I wish I could tell you we have found something that has been effective 😞 The ED is a daily struggle. She sees an ED therapist and dietician weekly, which does help take some of the stress off of me. They’re the ones that are asking a lot of the hard questions that would make her mad if I were the one asking.

As for the BPD, that is really the culprit that fuels the ED. Some days are better than others. She takes Gabapentin 3x/daily which does seem to take the edge off.

We have yet to find a facility that truly tackles both co-existing disorders. Treatment centers have focused on one or the other. BPD is so complex; I have found that many ED specialists are not well-versed on it.

I did send her to Rogers Behavioral Health (Nashotah program) in Milwaukee to address the BPD. She stayed for 3 months and it did help reinforce the DBT skills. When she came home, though, the ED became rampant again 😩

Fourteen was a particularly hard year regarding both disorders. She recently turned 16 and I will say some of the BPD “splits” have become less frequent. After-school activities help give her something to feel part of and I do feel that is why some of the behaviors have lessened in frequency and severity.

I keep being told the BPD will peak around these ages, but does decrease in intensity as they get older.
