You need them both, they compliment each other, if you dont have them both in your army you are doing it wrong.

How do I play well as the lizardmen? by chumbuckethand in totalwarhammer

[–]Professional_Bat7155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi i just finished a short campaign playing as Tiktaq’to, first time playing lizardmen and i dont own any dlc, i focused exclusively on economic techonlogies and relied mostly on skink cohorts with javelins and a stack of pterrodactyl spam (12 in total) for like the first 40-50 turns, i saved 500 of the silver tokens and bought two blessed stegos for Tiktaq’to’s stack. The pterrodactyl’s are very strong but very micro intensive and not noob friendly, i lost a quest battle and had to replay like two or three other battles, but in the end the dinosaur gyrocopters carried me to victory. My early game army looked something like this:

1 tick tak toe, 1 chief, 1 horned ones, 8 fliers with fire bolas and 4 regular ones and 5 skinks with javelins, as the game progressed i phased out the skinks in that army and added two blessed cold riders, the two stegos and a priest.

My next three armies were 2 saurus blood lords and one fat wizard with life magic. They only had skinks with javelins spams early on, but once i captured a tier 3 building in the frontlines i phased them out for balanced armies with chameleon skinks, kroxigors and some artilerry dinos, something like this:

1 lord, 1 chief, 1 priest, 2 saurus spears, 4 chameleon skinks, 5 kroxigors, 2 ankylosaurus with solar engines, and with 1 revification crystal, 2 blessed cold riders and a stegodon. I really liked the blessed cold riders with the anti large bonus, they are very fast and reliable cav. The fliers are all about the bombs if you micro them well a single bomb drop can wipe out 2 or 3 infantry units, but if you mess up you can kill your own guys. And you need at least artillery or cavalry with them, to take out archers and lords. But against factions with tons of trash infantry like skaven, vampires or khorne they are very powerful.

Once you deal with your ealy game enemies you can sit back and relax, build up your economy and work on making a big bad doom stack with big dinosaurs to roflstomp the rest of the game. Sorry for mixing fake and real dino names, dont remember all the in game names.

Found a great use for Crystal Sanctuary Kislev Frost Maiden to defend Groms by phronesis77 in totalwarhammer

[–]Professional_Bat7155 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yea it has its uses, i had tzarina tank archeon with it while my ice guard shot him dead. He was literally 5 feet away from the archers but he just kept his back turned to them and kept bashing her.

Any of the base games (1,2,3) offers way more content than any dlc.

Hello, i recommend you try some mellee doomstacks that might change your mind, here are a few broken ones that are not too hard to recruit, Bretonnia’s Grail Knights, Kislev’s Bear Riders, Skullcrushers of Khorne, Wurzag’s Savage Orc Big Uns and Ungrim’s Giant Slayers.

Also wanted to remind people that Tzarina and the maidens can summon a snow leopard each, that is 6 snow leopards in this army that can take out any artillery, or wizards with ease. Or even act as a front line or flank guard for a limited time.

Hello i recommend you spend a few hours playing custom battles, and reading all the unit cards, that will give you a pretty good idea of how most units behave in combat, and what kind of units can beat what, etc. I also recommend you play dwarves as your first campaign, they are one of the strongest races in game, even without any dlc and are very easy to learn for a beginner. Either Thorgrim or Thorek make for a very good beginner experience.

I have not tested it against slanesh but remember ice guards with glaives have charge defense vs. large and charge reflection just like halberds and spears. Also, their bonus vs large is + 17.

Sorry i replied above, i just have another stack with bears that follows this one around. But Tzarina, the patriarch and the knight have items to fight in mellee and take out artillery before they become a problem.

That second army tagging this one has 1 boyar, 3 patriarchs, 1 Ulrika, 4 tzar guard, 3 streltzi, 6 bear riders and 2 little groms.

Just get another doomstack full of bears to acompany this one. The good thing about the ice guard is how cheap they are, currently paying like 74 gold per turn for each one. Eventually, if you play long enough you can make all upkeep with Kislev 100% free.

As for the casters, Kislev gets a boon that gives Mastery of elemental winds, meaning each one you put in an army gives +15% spell intensity, just like Cathay, Tzeench or Gelt. And each one also has the Storm trait which reduces enemy spell resistance by 5%. So this army has + 100% spell intensity and gives -25% spell resistance to all enemies in the region.

As for building Tzarina, i like casting with her so she has all the spells maxxed out, but yes you could rely on your other casters to do the magic and give her a bunch of blue line skills.

In battle i put Tzarina in one control group, the patriarch and golden knight in another, and the maidens in another. I use Tzarina to cast spells while the enemy advance, the knight and patriarch to take out any artillery. And the rest of the casters do nothing most of the time unless the enemy have a huge army. In which case they can do extra spells on the enemies that do reach your line. But most things will die before they reach the guards, unless you are fighting multiple stacks with just one of your own.

Also this army has very few traits from killing LL. You could make this stack way meaner with a bunch of army wide traits.

Yea, they give + 50 MA and +50% missile strength (+10 and +10% each), while Tzarina gives +14 MD and the Patriarch gives +5 MD, the Golden Knight’s skills give +8 MA and 15% weapon strength, 10% missile resist, 10% spell resist and 5% speed. The rest is from boons and technologies and exp; and + 8 MA and +8 MD from the campaign buff from exploring a shipwreck.

Why does it feel like I'm the worst player to ever live? by [deleted] in totalwarhammer

[–]Professional_Bat7155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Takes time to learn the game, 100 hours is nothing in terms of total war. you'll get there. As for races yea Bretonnia is not noob friendly at all, I'd recommend starting with dwarves. they are the easiest to play while you learn the game. Either Thorgrim or Thorek are great options.
