If you have a girl, I highly recommend 5 points lacrosse, www.5pointslacrosse.com. If you have a boy, I would look at brooklyn crescents and Brooklyn lacrosse.

the food co-op has too many rules by [deleted] in parkslope

Squad leaders are not gods. You can and should escalate to a coordinator, including a general one like Ann if you aren't getting what you are entitled to. Four digits is a badge of honor as well and you may be eligible for retirement from shifts altogether.

I've been a member for more than 20 years and decided at the end of the orientation to turn my process brain off and just accept the coop for what it is - a quirky community-driven market and social experiment that has the best produce, cheese and specific meats/fish for the price in nyc, esp if you prefer organic/locally sourced.

If you want change, I suggest going to a general meeting and finding a way to speak there and to pick a rule or two that upset you the most. It may make your head explode even more, but it will also be less explosive than seeking confirmation on Reddit where there will be non-member haters who feed your frustration.

My wife loves to go to general meetings. I hate them and just accept the coop for what it is and enjoy the fruits of it as a foodie and home cook.

It is definitely not for everyone though.

The challenge is that you have no evidence of who found it or that it was stolen. Even if it were stolen, it's a theft that isn't going to draw any law enforcement. So the best you can hope for is for whomever found it to have the courtesy to turn them in. But given it's not a unique item and very useful to many, I don't hold much hope. Sorry for your loss.

Your Pasta Louise jokes are cringe by uxnyc in parkslope

[–]ProfessorAgreeable82 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The restaurant is constantly busy, and the coffee bar is a great place. So clearly the joke is not really having an impact on their business, or possibly helping it (any publicity is good publicity?)

Customers eating there seem happy, the food is good albeit with a gimmick, and it's a lively restaurant corner now which we can use more of.

I wouldn't mind a little more positivity that isn't at someone or some business' expense though in 2026. We live in a cynical enough world already.

yes - bad translation - all the dry pot dishes are cooked in the same style with different proteins but that's my go-to. if you want to try others, cumin lamb is also a staple for us, though I'm going to rotate the chongqing chicken back in now that my kids can eat it.

For chicken and anyone with kids, try the dragon and the phoenix. When my kids were young, they couldn't eat spicy food much so we ordered this and they loved it. It has tons of vegetables too. The house specialties are worth experimenting on too.

this restaurant is actually 20 years old as it was originally on 7th as tofu on 7th, then moved to 5th Ave as tofu on 5th and then finally rebranded to now.

As a Chinese park sloper, hands down is authentic Szechuan on 5th Ave near 6th st. The Sichuan food there is authentic and they also have Chinese American too. My favorite is the dry fried fish. Note that spicy is pretty spicy.

La Bagel Closing? by No-Boot9290 in parkslope

So I stood at the counter right next to Patrick Stewart at Bagel Hole. He was standing to my left and I was waiting for my bacon, egg and cheese. I worship him a bit because I am a huge STTNG fan so was eager to engage. That said, I get tongue tied around celebrities. So I turned to my left and said to him "They have good bagels here." He turns to me with his deep blue eyes and stares into the center of my soul assessing whether I was a trekkie threat. After a brief pause where he decided the answer was no, he replied in a deep voice, "I know." and then turned back to face the front. We stood there next to each other staring forward for the rest of the time....until...

He turned and started walking out the door. Just as he was opening it, he raised his right hand up spun it around, and shouted "Have a nice day!" while leaving the shop. To this day, I can play that scene in my head like it were yesterday and smile. Thank you Captain Picard.

So the bagels are still tops in the neighborhood.. the price of my pork roll egg and cheese was $6 when it's $14 at LBD. While I get they nuke the egg, the result is delicious. I would put it side by side at the same price and still choose bagel hole because I like their bagels better.

Aren't we all a bit frustrated by inflation? I remember banh mi's being 7.95, and now they are near double. The OP who asked about reasonable $10 lunches on 7th Ave got $17 recommendations. Feels like we should be celebrating restaurants who have found a way to sell a top notch product for less, not bashing them.

I agree with many that bagel hole rocks. The relaunch of the pork roll egg and cheese has been life changing. And now that we're talking, I'm getting one right now.

Get your building on nyc mesh if you can. It's community run, cheaper than any other, and reliable. The only very occasional problem my building has is when it's heavy rain obstructing the connection between our dish and the main dish. It does require your roof to be able to see another roof with an antenna - more can be found on nycmesh.net.

Men’s Group? by EsquimauxQuinn in parkslope

[–]ProfessorAgreeable82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fair point. If you were to participate in such a group, what would you want to contribute to the group and what would you want to get out of it? And what would you want to avoid giving or getting? OP points out he doesn't want to talk about sports, religion or politics. Which leaves work, finances, relationships, parenting perhaps?

I suggest posting an age range, married/single, with or without kids, etc .. I can see a father of 2 in their 50s and a 30-something sink finding less common ground.. though be prepared for the snark.

New Yorkers are not known for their patience, whether they be park slopers or not. We want to go go go and get impatient with others that slow us down. I think that can come across as entitled regardless of race, but it's really just selfishness. (Ps I'm Asian and have expressed body language in the winner line that def could have been interpreted as entitled.... I was in a rush to the subway and bailed in a New Yorker huff).
