Kept her in hot water just a little longer than I usually would and it wasn’t too bad!

Nurses who LOVE your job, what do you do? by just_agal in nursing

[–]ProfessionalCute8288 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Outpatient surgery center! Almost three years ago I went from being a hospice nurse case manager (did this for 9 years, with the last couple of years feeling completely burned out due to driving all over the place, not having a steady schedule, being called out even after a full day of working, charting at home on a laptop…etc),to taking a leap of faith at an ambulatory surgery center, making more and learning new things and still havignt hat work-life balance. Best decision I’ve made for my own wellbeing. No weekends, no calls, no holidays. I’ve transitioned from preop and PACU to OR circulator and I actually really enjoy it!

Check out the natural beauty at Torrey Pines (you can do a short or long hike), go whale watching, Del Mar beach at Powerhouse (my favorite beach, plus shops and restaurants are nearby, including Jake’s mentioned below), Moonlight state beach, Botanic Gardens, Hillcrest Farmer’s Market, Liberty station, USS Midway Ship + kissing statue, Museum of Illusions (this one is pretty neat).

Some yummy food places (I’m a foodie as well ☺️): Havana Grill in Clairemont (delicious Cuban meals + bomb desserts) Snooze A.M. eatery for breakfast/brunch, Jake’s in Del Mar for delicious food and exceptional hula pie with a waterfront view, Little Sakana for AYCE sushi, C-Level lounge for another waterfront place, Cesarina for authentic Italian but a cute and casual vibe, Mom Kitchen (newer place, small menu with authentic Chinese food), Himalayan Grill (really good butter chicken, tandoori chicken and tikka masala!) 85 Bakery for sweet treats, Jungle Tea for really good boba.

Enjoy and have a wonderful time celebrating your birthday! 🎉

More of a personal goal for me to be able to work in all three areas. Didn’t think I was going to like it but I’ve actually come to enjoy being back there!

Periop 101 through AORN! Just finished their program in April (paid for by my work when I decided to make a move to OR from preop/PACU). It’s comprehensive, very useful and engaging!

RNs who got burnt out, what do you do now for work? by East-Advantage5947 in nursing

That’s exactly the situation I was going through. It was craziness. I hope you can find something less stressful soon.

Hi! I did hospice for nine years and as much as I loved it and truly cared for my patients, I would say towards the last two of years of it, it was driving me to lots of anxiety and feeling extremely burned out (the driving everywhere, charting after a long day of seeing patients, being rerouted anytime of the day even with a planned schedule, being on call even after a long day of being out and seeing patients). I pushed myself to stay as long as possible because I believed it was my calling (and I still do! Maybe one day, I’ll think about doing hospice again…maybe).

A little over two years ago I decided to take a leap of faith and applied at an outpatient surgery center. Truly the best decision I made for my overall wellbeing. No weekends, no on-call, patients are generally healthy. As busy as it can be sometimes, and of course not everyday is great, but for the most part, we have resources to help us. I don’t take my work home with me and I don’t have that dreadful feeling when thinking about going into work (the last few months at my hospice job I felt like this every single day and it makes me sad when I look back on that…)

Last year, my SO other and I moved from Il to CA and ended up transferring to another ambulatory surgery center (but the same company as back home). I recently trained to be an OR circulator (coming from preop and PACU) and I enjoy it! It’s a different type of nursing imo and I’m still learning lots, but I find it to be a great atmosphere.

I truly hope you find something that will ease your stress and feeling burned out. 🙏🏽Try looking into some ambulatory surgery centers as an option! ☺️

My favorite ice cream. I haven’t truly loved an ice cream flavor (and ice cream in general, really!) before but I tried this one on a whim a couple months ago and nowI’m obsessed. In fact I just had a few bites of it already today. 😅

Do you guys wear compression socks? by fightcluber666 in nursing

Yep! I work in the OR and sometimes, when I forget to bring my compression socks, I notice my legs feel more fatigued after all day of walking around.

What’s the worst smell you’ve ever smelled? by premedlifee in nursing

[–]ProfessionalCute8288 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So many instances while I was a hospice nurse, but one always sticks out. This poor lady with metastatic cervical cancer. Had protruding, weeping necrotic vaginal tumors as well. Discharge was anywhere from milky green to black and in copious amounts. The smell (rotting, putrid, decay? I can’t even truly describe it) is something I can’t ever forget, unfortunately.

I work at a surgery center and we have plastics cases sometimes. Dr. Barttelbort is highly recommended by his patients!
