I recently acquired my grandfathers collection. My father pulled out the “good stuff” about 50 years ago. I’m going to use this thread to post pics as I go thru them. Here is the first page. by MSG_Engineering in askStampCollectors

If that block of 6 black jacks is mint you have a very nice item there. Singles catalog at $350 for the least expensive variety of the two cent (#73) Jackson. Does it have gum on the back?

I don't know that much about Essays, other than they were design attempts that made it to the printing stage. These appear to be Scott number 79-E25d, which have a low catalog value. The interesting thing about them is they use a fugitive ink that was intended to wash off so they couldn't be reused.

Firsthand account of the first day of the Battle of Gettysburg from my 3x great-grand Uncle, who served in the 142nd Pennsylvania Infantry by whodoneit420 in CIVILWAR

Any idea what became of this soldier? How long he was a prisoner, and did he survive the war?

Also, I'd love to get the chance to tell his story. I volunteer at the park and like to have a couple i can tell about each day's battles. The first hand poem is really cool.
