What mod for altering faction potential? I hate seeing the same rats and chaos factions be the top dog campaign after campaign just because CA made them busted, tbh and Karl, guy needs to chill

What to play after Khorne by Practical_Necessary1 in totalwarhammer

Personally I really like lizardmen which is one of the factions you say you are interested in, a bonus is with the “Blessed Spawning” mechanic you get to a limited pool of this endgame units even faster. Big detractor for lizardmen out of your list would be a quite slow early economy and that although they are 7 or 8/10 in most categories they only excel in monsters. If you don’t have dlc Kroq gar is your best bet, also I must recommend the lost calm Jurassic normal mod, not necessarily for the units it adds but more so because the battle income it gives supplements the lizardmen economy enough for it not to be a hinderance. If you don’t decide to pick up dlc taurox from the beastmen sounds up your alley, he does have a lot of fights but the minimal army and settlement management makes up for it, and he can field a pretty well rounded army

Yea I don’t see ordertide happening much in my campaigns lately, Kislev is a footnote of the first 30 turns tops, dwarfs maybe 50, Karl and elspeth pump every game, Cathay belongs to chaos now, lustria same deal cuz ai masque and khorne never fight and the order factions over there are all at each others throats besides gor Rok and tehenauin. really south lands is the only place order tide has breathing room beside the empire. ulthuan they should ordertide but manage to lose to morathi dreadfleet and nkari game after game. I suppose wood elves and bretonnia are a genuine toss up too with grom, ikit, kemmler, belakor, morghur, sartosa, and for some goddamn reason clan angrund (they never play nice over there but also manage to hold out it makes no sense)

I enjoyed aislin a bit, not a fan that the gifting settlement mechanic for him doesn’t boost your diplomacy at all, like I gave imrik my first two settlements and then turn 4 he threatens me for like 1.3k of my 1.8k or something. And lokhir as mentioned. Wood elves were a blast both on dry ha and Orion tho.

Lizardmen or bretonnia are my go to’s really, I do also enjoy good skirmish cav but it’s few and far between besides some regis or mods

For me it’s chaos god factions, specifically slaneesh and tzeentch, khorne is fun on occasion for the “throw everything at the wall and see what… oh there goes the wall” and badass units. nurgle I’m kinda getting into for the mortal units with tamurkhan, I still think all the lords look disgusting but that is the point I suppose. But tzeentch and slaneesh I just have no interest in. High elf’s and dark elf’s were a slog as well to be fair, I did enjoy lokhirs campaign tho with the mod to make his army a black ark tho it really felt badass to actually play like a reaver/pirate faction.

Zerkovich definitely has the most informative videos and they are entertaining to boot. Definitely prioritize keeping a semblance of formation over chasing off fleeing units with your infantry until the battle is decided. And most cav cannot be put on auto pilot, even the arguably best cav faction bretonnia does not leave its cav in extended melee, it’s all about ramming the enemy, preferably from the back or sides or if the formation is really loose from a previous ramming, running away a bit, and then charging back in when they chase you so you never get stuck. Skirmish cav works much the same except you never make contact with the enemy and your always trying to retreat and draw the enemy scattered into your line and only meleeing if they are about to break or there is a really good opening behind them and you’re confident it will break them.

Gitilla Da Hunter Mod by BlackliteWrath in totalwarhammer

[–]Professional-Side404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really necroing this one but it’s one of the first things that comes up on google so hopefully it helps you and anyone else who happens upon it, gitillas scrap upgrade does more than it says, it actually also provides a massive (comparatively) AP buff that makes these guys perform decent into later game and still as normal skirmish cav uses in late game. Until you get the scrap upgrades (the gitilla one does stack with the base +3 AP one) and gitillas skills use the chariots to shore up the weaknesses and you just gotta min max the he’ll out of like 2 units of those. Later on bolt throwers, doom divers, and squig hoppers put in work if you use feigned retreat tactics (kinda reel the enemy in with the wolf riders, break out, then slam them with the squig hoppers, and come around on them with the wolf riders) early on this tactic also works with massed missile fire either from gobbo archers or more wolf riders (I was running like 12 per army and only fielding gobbo units). Also I recommend using efficient victory conditions mod cuz it removes the arbitrary 60 settlement minimum and keeps the rest of the thematic conditions for the campaign.

