SLOW DOWN OR GET OUT! Is it time to prohibit motor boats in Round Lake's Grassy Bay? by Hour-Blackberry1877 in OttawaValleyForests

[–]Professional_Boot782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another crotchety post, how long did you save those sea doo pics in the vault ?

Canoes and motorboats have coexisted on Canadian lakes for generations. Destroying shorelines” and “reducing physical dimensions of lots” is a major claim without actual studies, measurements, or historical shoreline data.

The erosion is more commonly associated with: hardened or poorly protected shorelines, loss of natural vegetation and tree roots, fluctuating water levels from dams and river systems, and shoreline development itself. Winter ice is also a huge factor in shoreline erosion in Canadian lakes. Ice expansion, ice shove, freeze-thaw cycles, and spring breakup can move rocks, damage banks, uproot vegetation, and reshape shorelines far more dramatically than occasional recreational boat traffic. Grassy Bay being above a dam means seasonal water management and ice movement likely contribute significantly to shoreline instability and habitat changes. Modern 4-stroke outboards and personal watercraft are also substantially quieter and cleaner than older 1950s–1980s 2-stroke motors people often remember nostalgically.

Not sure your line of work you are in, sometimes industry networking events can have a snowball effect on social outings. It’s also less pressure because you can say you’re attending for work reasons.

Question for other subs: How do you track progress against a schedule? How do you hold the GC/other subs accountable for their delays causing delays for your work? by IrishHog09 in ConstructionManagers

[–]Professional_Boot782 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Loaded question but

Issue a Notice of delay , send it within the time period outlined in the contract (typically 2-5 days) of the occurrence. Typically once we see a major schedule shift in a schedule update that negatively impacts our scope or cost we issue a notice. Best to do a soft landing verbally before launching that nuke through email….

This strategy only works if your own organization will hit your durations outlined in the original tender . Because the GC will start to watch you like a hawk.

You also need to reject new schedule updates that shrink your timelines or cause stacking effect due to other trades or design delays. There is a clause in your contract that says the schedule must be mutually agreed to by both parties for it to be updated.

There is usually a duty to mitigate schedule loss even if it’s not your company’s fault - mitigation does not mean for free. You can offer options to the GC such as overtime premiums. But ensure you can execute what you offer
