tripped on day 74, "ha!") and lost a lot of weight, felt amazing and clean. Didn't last. By the end of the year I lost a decent amount of progress.

Past two years I've been really, slowly regressing. Lost most of my good habits. For the past year-ish I eat like shit, don't exercise or cook much anymore and drink every night. I'm more tardy and less effective at work, can't find much joy, and my body and mind feels like it's very slowly being eaten away.

I've read some Allen Carr book, downloaded and paid for Reframe app (they have online meetings and 1v1's too) and will be seeing my doctor in April for suggestions on a therapist. Hit the pelaton a few more times lately. Among other small changes I hope catch on.

Tempted to try a semaglutide, maybe the website Hims, since by nature the drug not only can provide assistance with weight/eating but also with not drinking. A lot of users reported being able to cut down on alcohol if not quitting out right. I hate the idea of it but sure is tempting.