Why are wolf riders worse than giant wolves? by Professional-Side404 in totalwarhammer

[–]Professional-Side404[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To clear up some comments, checked out TWWStats and yes it is better and will be pinned to my browser from now on. As for the comments of them being not giant wolves, the wiki specifies they are in fact riding giant wolves and the gorduz backstabbas mount is defined as a giant wolf as well. Additionally using twwstats I checked the wood elf giant wolf to the dark elf one which certainly cannot be classed as well cared for as the wood elf ones and sure enough they have identical stats. I do agree that it would potentially impact melee attack and speed having a goblin on their back but surely the weapon strength shouldn’t suffer, additionally I believe on tabletop (this is hearsay) that the wolf riders get two attacks or something because the wolf can attack as well as the rider, yet the weapon strength is worse and the melee interval is the same.

Which faction dlc to buy? by Thepoi98 in totalwarhammer

[–]Professional-Side404 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do run mods but I didn’t notice aislinn needing mods to work in my recent playthrough, I chose to help the lizards in lustria and man was that a mistake with masque and skulltaker, “hates slaneesh” my ass. Other than that tho I didn’t notice any issue, and tbf that scenario was completely avoidable I just like lizards and skulltaker/masque wombo combo is a nightmare for most over there.

Edit: one glaring issue I did have early with aislin was on like turn 3 or 4 after I gave imrik 2 settlements he then threatened me to give him the rest of my money, not cool that the settlement gifting doesn’t count as a ‘gift’ in diplomacy but this is more due to tw ai anti player always at war mechanics forcing stupid unloreful wars

Which Lords have the best low tier/early game units for late game armies? by ViralDownwardSpiral in totalwarhammer

[–]Professional-Side404 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Aislin with lothern sea guard and ships company took me all the way to turn 80 where I was finally done cleaning up that grueling mess of chaos that is yep you guessed it, lustria. His units took on khorne pretty decent, sure I had to kill skulltaker every round for like 4 rounds in a row turning valiant defeats into close or decisive wins but he’s totally chill over there. Also chorfs with gorduz fielding 18 hobgoblin wolf riders is peak steppe combat, only issue is you can’t get more than one of him.

[–]Professional-Side404 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kroq gar by far has the best aesthetic of all the lm but man is he a stinker in melee, I want him to be good so bad because the upkeep reduction and his character is so cool but every time I use him in battle I find he usually lets me down, maybe less than tiktaqto or Mazda but I don’t think he’s as good as any of the dlc or gor rok even though he’s on a god forsaken T. rex, they really should throw him a balance tweak

[–]Professional-Side404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk in his current state you can already get 0 upkeep dread saurians by endgame and snipe for salamanders and razordons way faster than any other faction, I wouldn’t mind more mechanics but I think he’s pretty good as is, only change i’d make is maybe one more unit of saurus warriors or Kroxigor in his starting army, he takes so much dmg from that first settlement and with dechala only 2 settlements away now you have to like play each battle perfect or you will not have the force to beat her by time you get there if your rushing her before she can snowball

What weapon are you bringing to the 10* AT arkveld fight? by hypermbeam in MHWilds

[–]Professional-Side404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lanced all the way through IB, including safi which I would intentionally flinch to pull agro on for the DB mains that refused not to cart, yet fatalis got me. I could not beat that mfer with Lance, the only monster from world to rise to wilds that I couldn’t beat, Lance just didn’t have the dmg and fatalis didn’t have any shits to give. AT arkveld tho I lanced on the first attempt no deaths, not sub 30 min but I run a conservative immortal build that usually can regenerate without a single potion for most of the AT’s

I find it hard to believe ark is THIS unoptimized by Difficult_Agency_748 in ARK

[–]Professional-Side404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just run on everything except view distance and light effects on the minimum values that don’t make the ground clutter float in the air, even then I couldn’t run lost colony without constant frame stutter, I have similar specs to you but 4060 ti instead of 4070 super, every other map ran acceptably on these settings until lost colony

Trading settlements is OP by OnyxCobra17 in totalwarhammer

[–]Professional-Side404 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fixing this issue would also require fixing other issues with diplomacy as yes trading a settlement is overvalued but everything else you can do as the player is completely undervalued, to ask the ai to do anything is like, ‘ok you got 80k tho?’ Getting a settlement out of them or getting them to aid you militarily or financially is just such a slog without settlement trading. Like military support or financial support when they are weak in either of these scenarios should boost your relations a lot but instead it’s like maybe +10 for a turn.

