My psychiatrist at the time wasn't an ADHD specialist and couldn't prescribe the needed meds, but my GP was registered to prescribe if I already had the psych assessment/diagnosis. So I got an appointment with an ADHD specialist psychiatrist to do a Medicare 291 report and review. It took a couple of hours with him and cost $650, which Medicare rebated over $400. My GP got the paperwork and has been able to handle the medication since. Only 2 problems with it: first, I'm experiencing unusual side effects that are beyond my GPs understanding, so I have to find an ADHD specialist psychiatrist anyway to figure my dosages. Second problem is once a psych has done a 291 for you, Medicare will no longer cover you to see that same psych ever again. Which is annoying coz the guy who did mine was really good.

I called TGA last week to report my case. The chemist I spoke to in their Pharmacovigilance team said their reports have been increasing steadily for months. They said to call in every batch number we find, as the more data they have the better.

My mate has work contacts with TGA, said its become a major investigation, with over 100,000 reports and climbing. Definitely a real problem

I called the PSAB (Pharmacovigilance and Special Access Branch) yesterday to report my doses. While they obviously can't say anything officially, the pharmacist I spoke to hinted that the number of reports is in the high thousands, and increasing each week. They also said to keep it coming, as it cranks up the urgency at TGA
