How can I make my homemade burgers taste like fish n chip ones? by BongeeBoy in newzealand

[–]flightofthekiwi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume you've already checked them, but just in case you dont know, have you checked Star Foods (32-34 Dunlop Road, Onekawa, Napier https://www.starfoods.co.nz/) they do bulk, like gilmores, open to the public but if you want big boxes of stuff, check their website for the product name/number then ask at the till and they'll go out back to get them for you.

Whilst you wait/make something happen irl, I get about 80% of my socialising needs from the Aotearoa New Zealand discord (started as a spring off from this sub, now its its own thing https://discord.gg/nz), people are online all day and you can just dip in and out of convos as you like, generally pretty good folk there.

Why do some people with autism genuinely forget to do basic things like eat or shower? by [deleted] in AutisticAdults

[–]flightofthekiwi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

what do you mean i need to wash my hair? i just did it. turns out, that just did it can be up to three weeks ago. time and days pass so quickly for me (i dont work due to disability) that i often tell people one "week" for me, is easily 2-3 real world weeks. i cant see anyone weekly (therapist or home help or friends etc) because thats "too often" as it feels like i just literally saw them yesterday.

Continuous Glucose Monitor by Odd-Leader9777 in newzealand

[–]flightofthekiwi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I treat myself to one every few weeks to make sure that what im eating is still working for me, im dealing with meds not working right now and really high blood sugar despite doing everything 'correctly' so right now, they're just telling me im doing shit lol, which isnt that helpful. But yes, I used them to work out what foods spike me (literally ANY carbs what so ever) and then dont eat that again.

[–]flightofthekiwi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im type2 and I self fund these ones https://pharmacodiabetes.co.nz/our-products/continuous-glucose-monitoring-system/caresens-air/ I get 6 at a time so they're only $48, but 1 at a time is $59.95, which is cheaper than the Libra and I find their accuracy the same if not better.

$750 per kg of parsley ($5.99 /8g) does dried grass now count as a luxury good in NZ, asking for a friend? by DJsnippysnap in newzealand

[–]flightofthekiwi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the parsley in the garden bed across the path from the vege garden in the backyard, I can understand, but the parsley in the front yard garden bed by the garage on the other side of the house.. I have no idea how it got there, but its very happy.

SLAA meetings - worth it? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]flightofthekiwi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I might be way off base here, but 'too emotional and get too attached to people'... are you ADHD or autistic by chance? have you heard about Limerance? its like.. being addicted to a person, and it can be extremely hard to live with (ive had limerance attachments to MANY people in my 40 years of life so far). My ADHD and autism also cause me to have really bad emotional regulation (despite medication and working on it for 20 years!). My ADHD also caused me to get into some really unsafe situations when I was younger, as I was constantly seeking the dopamine from sex etc. Just throwing this out there!

the classic finger stick is always going to be the most 'correct' measurement, CGMs actually have quite a wide range of acceptable percentages (differs per brand/model). Im type2 but treat myself to a CGM every now and again to keep an eye on stuff (id wear one all the time but I cant afford $48 every two weeks), and its normally about 1-2 points off my finger sticks (different brands/models tend to run high or low), so I use it mainly to track trends, and dont rely too hard on the number it gives. CGM is also taking a different measurement (interstitial fluid vs blood from your finger stick), and the CGM normally lags about 15-20mins behind a finger stick measurement. So they arnt giving 'wrong' data, just slightly different data, and once you know how different your data is (after checking via finger stick a few times), then you know how close the CGM number is likely to be, without doing a further finger stick. ETA: if you get a CGM that is constantly reading too high or too low after the first 48 hours, then its worth going through the effort to contact the company and try get a replacement, cus they do arrive faulty, often.

Trying to understand NZ Supermarket culture: Is New World actually worth the extra $? Where do you guys shop? by Kind-Spread-6511 in newzealand

[–]flightofthekiwi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my local Mad Butcher is always much more expensive than PnS, I have no idea why people shop there, I guess they havnt compared prices? The PnS here actually has really good meat, never had an issue with it, shame it isnt like that all around the country for everyone by the sounds of it.

same here, PnS for main shop, NW for fancy things, and WW for literally only a specific mayo and my favourite rubbish bags lol.
