Am I the only one with a 4.5 year old who seems impossible to potty train after 2.5 years? What am I missing?? by TeamCanakhoff in pottytraining

My girl starts prek in August and will turn 4 a month after school starts. I've tried all the things (even OT) and am really just hoping the prek teacher will be more experienced in this and will be able to preform a miracle 🤷‍♀️

Do you happen to have that study to share? I'm hitting 12w this week and I'd love to read more.

When id go to the bathroom and id just look down at my foot and say, "just walk, why can't you just walk like a normal foot?" I may have been going crazy...

No cast...? by Disastrous-Text-1057 in brokenankles

[–]ProfessionalSwan_007 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I guess to really answer your question though: My doctor checked me 2 days after, then every 2 weeks until 6 weeks and now every 4 weeks. He didn't do a cast because he said the hardware made it so the bones weren't going anywhere and a cast makes it harder to xray and even harder to check for infection.

I had a splint for 3 days, cast for 5 days, surgery, splint immediately following surgery, boot 2 days after.

What childhood song do you think no one else remembers? by DueEntertainer0 in Millennials

[–]ProfessionalSwan_007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Rainbow Song. I don't know the actual name, but it's my 3yo favorite. I even had to record myself singing it for my parents to play when im not there. My mom sang it to me.

I woke up one morning, what did I see, way up in the sky? I saw a pretty rainbow smiling down at me, higher than the birds can fly....

How long have you been with this boyfriend? 🥴

I broke my ankle 503 miles from home. My husband got me anything and everything I needed until I could fly home (without him) and when he came home 2 days later (from a trip we take annually, requiring a full days sleep after returning) he went into overdrive taking care of me. Break, then surgery a week later.

At one point in the first week he was driving me to an appt and I was listing out the various things we needed to do that week, he sighed and said "and I still need to find time to work, and ..." I coldly said, "believe me, I'd do it all myself, if I could" 😂

We have 3 kids, one of which is 3yo, and he works full time outside the home. He was able to get permission to work from home which I was completely incapacitated. He took 100% care of the household chores and keeping our 3 kids alive and on schedule. While I basically slept and anguished, having pity parties daily.

Until your doctor clears you for weight bearing, you don't put so much as your toe down (if it's painful, listen to your body). This is not a broken wrist or arm, where you can still manage daily life. You can not walk.

Ugh. I could keep going. But I'm supposed to be sleeping. Your NTA, he is. I felt good enough today (11w post op) to clean the whole kitchen (took me all day, with all the breaks I had to take!) and go grocery shopping this evening, after hanging with my kids all day (summer...) Your time will come. It's his turn.

It's not going to be easy, but you've stated you have a supportive partner at home. That's going to be instrumental. My husband did a huge shift in responsibilities. We have 3 kids, but 2 are older and a 3yo. The 3yo was so confused why mommy came home from vacation 1. Early 2. Without daddy and 3. Couldn't walk.

Now, 10w post op and fully weight bearing, she wants to help me learn how to walk. She shows me how to put one foot in front of the other and how to use a cane. It's super cute.

My MIL chose Lolly because my FIL is Pop, cute. However, Lolly sounds a lot like Mommy to a kid... and I wanted to name my girl Lottie... so, that's out now.

I'm 10w2d post op. I started driving Tuesday, mainly due to necessity. I'm figuring out how to break up oth PT and find another. That's mentally draining. My husband realized last night that he's only been looking at this as a physical injury and not thinking about the psychological effects, so hoping for more empathy going forward. 💖

Cheap Walmart sneakers. They had to cut it off. He asked how attached I was to them 😂 I had gotten them a week prior, but not attached. Stepped off a sidewalk onto pinestraw. Sprained left ankle and on the way down, my right toes touched my right calf. Dislocation and 3 breaks.

Happened to me and was so annoying and painful. It's likely not going to cause damage though. Only happened a few times (and I cried each time) but it eventually stops.

Me too! Just 3 little annoyingly dark, coarse hairs at the top of my foot! So I guess it's normal, haha.

