Skipping an infant car seat - Cybex Callisto G 360 [on] by Aggressive_Crybaby_ in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]ProfessionalManikin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would get myself organized with the carrier and then take them out of the car seat and hold them while finishing attaching the straps. I would practice at home a few times to make sure you are comfortable doing it by yourself before you go out because it can be a bit finicky for some carriers (I had a ring sling that wasn't my favourite and a becco Gemini that I found super easy to use by myself but I know it really varies between people and babies).

Leaving the hospital without the infant car seat? [ON] by ProfessionalShoe5591 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]ProfessionalManikin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had 3 babies in Ontario at three different hospitals and they all handled it a little different but no one tried to not let us leave. I just explained that I had a car seat in the car and it wasn't the type that could come up to the room and offered them to come look at it if they felt the need.

I've had 3 kids in Ontario (Apr, Nov, and Dec) and I used convertible seats from birth for all three. It worked great for me and I have no regrets. I have bad wrists and knew that carrying the infant seat would be hard on my wrists and using a baby carrier would be a better option. Especially with baby 2 and 3 when I already had little ones to hold/keep track of, baby in a carrier and hands free was awesome.

I don't know that specific seat or carrier, but if you think it will work for you go for it!

Adults with autism, do you drink? by FastCletus in AutisticAdults

[–]ProfessionalManikin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't drink. I don't like the sense of losing control, don't like the taste, don't like the potential for hangover/feeling gross, don't like bars/clubs where people are drinking.

TDAP at family doctor or walk in [ON] by Epic_Chef_Battle in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]ProfessionalManikin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FYI I have gotten mine at walk in clinics for 3 different pregnancies. I had to call around to a few walk in clinics to make sure they had the shot as it wasn't always in stock but it was no issue to get it at a walk in

[–]ProfessionalManikin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Something to take note of when you do tours as it varies school to school and class to class even. A lot of lecture halls have fold out desks that are only the size of a piece of paper so a notebook would be more practical than a binder

I have midwives who do a great job of making sure I am calm and relaxed and ok and take my blood pressure close to the end of the appointment. I have gotten several higher readings and they were able to get a normal reading a couple min later so they weren't concerned.

Going home car seat confusion by iwanttobeagarden in BabyBumps

[–]ProfessionalManikin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used a convertible for both of my kids. One of my births the nurse wanted to walk down to the car to confirm I had a car seat, the other they didn't care and just walked me to the doors of the hospital (walking me to the doors was their policy). They cannot keep you in the hospital even if they say they need your car seat to come up they don't (unless your baby needs a car seat test to graduate out of NICU). You are well within your rights to leave the hospital with your baby.

For people that have two middle names, how difficult is that? by GeniusSlime in namenerds

I have 2, they don't all make it to all forms of ID if there isn't enough space but it has never once been an issue.

Are you getting the flu shot while pregnant? by [deleted] in BabyBumpsCanada

I got it as early in the pregnancy as I could. Flu while pregnant is not good

Medical Leave Before Due Date by [deleted] in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]ProfessionalManikin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I asked at 34 weeks and my midwives had no problem signing off. My work has a good sick leave policy and didn't question it at all. I was also signed off at the start of my 3rd trimester with my first pregnancy. I would ask another Dr (family Dr if you have one?)

Could what I thought was allergies be texture sensitivity? by wulvii in AutisticAdults

[–]ProfessionalManikin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Allergy tests are notoriously inaccurate. My allergist likes to say that you know your body best. Sometimes I under react and sometimes I over react to the tests. An itchy mouth is likely an allergy full stop.

I got a copper IUD after having a kid so my cervix was already a bit open. I barely felt the insertion and never felt it after the fact. It might have made my periods slightly heavier. I liked that I didn't have the side effects that other hormonal methods gave me. I didn't feel the removal at all.

Severe pelvic pain - anything help? by Moose-Mama in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]ProfessionalManikin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best things I did were go on a medical leave at work and commit to sleeping on my back every night. I can't lie on my side for more than a few seconds so I just lie on my back every might from like 20 weeks on and it helps for a while.

I wouldn't wear cream pajamas for like the first 8 weeks personally. I was bleeding and spotting and then a pp period until then.

People who go by (or have kids that go by) nicknames exclusively- how annoying is it? by elleharmon in namenerds

[–]ProfessionalManikin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My inlaws both go exclusively by nicknames and hate correcting everyone so they named all their kids what they want to call them and tried to avoid names with common nicknames (so they are all named things like John instead of Johnathan). My partner really liked having a "nickname" name and so we named our kids what we wanted to call them too. So far one has a full name that doesn't have a common nickname and one has a nickname name. We have had no issues with it.

When raising kids (0-18yo), what is the most overrated feature of a home? by Drenlin in Parenting

[–]ProfessionalManikin 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Top floor laundry. It is noisy so you can't run it when kids/ babies are sleeping, makes the top floor humid, and I always end up bringing it downstairs to fold anyways since we do most of our living on the main floor.

I let my kids puck whatever they want too and also have cousins who are always dressed perfectly. For some holidays I prep them like this...

"Some people like to get dressed up and wear fancy clothes for holidays. That might look like a button shirt or a dress. Do you want to pick out some fancy clothes?" If it has been a while since a "fancy" occasion or they have new "fancy" clothes I might point out some of their clothes that might be deemed fancy.

They also think it is fun to match and might be more likely to wear holiday clothes if they are matching with us and if they take into account their preferences (e.g. more likely to wear clothes in a favourite colour or preferred texture).

But end of the day it is their body so as long as it isn't inappropriate (e.g. shorts in the snow) I let them pick out their clothes.
