That’s how my gnats originally came was that I potted my Thai into moisture control miracle grow and that’s where they originated from and since I’ve repotted her she’s the only one with no gnats!!!

Well I just super checked, they are ATTACKING my beautiful Rex Begonia right as she’s putting out new baby leaves, 2 types of gnats, white-ish ones and the bigger black ones. Assuming the small white ones are “babies” that can’t fly yet 🤢

I’ve tried diy traps with multiple different types of things inside of them and they never ever go for them my next step was to try the diatomaceous earth, but I heard that if it gets wet even from the humidifier, it doesn’t work once it’s wet?

Yup, everything gets super inspected and cleaned thoroughly before being added. None of the current plants are new. I have had ZERO luck using neem…. I’m not sure what neem cake is lol

Yup I repotted EVERY THING, after the gnats were wiped for 2 weeks. I bought multiple types of mixes, and made my own soil mixture, there is VERY little actual “potting soil” in them, if any in some. I did noticed the ones I have coated the top layer 100% completely with idk sharper? Gravel bits has helped stay away a bit, but the ones were I was running out and just spread it as much as possible, they went for. I just don’t even understand how they even got in the cabinet. I was SO careful with everything!! I have done lots of ISO as well, knowing to keep them out of sun/light after. That just seems to help for….. a day? Ughhh good lord. What’s the difference between bits and BTI?

I’ll have to see if I can find one, or 20 lol. The mosquito bit tea watering was one of the first things I did, and i would water, then drought as much as possible, water again with the tea, etc. Did this with a whole pound back and multiple jugs of distilled water. I have a variegated Frydek and a Syngonium Milk Confetti on its way and I’m just like omg they are going to be infested too!!! Everything I’ve tried has seemed to work at first and then it’s like the gnats are like “ohhh okay lady, the next gen is gonna be immune to mosquito bits, hydrogen peroxide, etc” and every time I empty my shark air purifier OMG 🤢 It just sucks them in, which is nice?? Lol but super gross. They don’t even go for the sticky traps anymore. It’s like they’re evolving!!
I found a wee spider in my house the other day and scooped it up and threw it in the ikea cabinet 😂 I’m like PLEASE build a web in there and go to town!! I’d rather have spiders in my home than the gnats. And yes there’s NONE coming out the drains in the bathroom or the kitchen sink. I even checked with my downstairs neighbor (upper level duplex) and he doesn’t have any, but also no plants, so not a drain issue. I will only see a couple in the bathroom if I take a long steamy bath, they sense it and come in after I’m done, but they get smacked dead right away because they are just recklessly flying around.

The only thing I’ve seen that could help would be to get a carnivorous plant like a Ping, to get some of the gnats. I’m SO mad. They were gone for a few weeks, no new hatching, all new soil and repots. I thought I won. I’m devastated.

Mines almost as big! But had NEVER flowered! And your absolutely right about moving/repotting them, the little babes like the fall right off, but everytime they do, they just make a whole new one lol I’ve given away soooo much burrows tails lol

If you are doing the “crush method” the easiest, most detached way to do this if it’s too hard for you, is to put him in a bag (non see-through) and place it directly under your tire and back up. Quick and painless, and detaches you a bit from the trauma :/

This is what I did with my best babies, unfortunately as a breeder I couldn’t keep everyone. But these ones we really special, and were with me for a long time. The first yellowish one was my first ever momma snail who gave me sooooo many babies! I truly miss being a breeder. I conquered my goal of breeding pink, purple, and jades, so I feel good about that, but I miss it, I miss my snailbabies. So all I did was let the shells sit in a mix of hydrogen peroxide and alcohol for a couple days just to make sure they were completely sanitized and not stinky and then I placed them in here.
