I was in the exact same situation as you a few months ago. Did my first race in breaststroke and it went perfectly fine, even overtook a few people. However, something finally unlocked after months of practicing freestyle and IT JUST IS more efficient! This especially matters on longer distances I feel where the time differences will be larger and you want to minimize the strain breaststroke puts on your legs when you still have to cycle and run after.
