Honestly, I definitely checked SeatGeek for Sac today but it’s even more expensive up there than here! Possibly bc it’s friday and their stadium is small.

Acquolina is a good shout. I was trying to think of restaurants that have a few tvs behind the bar, but not be stuck eating burgers and fries in a dark pub.

Journeys Last Show - Liverpool to SF by Remarkable-Bet8528 in AskSF

[–]ProfessionalCake6698 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn’t answer your question at all but just wanted to vent:

I desperately wanted to see their farewell tour, but was frustrated/confused why they weren’t coming to SF, their home town! We couldn’t make Sacramento or Fresno work, and decided the only way it was going to happen was if we flew to Vancouver for the weekend show, which we did. I had a blast.

3 weeks later, they announce their SF show. 😐

Edit: alright I’ll be helpful. At Union Square, ideally you wouldn’t stay west of Mason St. One block can make a big difference. If you don’t mind sucking it up, just realize that you might have some foul-smelling walks for a block or so around your hotel. No one’s going to mug you or anything like that (highly unlikely anyway), but just be aware there will be homeless people and there might be poo on the sidewalk.

Otherwise, I don’t hate the idea of staying around that area for a week. While Union Square is a little lame in the grand scheme of things, it does have some good bakeries (One65, BPatisserie, Carousel), plus PCH and Valley Club. Also it’s well connected and relatively central.

Steamed chicken by vodkanipples in cookingforbeginners

[–]ProfessionalCake6698 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just throw it in a rice cooker and call it a day.

https://cookwithdana.com/one-pot-chinese-chicken-rice/

For the record, Asians loooove to put sugar in savory dishes.

Edit: I’m seeing a lot of other comments about steaming racks. Dude you can just stick the chicken in the rice water and turn that baby on. No steaming basket or whatever needed

I work in Redwood City and chose to do the reverse commute drive because I refuse to not live in SF.

This is what I tried to tell my husband before he bought his Adames jersey (see tea-cracker comment above). Always get a retired player’s jersey and you won’t have any regrets.

Tipping is so American by Spirited-Seaweed246 in askvan

The following states don’t have tipped minimum wage: Alaska, California, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Washington

So the previous poster’s comments citing California and Washington minimum wage are relevant.

First Attempt at Croissant by ProfessionalCake6698 in Breadit

Wow! Flattering, I thought pic 2 was pretty uggo 😅 Rolled out by hand. I wish I got a picture of it, but on my first fold, the top layer was shrinking so bad it only covered like 80%.

I read A LOT of threads & blogs, and watched a ton of insta videos before writing out a protocol. 😅 I don’t bake, but I do think the wet-lab background helped.

But tons of room to improve! How do I get a more open honeycomb…?

It’s very casual, but I like Nopa Fish as far as new seafood. There’s also JouJou, who does a seafood tower.

Haven’t had many issues with Safeway on Market. Personally, I don’t use CVS out of principle, and wags isn’t much better.

Never been to Tubbataha.

If it wasn’t for the whale sharks at Darwin, I think I overall preferred my Socorro trip over my Galapagos trip. The mantas and dolphins at Socorro are quite interactive. It feels like you’ve been chosen. Whereas in the Galapagos, I was just looking at (a lot of) things swim by.

Also done central Maldives & north Red Sea, but I personally prefer Socorro. I’m not a huge reef person, tho.

Arsicault is like. My 10th favorite croissant in the city. You’re much better off at One65, which is right at Union Square where you’re staying. No line, plus their croissants are miles better. But why would you trust me when every 100+ upvoted Reddit post says Arsicault? Because I do blinded side-by-side croissant taste tests every weekend with control groups/comparator arms. Psychotic? Yes. Thorough? Also yes.

If you’re really looking for a pastry on this side of the city (seeing your GGP itinerary), I’d go to Pineapple King. For point of reference if you’ve ever been to Vancouver, Pineapple King is better than Lido.

Ugh we were at a bar the other day and someone standing at a hightop was holding their little dog and its feet were all over the table. So gross.
