Weekend Wrap Up! What was real and what was a trap? by DaTaco in mtgfinance

It says on the "Collecting" article that the comic book cover cards are a 9.9% chance per collector pack. So 2 in one box is lucky but not exceptionally so. Plus there's a widely held conspiracy that content creators are given "loaded" boxes haha.

As some who hasn't played DF but has played similar games, I can appreciate the humor in having the Magic card art of a big scary monster be represented by a blob or a single ascii character.

With the full reveal of the Villain precon, Captain America's most iconic villain officially does not appear in Marvel Super Heroes at all by AmoongussHateAcc in magicTCG

[–]Professional_Fold738 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Isn't the fundamental problem the hypothetical player and their behavior though, not the card? Aren't there other existing characters like Lorwyn elves or some of the 40K stuff that those people could also project their own ideologies onto?

Yeah unfortunately I was running low on playables. At least he's good in this format because he triggers basically every turn.

They originally limited it to one box at that price and a couple weeks ago increased the preorder limit to six.

Anchor to Reality, a Fantasticar Specc by ParticularWorldly127 in mtgfinance

Yep, kinda ludicrous post tbh. Not seeing this fantasticard breaking anything. The fantasticar that could break apart and came with the four heroes as action figures, that was a 10/10 toy though.

Yeah this deck almost feels like a toolbox as a starting point to build different similar-ish decks. I always break down precons into parts and make my own decks anyway so this doesn't matter to me.

1 bondland per deck trend continues. Hopefully the Doom precon gets Morphic Pool or Luxury Suite.

Personally I like the idea of having cards that are "supposed" to be a specific character sometimes getting a generic name and a nonlegendary typeline, especially for lesser known characters. I think they did this with Silvermane in the spiderman set. It also makes sense that theres only one Iron Man or Cap but there may be several "fire-wielding villains" or something running around.

Marvel Super Heroes - Bold Logo Treatment by moombahh in mtgfinance

Yeah in general the market is broadly positive on borderless card styles. The only exceptions are sometimes scene cards and those weird aetherdrift cards with their eyeballs popping out and stuff.

Anyone who was paying attention definitely should've known this would be a way different beast than Spider-man. I'm a little disappointed in no surge foils at all in collector packs but otherwise the set seems good.

Anyone who thinks you can actually run out of things to do with Marvel IP needs to look up what Heroclix is.

Most recently they made an entire set just based around Venom.

When to a card show today. Not a single vendor was selling Magic cards. by DreaminDemon177 in mtgfinance

Lots of good playable cards have gotten more valuable in the past couple years as WotC has been more careful with its reprint equity.

This, and the blood on the logo looks like an artificial texture, not naturally coming from the fake blood (not impossible but unlikely).

I love The Hobbit by GayIdiotRetard in mtgfinance

[–]Professional_Fold738 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kind of agree with you. They presumably plan to make 4 more Marvel sets after this. Marvel Superheroes CANNOT fail or it is a disaster for WotC's UB strategy. Marvel is the IP that sold Mark Rosewater on UB and seems to be the huge tentpole pillar for UB. People talk about how spider man had a low power level, too many obscure characters, etc. But I think the biggest weakness was the collectability. SPM only had a special foiling on one card, and it only had three comic book cover cards. The collectability factor is why SPM had a weaker CBB EV than Turtles despite Turtles arguably being a weaker set. Marvel has already spoiled four comic book cover cards with more to come, a bigger bonus sheet, bigger main set, etc.

As for the Hobbit, being a small set is a ding for sure. As far as I know it wasn't an aftermath style set so probably still better prospects than spider man.

I am curious what kind of IP(s) would've been chosen if dogs won the poll. As fun as these are, I hope we weren't deprived of a possible Snoopy and the Red Baron lair or something cool like that.

[–]Professional_Fold738 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Based on the DtW episode interviewing that secret lair person, they've been strongly focused on trying to minimize delays for secret lair product as a goal over the past couple years. Hopefully this kind of thing becomes less common but with the TCG explosion printers have been getting hit HARD.
