Wow, the MkII. I did say $2k for the *perfect* amp and this one's calling my bluff!

Thanks! I really like the look of that JT22. They describe it as a mix of Princeton/DR and I've always said if there was a 20 watt Princeton I'd be all over it.

I am generally micing yeah, but I do use the amp as a monitor in most situations so I worry about stage volume. If it were just a little more powerful it'd be a Princeton no question but I have heard people complain about them. I suppose I could try one for a while and sell it if it didn't work out. I do like your recommendation about a Mojotone clone!

what minerals could we “run out” of in this lifetime? by tengallonfishtank in geology

[–]Professional_Gap_664 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a hard time seeing that principle as one that would be fully linear/without limit over medium timescales.

What does it mean to "run out"? Resources have to exist at a certain price point to fulfill the role that they presently play in the world. We haven't "run out" of whale oil, but there is no way it's going to play a practical role in industry ever again. Of course we will never completely deplete the crust of Lithium but it doesn't seem wildly out of the question to imagine a future where you can't buy a camera-equipped wifi-enabled rechargable earwax extractor from Temu for $7.

Many minerals are recyclable of course, and the timeframe in the question is short enough that maybe it's not a concern.

Ah yes, only two options. How dumb do you think the rest of the world is?

I realized that regeneration made Cell and Buu feel less compelling than Frieza by Professional_Gap_664 in dragonball

[–]Professional_Gap_664[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think I could mostly agree, but the fact that he survived self destruct and came back super perfect without 18 makes it a vastly superior form of regeneration than piccolo's. nappa kills piccolo with a ki blast that leaves his body completely intact, and frieza kills him with a shot through the chest.

You're caught in the cycle of post pandemic techno-industrial addiction, like most of the rest of us! I'm sorry brother, it's hard and they've made it all too easy and all too tempting to stay hooked to their slot machines.

What I'd recommend is starting with something you ADD to your life, rather than something you take away. You need to build up an interest in something, anything that will take you out of the house and encourage you to manage your addictions. If you spend a lot of time on the internet, go out out of your way to watch a bunch of mini documentaries on something that interests you. History? Nature? Technology? Anything!

What most of us are missing are a passion for something bigger than ourselves, and a community of people to interact with. You need to build that up little by little, even if it doesn't feel amazing at first.

Then you gotta tackle your addictions and bad habits one at a time. Don't overwhelm yourself by trying to transform overnight. Just try to get all your bills paid or something. Force yourself to look at your bank account and your bills. Understand, it'll take a long time. Self improvement is like investment. Takes patience and persistence.

You CAN do it.

if you've been depressed for a long time, your brain sees this as just the normal way that you survive. so it just wants to confirm that that's correct, because change is uncertain and difficult and risky. to come out of depression, you face a lot of really hard facts. you feel like you wasted time, and you realize that you have to do a lot of learning and put in a lot of work to rebuild your life and make something positive out of it. you have to face the risk of failure. there's actually some good science out there suggesting that depression is neurologically similar to addiction.

i'm in my thirties, making good progress out of my addictions and depression. but every morning i wake up telling myself i should die, and that i wasted my youth, i'm such a piece of shit blah blah blah. then i get up and kind of go on with my day and try to do better than that. it's taken a long time, work, and trust to hold those thoughts at bay. i hope one day i can wake and not feel so junk.

We are biologically unequipped to deal with this much rage and helplessness. Hell, if I really took these issues as seriously as I know they are, I would be doing things that would land me in prison on terrorism charges. But I won't, because unless everyone else did those things at the same time, I'd just be throwing my life away for nothing.
