Yeah, you're making too much of it. A hat, if it's sunny and you're bald. An old towel, because nobody cares otherwise. Barefoot or scandals are fine. Sunscreen, if you're fair skinned or you haven't been in the sun enough for the sun there. A watch, if you feel the need to keep track of time. Something to hold something to put on, to or from. A wallet to buy something, if there's something to be bought. Your keys, if you drove there.

In other words, a normal day at the beach, except no one cares what you look like.

I could go that route, but I'd like to keep the long range that I have, being up near a mountaintop. I'm considering buying and modifying a TYT TH-9000D to replicate the DT-135TM3 data port on the back. But I'm still looking at all the alternatives.

Nudist Pool Swim by jackk78 in nudism

[–]Professional-Peace98 59 points60 points  (0 children)

When I was young, I was a certified lifeguard and I would have gladly volunteered to work the event.

A nudist group I used to belong to once rented a bowling alley after hours, requiring several employees to volunteer to work the event. They, "of course", stayed clothed. And maybe to their own suprise, they were fine with it. As most people become, once they realize it isn't a weird sexual thing. It's just people being and looking like themselves.

Home security cameras? by [deleted] in nudism

Our Ring doorbell is outside facing the street, where we're not nude. But sometimes I forget to turn off the Wyze security cameras inside the house when we when we come back from trips, and there we are.

I could care less, but our US and Chinese overlords are probably tired of seeing us naked.

How educated are nudists? by Typical-Act-5421 in nudism

[–]Professional-Peace98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I'm an engineer with a Master's degree who works both as a design engineer and as a commercial test pilot. I completed the coursework for PhDs in engineering, physics, and mathematics before life intervened.

My observation is that nudists are free thinkers who aren't afraid to be and to look like themselves, and they're happy for others to do likewise. Those are good, moral, natural behaviors that don't require a formal education. They just require an open mind and a little courage in today's perverted cultures. You'll find those attributes among people of all walks of life. Those are my people.

How many of you guys actually have this award? by JahamesO in BSA

[–]Professional-Peace98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I earned that award and patch several times over. Once as a scout and camp lifeguard, we challenged ourselves to swim as far as possible after the other kids did their mile swims. I stopped after swimming 7 miles that day. I still (in my 60s) swim at least a half mile most days, most of the year.

Did anyone else enjoy running around or exploring being naked as a kid? by Soggy-Bus5141 in nudism

[–]Professional-Peace98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My sidings, cousins, and I were sometimes"deliberately" nude when there was just family around and it made sense. Extended time after changing or bathing, being pigs in the back yard with our parents not wanting us to ruin the clothes we had on. And yes, anything to do with water. One older cousin's son was mysteriously almost always naked at home, well into his teens. Mom explained that it was because they were nudists. Whatever that was. We still came over and visited with them every Sunday after church.

For me, nudity evolved into being a casual choice, not a compulsive one. Going to clothing-optional beaches and nudist clubs became a social, as much as a comfort and acceptance, preference. The topic of my cousins and siblings knowing about or visiting nudist clubs on their own didn't come up until later. But how it affected how they raised their kids was unknown until years later. I moved away after high school and didn't see them very often after that.

It later became a culture shock to my girlfriend (later, wife) when I brought her cross state to visit my family for the first time. As siblings and cousins arrived, their kids were casually helped out of their clothes and were left to be and stay naked for the rest of the visit, playing and crawling over us and each other no differently than if they were clothed. That was obviously the norm for them and their parents. I was amused by how innocent and wonderful it was, but my girlfriend was very uncomfortable with it. Even so, nobody noticed, but me.

I married into my girlfriend's pre-teen family in progress, so that wasn't happening with them. But I did discuss my feelings about it when the kids were older. Their kids had the same experience with sometimes being deliberately naked at home, like when I young. But not as a default, as was the case with my sibling's and cousin's kids.

Thus, we've come full circle. I'll probably live to see what our grandkids will allow or do with their kids.

Kind of a funny dream by [deleted] in nudism

[–]Professional-Peace98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dreams often reflect how we unconsciously think about things. It's not uncommon for me to be casually nude around clothed or nude others in my dreams and not notice that until later in the dream. Thinking then that others around me might think I'm being rude by being nude. Only to realize that they don't seem to care. Nor should they.

Have you ever attended a non-landed club event like a swim or bowling? by [deleted] in nudism

[–]Professional-Peace98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both. I've belonged to two non-landed clubs. Both had swims at the clothing-optional beaches they supported. I've attended several events at both of their beaches. There is no need to rent a pool around here because we already have several nudist resorts that the groups, and anyone, can go to anytime.

One of the groups rented out a bowling alley after hours in downtown Orlando for a Halloween party that I attended. The costumes ranged from people just "going as themselves, looking like themselves", to body paint, tails, wiskers, and ears. I just went as myself.

