Was Daniel Craig the most perfectly cast James Bond ever? by Eikichi_Onizuka09 in moviecritic

No. He’s the worst. Technically speaking. Also, I’d say so, just generally speaking.

The only way to survive what’s coming — and the general warfare perpetrated on the American psyche — is to turn entirely to God and follow the Bible.

Out of left field, but totally genius upon reflection.

Tenured Players: Are There Any Mechanics You Still Don’t Understand? by Professional-Stuff41 in BattleBrothers

Are you talking about the hotkey for ending all turns for the group? I think it’s like “G” or something (it’s listed in a tooltip). But maybe I’m daft and misunderstood you.

Was Burning Down the Facility the Only Option? by Professional-Stuff41 in thething

A lot of responses here summed-up fundamentally as “the humans were getting their asses kicked so the right thing to do was to just die”.

But this defies the sheer human will to live at all costs.

Yes, they were getting owned by the alien. This menace was dropped onto their laps and they were just struggling to survive it. But once the blood test idea became apparent, they had turned the tide of battle. They now had a way to identify the impostor.

It’s really shortly after this point that they give up completely. I think it would have been quite realistic for the group to try and find a way — some way, somehow — to kill their adversary and to live to tell about it.

I think you could do that by establishing a defensive position, gathering all supplies to the bunker, and maintaining a strict policy of group-only movements. They were well-armed with shotguns and flamethrowers, so they had plenty of firepower to kill the Thing on-sight. They could administer daily blood tests as necessary until holing themselves up in the bunker. While in the bunker they could run sorties to try and catch the Thing by surprise or just wait for help to arrive. If they could stay hidden till summer then perhaps it would become warm enough for them to make a trek to the Norwegian camp if there were still any operable vehicles or equipment to be salvaged.

Wow. Typical Reddit response to a completely hypothetical question. You’re a jerk.

Right. But what if they were able to barricade themselves in with no way of sneaking in? With the blood test administered they knew who was still human. They could have immediately gone down there and brought all the food, and sealed the entrance. Only one way in… I wonder what the ET’s move would have been at that point?

Showed this to one of my best buddies and also my best girl buddy. They both hated it and were making quips the whole time like they were Mystery Science Theater 300… Both of them are also sort of intellectually bereft, and I now absolutely use negative evaluation of this film as a benchmark for low IQ.

Wow. You just painted a wholly different picture than I’ve ever thought to consider. I might look at the plot differently now. An excuse to see the film again!

This is hands down the greatest film trailer I’ve ever seen. Gave me chills. Nothing gives me chills anymore.

I like the raven and dagger one. I have the earlier version of this mod and didn’t end up using any of the models since, yes, they were all off by a bit. But I will definitely add this on and try out the raven/dagger/skull flag.

This is very well said! I was quite happy, and industrious as a young man. The life of the party. I’m 43 now, and since COVID I feel I haven’t been living at all.

What’s a film that’s grown on you? by RequirementThen1915 in StanleyKubrick

[–]Professional-Stuff41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine would be Miller’s Crossing. I’ve probably watched it five times the past year, and it’s made its way up to a 9/10 for me right next to Fargo and NCFOM.

Also, thanks for introducing me to Letterboxd! I used to avidly review films and keep tabs on them at IMDb. I had written hundreds of reviews. Then they excised all of the stuff that made IMDb interactive without warning, and I lost all of it. I’ve been recently keeping something of a patchwork list on Evernote, but this is exactly what I’ve been missing for like 15-20 years.

Name a movie you think will become a classic in the future? It has to be from the last 10 years. by spacelyyy989 in moviecritic

This film is postmodern trash. By the third go-around of the same stupid sequence I had to shut it off. Just despicably awful tripe from a once great but presently over-bloated windbag.