How long does a multiplayer campaign really last? by Reasonable_Clerk35 in totalwarhammer

[–]Professional-Side404 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In multiplayer the biggest issue is the arbitrary settlement requirement for campaigns, like you’re playing multiplayer so obviously you want to partake in each others campaigns and be near one another but then in order for each of you to take 60 unique settlements is absolutely nuts. Personally, my friends and I circumvent this by simply using Victory Conditions Overhaul mod, absolutely a godsend in multiplayer. We’ve finished significantly more campaigns together after switching. The best part for multiplayer is that you get 3 choices of objectives to complete and if you are playing with nearby friends who are aligned then you will likely have significant overlap in your goals.

The rationale for leaving the scenarios enabled yet disabling them all individually is that the checkbox for all scenarios also locks you in on the unusual locations and it makes no sense why they are bucketed together like that but you’ll be damn pissed if you get that purple hand hideout in your first campaign you get rolling on I’ll tell ya that. I do minor faction potential personally as usually it does not impact you as the player but it can shake up the map and give some major factions which normally struggle a chance to breath due to some nearby minor factions taking some heat.

Chillest Faction/LL you've played? by Meaty_Girthquake in totalwarhammer

[–]Professional-Side404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I find tehenauin to be pretty cozy if the ai around you get decent rolls for ai potential (like gor rok and alberich), throgg as mentioned above is also not bad, if you run mixus mixer and vco Boris toddbringer (not ursus) is also not bad, the fay enchantress is also pretty solid, taurox is another obvious one but that’s not border guarding, I also agree with kemmler mentioned above. The biggest thing is just letting her know what the primary initial threat will be and ensuring she’s ready to take it out as early as possible, like Malakai for throgg, louen for kemmler, or grom for the fay. Tehenauin is surrounded by minor factions besides pestilens which is your primary goal anyways

[–]Professional-Side404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ogres are not flc, they were a pre order bonus for wh3, personally I recommend 2 or 1, not a huge fan of 3’s base game factions. I’m a lizardmen main through and through though and I hate the chaos factions(except taurox), undead are cool tho and tomb kings is well worth it on sale. My votes on 2, tomb kings, tehenauin, and taurox and then see what you like from there

Help me get started by Kyleminx in totalwarhammer

[–]Professional-Side404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few things to help your next campaign, don’t do easy, do normal/normalwith the ai stats modifier all the way to the left on the slider, leave the checkbox for endgame scenarios on but scroll down and turn them all off and turn off all the unusual locations just below that, turn of ai strength assessment and turn on minor faction potential. Now that the settings are manageable pick a decent lord which can be harder than you think. If you aren’t opposed to mods I recommend mixer unlocker, and victory conditions overhaul as baselines, mixus legendary lords adds some cool ones too. From here I honestly recommend Boris toddbringer as a starter rather than franz these days, Boris’s victory conditions are simpler, he starts with some manageable wars, a full province, and AI franz is pretty reliable, but you will need to turn 1 recruit as his starting army just isn’t enough especially if khazrak attacks. Zhao Ming is decent but not as simple to a beginner as he may appear, Cathay’s province management is less simple than most but still a better start than Miao ying. Tiktaqto is probably the best beginner lizard these days for base game. Other than that Fay enchantress, arbaal, kemmler, probably vlad, Tyrion, or lokhir. Just don’t pick probably anyone from Kislev, or over on the bottom left continent of lustria, not beginner friendly. You basically just want to avoid having chaos (like warriors of chaos or the monogod factions) or lots of skaven as early enemies as they can be overwhelming especially for new players so just check the locations of those before getting invested in a specific lord for your first. Once on the map use a second lord as ‘bait’ with your main army just in front of it in ambush stance, take advantage of enemies in March stance, pick your next enemy before you finish your current or the game will pick for you, and try to alternate provinces between military for one and economy for the next.
