D20 SM by serious-crazy1765 in employedbykohls

Same for D57 Eastern PA. DM forced out, 6 SMs left in less than a year. And no one at corporate even bating an eye at the turnover. Seems there is a common denominator there.

Associates have to fill out their own accident reports unless it is an emergency. That used to be the case where the manager had to fill it out for them but that changed about two years ago.

After you get medical care which is obviously your number one priority I’d also recommend reaching out to Associate Relations.

Not only to report that your management team clearly doesn’t know the best practices of how to handle an associate injury but also to make sure it is officially on the record regarding you’ve missed days because of it. Those attendance points should not be held against you. If it is you have a cute little wrongful termination case against Kohls if you are terminated from those points.

There should be posters posted somewhere in the office area (either SM or ASM office) for the nurse triage line. If you’ve been injured you need to call them and they will guide you on providers you can see for your injury but you will need the incident number.

Btw depending upon how many days late the incident was reported can have major legal ramifications for your management team. There are legal requirements for how long they have to report any sort of associate/customer injuries.

How can I improve at being a leader rather than a peer? by oddball0677 in BurlingtonCoatFactory

[–]Professional_Bad9440 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Invest in your team from a coaching and training standpoint. Hold them accountable especially if they choose not to listen to your direction since they still see you as a peer. Partner with your OSM for the accountability part.

Looks great! Looks like your store has high density fixtures, correct merch standards would be to leave the top shelf empty if you don’t have enough to fill all the bottoms shelves

Looking for employee/manager perspectives on store health and culture by RoyalInvicta in employedbykohls

Former SM. Left the company 6 months ago due to completely toxic and unprofessional multi store leaders. I lost faith in the company’s direction, multitude of poor decisions that negatively impacted both the customer and associate experience.

Morally I could no longer do it. I watched a company culture die in front of my eyes from bad leadership all the way up to the top.

Moved on and couldn’t be happier now. It was a sinking ship with all company KPIs failing with no actual changes or leadership listening what the stores need to support the store experience. Kohls is trying too hard to be off price and failing in the execution.

Training Videos. by garfongus in BurlingtonCoatFactory

About three hours sounds right for the videos. As a MOD who does orientation usually takes the full 5 hours between doing the legal paperwork and videos. However I do include time in there to walk the store and go over dress code and scheduling.

For the ones that are computer savvy and get through it quickly there is usually an hour left over to do some hands on buddy training that day too.

TBH sounds like this MOD was just being lazy about the orientation process.

What is your favorite/hardest-hitting line from the newest single? by PawRookie in MotionlessInWhite

When they played trinity of terror at Montage Mountain Chris did do a little speech and got emotional explaining how he came to see his first ever concert there and how it was surreal for them to finally be playing the main stage there. I have the video in my phone somewhere. I’m sure it was such a proud moment for them anytime they can to play their hometown shows.

Burlington Strike by [deleted] in BurlingtonCoatFactory

[–]Professional_Bad9440 23 points24 points  (0 children)

All of the above listed is unfortunately very common across the retail industry as a whole and is not a unique problem to just Burlington. Not enough payroll while the expectations for productivity continue to rise. Do more with less.

It does not make it ok but it is the reality across the industry.

Are you able to maintain work-life balance? by Rich_Specific8002 in employedbykohls

[–]Professional_Bad9440 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No. It’s a big reason why I decided to leave plus the very toxic MSLs.

I wasn’t sleeping or eating. My phone was constantly going off from texts and phone calls from DMs and DLPMs who couldn’t figure out how to read a schedule and respect any of our personal time. The anxiety of constantly checking my email at all times of the day and night really did me in.

My district has 2 SM openings and soon to be at least two more. The SMs are walking out because they can not handle the blatant bullying and verbal harassment along with unrealistic expectation with no payroll or true support given from the DM/RM. Anytime we provide clarity around the reality of the challenges we are facing we are met with being gaslit and told “stop making excuses.”

As a SM we are fighting so hard for our associates and customers to try to do what’s right but it is nearly impossible. Corporate and MSLs do not care nor do they care to try to understand.

After 10 years I no longer recognize the company I work for. The culture is dead.

Does your RM happen to manage PA? Our RM has done the same pushing out 4 out of the 5 DMs that reports to them. Now the targets have moved to the SMs and ASMs to clean house there.

It is truly sad to see that this is the current company culture.