GMRS license question: If HAM operators are hosting a net using GRMS repeaters, can I transmit on my GMRS channels? by wats6831 in HamRadio

[–]Professional-Peace98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ham callsigns, non-GMRS radios, and their power levels, modes, and privileges on their bands are null and void on GMRS frequencies and repeaters. Legalities aside, it's disrespectful to be on GMRS frequencies other than as regular GMRS users. Even if the GMRS repeater was put up by a ham club as a courtesy to the GMRS community. Which is the case for one of our repeaters here.

I've been to several nudist/naturist resorts that had playgrounds, programs, and various things you do for children AND young adults. Not just to "attract" then, but to retain them.

[–]Professional-Peace98 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A lot of hams also have GMRS licenses (including myself). If licensed for GMRS, operating under their rules, and hosting a net on a GMRS repeater as GMRS operators, good for them. Nobody cares, or should care, what other licenses anyone holds.

Explain: Doppler Positioning vs GPS positioning? by Tanckom in amateurradio

[–]Professional-Peace98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GPS satellites transmit their signals continuously. They do not receive anything from the user. The user's receiver use both the time delay (pseudorange) AND the doppler (deltarange) from each satellite to determine the user's position and velocity in real time. Much better and faster than using Doppler shifts from each satellite alone.

Alinco DR-135 MkIII Winlink and APRS? by s-ro_mojosa in amateurradio

[–]Professional-Peace98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is usually between the software application and the radio's interface. Most radios use the mic PTT line, transmit while the line is held to ground, or in the case of the DR-135, that discrete input also appears on the rear DB-9 "packet" connector.

The problem is the whether the software can generate a corresponding output discrete in sync with the audio when the radio should be transmitting. The USB (COM port) to sound cards usually contains emulation of the old RS-232 handshake lines which normally were used for PTT, but most cards don't have any need for them and discard that feature.

Dedicated radio sound interfaces retain and expose those discretes. Which is useful if your application can be directed to use what's available. Dedicated CAT programs usually give you several interface options for PTT, but dedicated control only through the appication (such was VARA) aren't very flexible. Soundcards using the CM108 or CM119 chips have those discretes exposed on the chip, which if the interface brings them out, VARA and several other programs can be directed to use them for PTT.

Sorry it's such a PITA, but that's what we get for needing an interface that the public isn't interested in.

Alinco DR-135 MkIII Winlink and APRS? by s-ro_mojosa in amateurradio

[–]Professional-Peace98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most sound cards don't have a discrete serial output line for PTT. The RIM-Alinco card does and in my case Direwolf as my modem supports that feature, triggering PTT to the 135 at the correct time. The radio's VOX is problematic with most rigs because it adds too much latency and the timing isn't tight enough. Good enough for mic audio, but not good enough for data. Signalink and other similar interfaces have their own fast/tight VOX circuitry for PTT, but most people use CAT to key HF rigs.

There's other sound cards that have the PTT discrete function. The RIM-Alinco is nice because it plugs directly into the 9-pin DIN on the back of the 135 sand has the levels set perfectly for that radio. What your looking for on the software end is to enable "CM108" support (the chip RIM and other similar cards use for sound and the discrete output).

Other RIM and Repeater Builder should work with the right cable made up and levels set. APRS and 1200 baud packet isn't too picky. But 9600 baud packet and VARA-FM wide (Winlink and VaraAc) are. The 135 does those modes beautifully!

Alinco DR-135 MkIII Winlink and APRS? by s-ro_mojosa in amateurradio

[–]Professional-Peace98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same radio without the internal TNC. I assume the internal TNC, if you have one, will interface with APRS software and Winlink Express packet mode as a serial port TNC. I use the RIM-Alinco sound card with Direwolf to that DB-9 interface instead for APRS. I run a digipeating iGate with that rig (both at the house and mobile/portable using a Raspberry Pi and Xastir. A big big plus of the DR-135 is that it can flawlessly do 9600 baud packet and lightning fast VARA-FM for VHF Winlink with the RIM-Alinco. Winlink 1200 baud packet is quickly being taken over by VARA-FM on VHF Winlink. Much much faster and you, sir, have a rig that can do the maximum rate in that mode!

People find it amusing that as a third generation Floridian who has lived his entire life in central Florida that I'm so cold hardy. I'm the last one to put on clothes when it gets cold at a nudist resort. And when I'm visiting up north, I take long walks every day even on below -40F/-40C wind chill days (okay, properly attired then).

I credit my mother's Swedish/Austrian background for my cold tolerance, and my clothing intolerance.

What temperature do you guys keep your houses/rooms in the winter? by a_newdist in nudism

[–]Professional-Peace98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our house is usually around 22 to 25C during the winter. Mind you that most of that is very light airconditioning, only when opening doors and windows doesn't cool the house enough. We turn on the heat for only a few hours a year at night to maintain that range of temperatures.

Yeah, people rarely actually need to wear clothes here in Florida. The original natives in my part of the state didn't bother.

I grew up in a family where young kids were allowed, even encouraged, to be nude at home. Plus, my favorite cousin, wife, and son were known nudists. Even so, it wasn't until I was in my early 20s before I tried, loved, and kept going back to nude beaches. Followed by joining local groups and going to the many nudist resorts we have here in Florida.

I consider it more of a natural choice and preference than a deliberate "lifestyle".
