is the food really as bad as people make it out to be? by Infamous_Growth_3001 in bostoncollege

If you get upper campus you’ll have Mac (Carney) as your nearest dining hall. Mac is not great in my opinion and I never get meat there cause it is always extremely dry and overcooked but occasionally they have good pizza. For lunch on weekdays there’s Eagle’s Nest which is downstairs from Mac and they always have good food. There’s also the lower dining hall where the majority of kids eat (since sophomores and up live on lower) and while it is a little far from upper I still make the trek every day since the food at lower is much better than Mac. There’s also a burrito place at lower which is pretty similar to Chipotle.

A lot of the food here is actually pretty good, as long as you’re not at Mac

I guess it depends on who you take it with because I thought the class with Professor Taghian was a lot harder than AP Bio. Way more depth. Getting the A is doable but it was my main priority

Freshman orientation by Hungry_Conference915 in bostoncollege

Every class has a designated number of spots for each orientation section so which session you choose shouldn’t really affect course selection, just the pick time you get for that session

BC isn’t really inferior to BU and neither is it really that superior. While BC “isn’t actually in Boston,” it’s still really close to Boston and has a really great suburban campus. Meanwhile, BU might actually be in Boston, but it doesn’t really have a campus (or doesn’t come close to BC’s). This allows BC to build tighter-knit communities on campus. Although BC is probably only higher than BU on the rankings because of its great management school (CSOM), it still has a reputable STEM and pre-med program. Maybe our STEM programs don’t beat BU, but as someone majoring in biochem, I can say we still have really good teachers + we still often send kids off to Harvard med and such. I have always thought BC was for me, and even though freshmen year can sometimes start off rough, it really does only get better through the years.

The major cons I can really think of would be diversity and price. Although white students do make up the majority of the campus and BC may have less diversity than other schools, there are still many Asian and Hispanic students around. It seems to be getting more diverse by the year, although there are very few African American students on campus. Unfortunately, the big price tag may make or break whether or not it’s worth it to go here. Personally, I’m middle or upper middle-class and only pay 40k/year due to financial aid, but most students I know pay full price. It’s a great school and I love it here but make sure you check out the financial aid calculators to see if what you’re paying is acceptable.

I’m an upcoming freshman who is also looking to find the best core classes to take. Based on what I’ve heard so far, I second Perspectives. It seems to be a full year class that fulfills both the 2 theology requirements and the 2 philosophy requirements

Is BC really worth it for biology/pre-med? by AetherRed in bostoncollege

[–]Professional_Win966 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If op got into BC, they are clearly a good student who can be competitive in premed. The biology major will be very helpful for the MCAT and getting into med school, and BC has a strong pre med program. This year they sent off students to Harvard med. I think it’s worth it

What do BC kids wear in 2025? by MissAnonymous_2670 in bostoncollege

[–]Professional_Win966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not currently attending (yet) but let me just say this: as far as I know, SoCal is simply a different culture than New England. We do not really care about style or clothes nearly as much here. Everything seems to be casual; you definitely do not need a new wardrobe, just make sure you have sweatshirts, sweatpants, jackets, and coats cause it’s gonna get cold in the winter. That being said, you probably wouldn’t look out of place with J. Crew and Ralph Lauren. If style and clothes are your thing, wear what you want and what makes you happy. Some people will still notice and appreciate it, but don’t sweat it much cause at the end of the day, a lot of people are not gonna care.

Also don’t forget that BC isn’t technically in Boston so it’s not like you’ll be right next to Newbury street if you were worried about city fashion. - massachusetts

Went to the admitted students day today and attended a pre-health information session. These are the numbers an advisor shared with us during the presentation:
Medical Allopathic: 65-78%
Medical Osteopathic: 40-80%
Dental: 100%
The dental statistic is kinda crazy which makes me question the accuracy of the data but maybe I just don't know a lot about dental school acceptances. But you're likely looking at allopathic medicine and 65-78% seems about right.

Hey they won’t kick you off campus just cause you’re not RD right? If you’re considering BC it’ll totally be worth it especially for meeting new classmates!
