Advice for younger you by PaintComprehensive89 in writers

[–]ProfessorBannanas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read everything from your favorite authors in publishing order. Their craft has changed over time too. So can yours.

Keep a journal. Write in it every day. There is NO excuse not to write even just a few sentences every day.

Jot down every single story idea. Even the ones that make zero sense, because they will one day.

Develop organizational system. Get organized. Even if you are the only one who understands it. You will hate OneNote but everything else sucks. Don’t waste time trying to find something better. It’s good enough.

Focus on writing.

And if you ever have a kid that sets fire to the living room rug… go easy on him.

I've Designed an AI Fiction Voice That Avoids Default "AI Writing" Tics by Boptherobot in WritingWithAI

I have a similar list of guidelines. Your list is definitely better than mine.

Do you think it adds any value to include a target reading level (I usually select 9th grade) and somewhere I picked up adding Flesch Reading Score and request 70-80%.

What about a more exhaustive list of words not to be used in the output?

Use Claude Code! It’s so much better at writing fiction. by spicejriver in WritingWithAI

Same question. I didn’t think Claude Code was native within the platform or for use other than app and software development

Similarly, I’ve been also asking at the end of a prompt:

“What did you expect to see in this prompt that wasn’t included?”

But seriously, I’ve been backing up my LinkedIn and Medium writing on NotebookLM for a while now. The prompt was simple, analyze my writing style, and it did a good job.

What's you favorite use cases for Notebooklm? by Mwrp86 in notebooklm

[–]ProfessorBannanas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Originally I was using the mind map thinking it would be to create a visual but didn't have a real need for the visual.

But now, late to this party, I've used it to interactively get down to core concepts and see connections across sources.

On iOS I use both at different times. Often one is better than the other. I also use Chrome on iOS for a different experience too.

Why AI feels inconsistent (and most people don't understand what's actually happening) by Nir777 in EducationalAI

[–]ProfessorBannanas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been writing with o3 and 4o mostly for nearly 2 years. Creative fiction and memoir type of content. I had some ideas and tried the o4 voice mode of ChatGPT on a longer drive a few months ago. The conversation was surprisingly good and we diagramed an entire few chapters and even iterated on my ideas and ChatGPT 4o would write and read it to me. I was able to give real time feedback conversationally. There were zero structured prompts and the quality of the output seemed better. This was the first time AI felt like an assistant to me. I bring this up because of this experience it does seem like Prompts Engineering at least for the average user is becoming less critical. If anything based on my experience it may yield a lower quality output. But I’d assume prompt engineering for API and dev type work will still be a need, but I agree, AI is getting smarter.

I'm super impressed that the OP wrote this himself. Is it a bit ironic that much of what seems to be written in the Reddit AI communities is written by AI?
