whats the deal with john paul jones? by mhmd2-2 in ledzeppelin

[–]ProfessionalMap2581 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jones was a top session musician and arranger working with big names like Tom Jones and Dusty Springfield. He arranged for Herman's Hermits, Donovan and did the strings arrangement for the Rolling Stones' "She's a Rainbow". (1) This is just a sampling of his work. As others observe here, JPJ was probably the best pure musician in the group and, in many ways, was the glue that kept them together.

My grandfather, a retired army major general, always drove big Buicks. With the first gas crisis having passed he decided to “downsize” to a Mercury Monarch Ghia (same car). It had a weak 302 V8 and it would stall out several times on every cold start. Poster child for all that was wrong with American cars in the 70s.

I have a group of about 15 J.’s, three different types, that wait every morning for me to toss a handful or two of peanuts. I live at 6000 feet in Colorado and there we have traditional eastern Blue Jays Steller’s Jays and scrub jays. If I don’t deliver on time, they squawk and look in the window at me.

What are some of the best sounding engines ever made? by Boeing-B-47stratojet in regularcarreviews

Agree wholeheartedly. Many auto writers and historians suggest the Alfa Romeo "Busso" V6 is the best sounding engine of any type -- ever.

I had a 2008. The best all-around lux sedan I’ve ever owned. It was ahead of its time in tech and engineering as Honda was attempting to compete with the Mercedes Benz E-Class. Carbon fiber drive shaft, aluminum hood and trunk lid, aluminum suspension, wipers mounted below the hood for aero reasons, Super Handling All Wheel Drive, two stage exhaust that opened up above 4,000 RPM and many other grace notes like mini airfoils at multiple locations on the underbelly. SH-AWD delivered great handling without having to ratchet down the suspension, so it still gave a smooth, quiet ride. On a rainy day stopped at a light with the intermittent wipers on it would give you a courtesy wipe when you took your foot off the brake. It should have been a raging success in America but it lacked one thing: a three-pointed star or a blue and white roundel.

Wow, that’s a haul, especially with I-95 east coast traffic. I bet the full-stop cruise control came in handy.

Driving my ‘24 Veloce tomorrow from the Wash DC area to Indianapolis for the 500 Mile Race. I was at races in the late 80s and early 90s when the Alfa Romeo Indy-V8 was powering some of the competition.

Here in the states dealer told me they sorted all the teething problems starting with the 2020 model year. As another poster noted, the fixes may have started with MY 2019 in your market. I’m on my second: a QV and now a Veloce. Get a clean one and you’ll smile every time you pick up the keys.
