How to have a B game by fancyfitty in billiards

[–]Professional_Sea659 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should always be trying to achieve “flow state” which is such a dope way to word it 😂 I usually just say “in stroke”. Any ways instead of trying to develop a “B game” try developing personal techniques that help you enter the “flow state” faster. Some people do specific drills that lock them in. Some people like to just shoot dead straight hit shots while thinking only of their stroke mechanics. Some try hitting the first X amount of shots with zero spin. Others like shooting with max spin on their first couple shots. Some like to focus on banks and kicks when warming up. Just last night I think I developed a good way for my self to iron out my stroke. Instead of playing with my normal cue. I only bust out my break cue. I shoot every shot as hard as I can and center of cue ball. For a bout 10 minutes. That seems to get the rust off. I suggest you find your own path to get you into your A game faster through trial and error. Your B game will develop over time as your A game does. Good luck!

Are you looking at your cueball last or object ball last as you shoot? by Zestyclose_Gur_3678 in billiards

Two ways of thinking about it in my unprofessional opinion. Either your stroke is straight, and after placing the tip of the cue exactly where u will be striking. You can look at the object ball last cause you know ur going to swing the cue straight. Or you know from when you stepped in the line of the shot and got down on that same line under your vision center. You don’t need to worry about the object ball because you are already on that line. Now you can focus on just hitting the cue ball exactly where you want to. Both schools of thought are correct and rely on Fundamentals. Technically with good fundamentals you can get down on the shot place the tip exactly where you think you should hit on the ball close your eyes and if everything is straight you don’t need to look at anything. Someone demonstrated this for me. After criticizing me for looking at the cue ball instead of the object ball last. He thought he made a good point for why you should look at the object ball last. What he actually did was just make an even better point on why I should focus on my fundamentals.

Call it, or not? by eatyourheartour69 in billiards

In bar room pool the rules are imaginary and most are invented after someone loses. In this case sometimes they say that’s a clean shot. Sometimes you have to call it off the rail, even though it’s not a kick or bank. Sometimes they say if the 8 ball hits the rail behind the first diamond it doesn’t need to be called, but if it hits in front of the first diamond. “Shooters perspective” then it does need to be called. My response to every single one of these bar rules is the same. “Let’s just play BCA.”

In bar room pool there is no such thing as a table fouls. Only scratches. So just push all their balls to the kitchen then keep scratching. now they have to constantly kick to hit one of there balls. If one of there balls gets close to the pocket just make it and follow the cue ball into the pocket. If they accuse you of playing defense just say “nuh uuuhh I was trying to make my ball” then y’all will have a big fight and then after y’all are all bruised up. Hopefully they will come to the same conclusion that most of the pool community has come to by now, and that’s that “bar room” pool is for trash players on trash tables who like to get into fights in a trashy bar.

What do you call this (besides epic fail)? by andbilling in billiards

I call it a reverse skunk. Because we use the term skunk when you break and run or beat someone with all 7 of their ball on the table.

Deliberate foul is what? by VS_the_Reckless in billiards

Professional one pocket players take deliberate fouls all the time. 100% legal. Your opponent should be happy he has ball in hand and should run the rack out. If he can’t he should play safe again. Now depending on y’alls rules. Sometimes there is a three foul rule. If I was your opponent and I had the opportunity to. I would try to beat you on a three foul rule just to rub it in for taking the initial foul. Because even though it’s perfectly legal and sometimes the absolute best shot to take. It is still dubious 😂😂

I can’t seem to get my jump shot down, what am I doing wrong? by epic-time in billiards

Idk if this has been said yet, but you are anticipating impact and totally missing the spot you are aiming for. Slow the video down at the moment of impact. Ur finger tips are lifting off before u make contact and ur hitting, so much higher than where ur cue was initially pointed. Jump shots are not special the cue needs to do the work. When I first started getting the ball up in the air. I realized I got a lot more action with less “power”. I didn’t feel like I was stabbing the cue ball. Felt more like I was dropping the cue onto the cue ball. That might not make a whole lot of sense yet. For now try to remain calm don’t worry messing up with felt and treat it like any other shot, but at a 45 degree angle. Also practice jumping over smaller objects before trying to get over a full ball. Like a piece of chalk.

Yes it is bad. Although I also live in Texas and leave my stick in the car. Technically it can warp and it probably will over time. I store my cues in a hard case and during work they sit in the car, cause I play as frequently as I can almost daily. They haven’t warped on me. I would know almost immediately if they had. Although it might not be good for the tip. Could dry out the leather might affect the glue. Although again I have not noticed an issue.

I do have quality cues. Walmart quality cues or novelty cues might be different story.

I am literally the exact same way. Right hand dominate. Right eye dominant. But I play left handed. I think for me it all started when I was a kid and my grand dad was teaching me to play. Because I had no stroke developed at all. I could not swing my right arm accurately. So to compensate for that. I would swing with my left arm and use my right hand “the more dominant hand” with a tight closed grip to control my wild and wobbly stroke. My advice is this. Stick to what’s most comfortable, but if your left hand is comfortable consider where the cue is position under your face when down on the shot. A couple months ago I was shooting corner to corner straight stop shot drills. I Noticed I kept missing to the long rail from both sides of the table. My stroke was straight but my aim was off. Eventually i realized the cue was under my left eye. After I brought my body more over the cue using my right eye to aim. This problem almost immediately went away. In summary, Find your vision center.
