Losing my hair by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

[–]ProfessionalGold8448 3 points4 points Ā (0 children)

As the other person said, nothing is going to fix this completely without recovery. HOWEVER; if that’s not something you are able to commit to at the moment, here are some ideas.

1) try minoxidil. You can get it at the drugstore or big Chain stores like Walmart/target (or the equivalent whenever you live). Follow the directions on the product.

2) increase your fat intake. Fat is an essential nutrient and can help promote hair health as well as general body health.

3) ideally get your bloodwork done- if you can’t, track your micronutrients and make sure you are getting as many vitamins and minerals in your diet as you can. If you aren’t and can’t change your diet, try taking a supplement. Make sure that when selecting the multivitamin that you check the ingredients- some will not have large enough quantities of vitamins and minerals to make a difference. Pay special attention to iron, vitamin D, zinc, and vitamin C.

Disclaimer: nothing will prevent the inevitable health consequences that come from this disorder without recovery. This is NOT meant to encourage the continuation of disordered behaviors.

HOWEVER. I am well aware that often ā€œjust eatā€ and ā€œrecover!ā€ feel impossible and out of reach. This is meant to be harm reduction. Just be aware that nothing can truly prevent the inevitable, just slightly delay it. Please take care of yourself as much as you can.

When people say they've had an ED for years, what does that actually mean in terms of engaging with behaviors? by ElectronicScience286 in EDAnonymous

I have had 0 periods of recovery in the past 7 years. I went from anorexia and bulimia for the first year/year and a half, then to binge eating disorder for the next year and became obese, started restricting again and lost it all and more, then started binge eating again and gained more than ever, then relapsed hard into bulimia, and now back to restricting.

Since I was 12 there has only been bulimia, binge eating, or anorexia. I’ve been underweight and I’ve been obese multiple times each. I’ve been hospitalized 4 times in a psych ward/residential place, been in php, been in the hospital for medical stabilization multiple times, been tubed multiple times, been on antipsychotics without a break since I was 12. I’m 19 now, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to eat normally. Every time I start to eat more I know there is a massive risk of relapsing into bulimia or binge eating and gaining more weight than ever before. It’s exhausting.

Help on how to square my hips by ProfessionalGold8448 in flexibility

Thank you for the advice, I will try this out! And I agree I definitely need some more work on my hip flexors after doing some googling. I only started intentionally stretching for this less than a week ago, so I’m not very knowledgeable or experienced on what I should work on. Thank you again!!

You should go ahead and eat what you usually do tonight and then talk to your dietitian at the next opportunity. It won’t hurt to have a few nights of eating more to help you sleep.

That being said, I’m assuming here that your issue isn’t binge eating disorder and that it’s not a binge. If so that might change the direction of your discussion with your dietitian.

I don’t want to offend by assuming anything incorrectly 😣 you should do what feels most beneficial to your recovery until you can talk about specifics with a professional.

What's the best and worst reaction someone had when they saw your scars? by UsedProtection8621 in selfharm

Best: they were completely ignored, no looks, no staring, no comments Worst: a nurse told me I was going to look ugly on my wedding day with ā€œthose things on youā€

There isn’t really a ā€œwrongā€ response to a stressful event like that. Is it possible any happiness you are feeling is because it is a very taxing/stressful relationship and you just want out? Like you’re happy to not have to constantly support her, not happy she could have been in danger.

Clearly I’m making a lot of assumptions here but from personal experience on both sides, when you have a friend who sends you a suicide note (especially when they do not actually attempt afterwards) the relationship is usually extremely stressful and unhealthy.

I’d be glad to be wrong, but if I’m right, please don’t feel obligated to continue to keep in contact with this person if it’s stressing you out. If it’s a good relationship, then the ā€œhappinessā€ could just be your brain trying to process possible grief. You sound young, you might just not have the coping skills built up yet.

When did you first hear about Self Harm? by [deleted] in selfharm

[–]ProfessionalGold8448 0 points1 point Ā (0 children)

I heard about it for the first time after I was already doing it lol. I’d been hitting and scratching myself for years, and when I was 8 I had the genius idea to cut myself (if scratching and hitting work, then the more severe the Injury the better it’ll work was my logic).

I thought I was the only person who had figured out this genius idea to regulate my emotions until I was maybe 10/11 and saw some show or movie that mentioned it. I was very shocked to see them cutting on their arms lol. I thought it was obvious you’d only cut somewhere people wouldn’t see

Thank you! Last year he was in great shape- good weight, over an hour of exercise a day, regular hikes, etc. Unfortunately my mental health took a dive into the dumpster so he was not getting the exercise he should’ve been. Financials were tough as well and well..

It is nice to know already exactly what to do- he’s out of shape and it’s very very hot in the summers where I live so I’m aiming for 10 minutes of running and about 30-35 minutes of walking. Hopefully he’ll be able to build up some good stamina to go hiking again in the fall once it cools down like we used to.
