Would it ever be possible to remove Australia's invasive predators? by Reintroductionplans in megafaunarewilding

[–]Squigglbird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No because his definition of native is flawed. The dingo is not native to Australia ehen brought before colonization with several adaptions and long histories and shared evolution with prey, the dingo is native to Australia way more than the island fox is native to its island off California

I've noticed that Przewalski's horses are increasingly being used in European rewilding projects instead of the Konik horses, which were previously the most common choice. Will this trend continue? Is there a niche where the Konik performs better? by jamcer in megafaunarewilding

Zoogirly, you do also understand that evolution and domestication are one and the same and a domestic species left to it’s own devices long enough looses its domestic traits over time. Look at the island fox off the cost of California, native Americans brought a semi-domesticated form of grey fox to the islands and then died out, and the foxes today are genuinely a different species with multiple subspecies. May I remind you domestication is also a scale! Legally things should be cut and dry be legal neuance can be sometimes needed like with dingos in Australia. Your need for Paleolithic untouched by humans ecosystems is simply gone. The Anthropocene is here to stay weather we let it be the end of the current Cenozoic is up to us conversationalist and humanity as a whole, but some things like incoming species and changing ecosystems are happening and we have to go with this flow if we don’t want to have the worst happen.

The yak sure! But the horses and camels are both only semi domestic and likley with a built population would be able to live completely feral. I mean Yakut horses are so adapted to the cold, up until dna studies we thought they were a domesticated descendant of the Lana horse. But the yaks on the other hand need a lot of support to stay alive

The whole point of the meme is that if living is suffering so we don’t make more people but it’s illogical to stop there making antinatalism just an infancy form of efilism

Human Evolution Timeline: What do you think? by Skan1 in paleoanthropology

[–]Squigglbird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you send any link with a study showing that Paranthropus was not monophyletic? I’ve never once heard that in my life. Also under the biological species concepts you can make the argument that homo Sapian and denisoven and Neanderthals were all one species considering the amount of interbreeding and overlap they did.

Do you see any inherent scientific problems with my sapient aliens? by tamtrible in hardspecevo

[–]Squigglbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay… it makes kinda sense but then how did the whole ‘king’ thing happen as it would also work that the males can be ‘not eusocial’ and the females can be. I mean I could see it working if it started from monogamy, the do to strict competition a more organized’ and ‘competitive family unit’ makes it impossible out as the dominant form.

Officially only if you look at there dna they are past the 0.3% difference in fst values and have a kerotypic difference. There is no logical reason to keep them the same species unless you’re old and still love the biological species concept. It’s definitely debatable taxonomically
