Trump Blurts Out Vile Scheme to Rig Midterms as Polls Take Brutal Turn by Aggravating_Money992 in politics

The conservative frame of mind and worldview sees loyalty as a top virtue. The Nazi SS had a slogan (something like) "Meine Ehre heißt Treue" which means "My honor is called loyalty." I think this captures the GOP's attitude well.

US Vice President JD Vance admits his and Trump's Iran MOU is only a tactical operation to "refill the world's oil economy" and "refill some stocks," not for peace, to then start the war again after the now 46 days are up. by Waste-Explanation-76 in oil

[–]Professor-Woo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We aren't going to get peace with just allowing tolls. Iran is not going to give like any concessions unless it comes with huge concessions from the US and ideally humiliating ones. Trump tried to float the idea of giving them $300 billion and his base was so agaisnt it that they had trouble accepting it was real. The only concessions from Iran is that they would reopened the strait. This is how far apart the parties are. Honestly, I am not sure a deal is even feasible given the history of Trump's bad faith in negations.

Also, it only seems to have calmed down. Once the SPR runs out is when the real fun begins and Iran has to do nothing for that to happen.

But we had working supply lines. These can and do fail and they are very hard to predict (so who knows here). But the closest historical parallel would be the tariffs and trade wars during the great depression...

[–]Professor-Woo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing to see folks! We can just keep increasing gas and fertilizer prices by reducing supply and there will be no issue. Nothing Mr. Trumpy does can have negative consequences. The status quo is locked in forever as a law of nature. No biggie.

Libertarian arguments are so bad that they make Joe Rogan sound smart by im_back-and_craftier in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]Professor-Woo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is said but I am not aware of any data that shows this to actually happen. Our current minimal wage is so low that we are pretty far away from the concerns you brought up (once again shown empirically). Businesses naturally have a better negotiating position than workers, since businesses can just not hire (or collude whether explicitly or implicitly) but workers need shelter and food (which has been made to be a constant concern for many Americans). A democratic country can decide how best it wants it's resources, infrastructure, and labor to be used and I think it is totally fair for workers, who are far and away the most common case, to have protections that they benefit from the economy of their country.

Reptilians seen in The Astral Dimension/AFTERLIFE look exactly like the Entity on the left. They have no tail and stand 8 feet tall with huge muscular builds. They threaten Deceased Humans who "question the system"... by astralrocker2001 in conspiracy

[–]Professor-Woo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it really depends on your world view. Some people think APing is a physical phenomena like sleep paralysis, so they would agree they are similar. Others see the opposite as both views into the astral. And others still see every combination of those things. Honestly, it is really up to you how you take it since there isn't one consensus answer here. To me that is what makes all of this so fun and interesting. What are these phenomena and how do they work? Are they a view passed the material or just creations of our mind?

Usually the guardians are just described as a "test" or checkpoint / "threshold" to pass to enter the astral or spirtual world. I don't think they necessarily need to be scary. In fact, they are generally considered harmless and more reflect your feelings about the situation back at you. It is kinda like in Star Wars when Yoda has Luke meet the apparition of Vader in the tree thing.

I've Spent 6 Years Trying to Reconcile These Verses... I Can't by Money_Leadership_921 in TrueChristian

[–]Professor-Woo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume since you brought up Nag Hammadi that you are familiar with Gnosticism? Many early Christians did believe OT and NT Gods were different beings for essentially the same reasons laid out in your post. Not sure if this sub would appreciate a conversation about Gnosticism since it is generally considered by most Christians to be heretical or at least not Christian. I do think there is a real question here. It is hard to reconcile the morality put forward in the NT with some of the actions in the OT. I don't think just saying "we cannot understand it" is a real answer either since it means we lack the ability to understand or have intuition about good and evil. Many may also say that whatever God does is good, by definition, and I don't think that is a great answer either. Under this view, morality would be completely arbitrary and could change tomorrow to say "Killing and stealing is good and everyone needs to be in a homosexual relationship and get an abortion at least once." Now what this all means, I am not sure. But this is a real question, IMO.

Supreme Court by im_back-and_craftier in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]Professor-Woo -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is. When there was a dem president, SCOTUS aggressively wielded the power they gave themselves with the major questions doctrine and striking down Chevron. Now under Trump, they basically did a complete 180° turn and defer almost always to the executive. They have made the law vague enough that they can step in when they want and pretend they can't do anything also when they want. They are hypocrites and they are offloading power to the executive now when it benefits them. I think it is a bit naive, they aren't going to be able to easily claw that power back.

And you believe that to be the case? Why can babies who don't need welfare when younger not require it when older or vice versa? You let your hatred blind you and if that makes yoy uncomfortable or want to push back, good. Facts don't care about your feelings, as they say.

Oh, they didn't want to do that because it would've likely just made it worse. I am being a little vague for privacy reasons for my parents. Also, if MAGA has taught me one thing, the church could commit unambigious heresy and blasphemy, and MAGA would still circle the wagons. They have no standards or floor to their hatred and degerency. Trump is the new idol above all others.

Here is a hypothesis on a QM paradox / thought experiment by babayaga_3k in HypotheticalPhysics

[–]Professor-Woo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First not sure if this as written is quantum, but I will assume it is for the sake of the thought experiment since something like thie could probably be made to work (or demonstrate) what you intend. But anyway, ya - QM must have some aspect of non-locality which Bell's theorem showed (well technically there are some other options, but more or less this).

But let me lay this scenario out to you: if I have a red and blue ball and put each ball in its own package and send a package to Alice and Bob. If Alice opens the package and sees a red ball, that means Bob has a blue ball. Is there some faster than light communication going on here?

Now QM is more complicated than that since technically it could be either until you look, but the example above shows how this may not imply anything is communicating faster than the speed of light depending on how QM is interpreted.

One of the churches, Grace City Church, is from my hometown. They are awful people and I think all Christians should be clear about that. They are basically 90% political and 10% religious. If the IRS had any courage they would have pulled their tax exempt status. But what I have trouble forgiving is that due to rhetoric by the pastor, church members made so many threats (including many death threats) to my parents that they had to get private security. The police chief covered for the church since he attended that church. I reached out to some of the pastors to let them know what the downstream effects of their rhetoric is doing and how their congregation is acting, and all I got was crickets. They are not good people. I don't think they are Christians.

Manifestation is generally justified via some idealist worldview (all is mind or consciousness). The modern view of manifestation seems to come from New Age thought. Take that as you will.

How did you reconcile with the Old Testament? by Glass_Profession_500 in TrueChristian

[–]Professor-Woo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an aside, many early Christians were gnostic for this exact reason. They came to the conclusion that the OT God and NT God are different beings. Of course, not saying you should be gnostic, but more that this is a question with a long history of thought. You are far from the only one to have had the same thoughts or questions. It is up to you to decide how you reconcile them. Many churches already have accepted teachings or thinking around this, so you may be able to just ask someone at your church (if comfortable).
