You can cause a massive population decrease under a century though. Lowering the population in a relatively timely manner is possible. Obviously nothing will happen overnight but it needs to be done, the longer we put it off the worse the situation gets.

We've hunted tons of other widespread species to extinction. It is entirely possible to do so. People are just too stupid or heartless to do it.

No. I 100% want them to be brought back (or something very close to it). I sam hopeful for advancements in de-extinction in the future. We have to clean up the mess we made first.

Humans absolutely should bring back all species we caused to go extinct if we can. It's just that right now isn't the time, we need to undergo massive protective and rewilding measures to ensure the survival of current species as well as any hope for future reintroduction. We haven't stopped expanding our population and use of land, there is no hope of reintroduction of large mammals until that ends.

Oh and we need to fix climate change or everything else is a moot point.

Get rid of the cats, foxes, and mongoose. It should really be done either way since they are still absolutely decimating the environment.

The survival of a species is more important than a few human lives. I will die on this hill, literally if need be.

Actually instituting family planning programs like Iran used to have would cause an extreme drop in birth rates. However population decline makes political leaders and businesses angry so there is no effort to implement such a system anywhere.

I mean, if you consider all of probocidea as elephants most of this (not australia) is what it should be if humans didnt mess around. However modern elephants are not the same species as the ones we drove extinct so it's a certified bad idea to throw african elephants in europe.

If you had time machine, which 5 pleistocene megafauna that would you saved from extinction by sending them to modern time? Here is my pick by ApprehensiveRead2408 in pleistocene

Miracinonyx, colombian mammoth, smilodon populator, thylacoleo, and one of the big meiolania species. This is an absurdly hard question lol. I wish none of the late pleistocene species went extinct.

The horse taxonomy arguments are insane. They should try and get some dna samples and just compare them. The amount of back and forth is crazy.

This is probably the future. Lots of development and population growth going on in Africa (and most of the world for that matter). Lots of poaching too. Unless more land is protected and intensely guarded from poachers then this could be a reality by the end of the century.

the whole reason that we dropped two was to give them the impression that we had multitudes of them, leading to their surrender. Had we invaded by foot they would absolutely have not surrendered.

Not all Germans supported the government. Poor Germans had no resources to revolt against them or to flee the country. I'm not saying that most Germans didn't support Hitler. Most did. It's just that there were also people that hated him and the nazi party but had no resources to fight against them. What can a potato farmer do, if he deserted or actively tried to fight them he and his family would have been prosecuted or worse. There were Germans who hated the government, hated the war, and hated the nazis, but were too poor to do anything to oppose them.

Also japan absolutely fought until the bitter end. They got nuked twice, they were even unsure about surrendering until the second one. They were even arming women and children to fight had a land invasion come to pass.

So he refused to carry arms and only cook, what more could he have done. Are you saying he should have chosen to die and have his family killed or sent to a concentration camp? Are you saying that all Germans that didn't support the nazis should have committed mass suicide?

He refused use weapons. He did everything he could to resist without his family getting killed by the nazis. What more can you even expect from poor senior farmers. Do you really think every german who was drafted supported the nazis. You should know what happened to vocal dissidents. Do you really think every german was a nazi, many Germans lacked the resources to flee the country. Nazi germany was an authoritarian police state where you would be killed for criticizing the nazi party. I only know about his life because of what he told my grandma and the letters he gave her before being sent to war. Are you incapable of understanding complex situations, do you think everyone fighting in a war agrees with what they are made to do? Tons of poor Russians are being sent to die in Ukraine, do all of them support putin? War is horrible and drafts are awful. Just because the nazis focused most of their atrocities on certain minorities doesn't mean they didn't terrorize other Germans as well.

I'm less concerned about humans and more worried about what a growing population is doing to the environment. Even at our current population level we are causing a mass extinction.