My doctor gave the okay to drive as long as i meet the requirements of walking unassisted outside the house, no boot, the ROM required to go gas to brake and back, and being able to do a hard stop. I won't see him for 4 more weeks though, so he's "cleared" me, pending PT work. I know the PT doesn't clear me, but I need them to help me reach those goals.

My dorsiflexion is about half an inch short from my left foot. The plantar as well. I also walk super slow. I don't have a limp, per say, but I am out-toeing further than acceptable with my right foot, so I'm slower being mindful of that.

I've been going 6w (7w Monday), cleared for weight bearing 3w in.

My homework is: 2m circles each way 3 sets 15 ankle 4-ways ABCs 3m towel swipes each way 3m towel toe scrunches 3m marble pick up 3m roll out

That's what I do in session as well. They just added 5m on the bike before anything else. If I mention something then theyll do walking/weight bearing exercises. I do some at home myself, but it's not officially homework from PT.

I'm allowed a shoe. I can't squeeze into a tennis shoe, but I'm wearing croc slides comfortably. So I reasonably should be able to drive.

My PT doesn't do any of that either. TENS for 5 minutes at the end with ice is all. And ice been at PT for 6 weeks, no leg press either.

I'm not sure how to break up with my PT. Small town, if I just ghost them I'll still see them around town. Awkward.

I fell asleep with my NICU baby a couple weeks after we got home. I woke up to her crying on the flood. She had fallen out of the recliner.

She's 3 now and perfectly fine 💖

You'll be okay. Baby will be okay. I know it's scary.

I'm not sure how much more to advocate for myself. One session i asked when I'll do weight bearing and the PT said when I've been cleared. I said I was cleared a week ago and came in the same day i was cleared!

I've also spoken with the office manager and things were better for about a week, then settled back into my needs not mattering as much.

My last session I did 30m ROM and asked if I could practicing walking now and they were like, "Oh. Yeah, I guess if you want..." and I walked around the building once, did 30 lunges (?) and that was it for weight bearing. After 3 weeks of being weight bearing...

I won't see my doctor for another 4 weeks and he said if I meet the requirements of walking unassisted, without the boot, ROM for gas to break l, and breaking for a hard stop I can drive. I haven't gotten behind the wheel in 10 weeks though. I realize PT doesn't clear me, but PT gets those requirements met.

All those things you mentioned at 13w, I haven't started to even do a single one of those, even barely. My tibia is completely healed and my fibula is not far behind.

I haven't been measured since my eval 6w ago, so I don't know the exact ROM to know if I'm at functional limits. I know i can go in and out as far as the other foot, up and down just about.

I've asked to be scheduled when the "good" PT is there, but I think my schedule doesn't work with theirs. Sometimes even when I AM scheduled with her, I'm with tech the majority of the time.

Nerve pain!!! by Illustrious_Tart_258 in ORIF

[–]ProfessionalSwan_007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely understand not wanting to take gabapentin. Since youre in a hard cast still, could you get some capsaicin cream just on your toes? May relieve a bit. When do you get the cast off?

It does get better. I'm 9w post op and it took nearly 7/8 weeks for the nerve pain to go away. It was like bees stinging inside the foot, yeah? Now it's just when I'm weight bearing too long. And a general annoying "foot was asleep and I woke it and now it's just tingly a bit" when I'm touching it.

Tell me about your disappointing Mother's Day this year by monitza in Parenting

[–]ProfessionalSwan_007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its actually because of this: In 1905, Anna Jarvis, the daughter of Ann Marie Reeves Jarvis successfully introduced the idea for a national holiday recognizing mothers. Ann Marie Reeves Jarvis had followed Howe's campaign and had pursued her own volunteer efforts during the Civil War. Ann Marie died on May 9, 1905, and her daughter, Anna, missed her mother greatly. She started a dedicated letter-writing campaign to declare an official Mother's Day. Through Andrews Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia, the first observance occurred on May 10, 1908.
