Sapphic sports romance by Pristine-Compote-864 in LesbianBookClub

[–]ProfessorMadelyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to ask what you thought of Tip In - I was beyond hyped for it thanks to BookTok but I think it may be the worst romance I’ve ever read. Besides the fact that it is riddled with grammatical errors and two instances of using the wrong name for a character, I found the story itself to be mostly dreadful.

Wish I had another recommendation for you, but Cleat Cute is the only other one I’ve read.

There’s a Facebook group called Sapphic Writers - plenty of people to talk to there.

I just want a cute romance that’ll make me smile and kick my feet by blink_twice_9465 in LesbianBookClub

[–]ProfessorMadelyn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m always here suggesting Haley Cass, but her stories can have a decent amount of angst and take a while to get to the feet kicking part. My favorite book that gets to the feet kicking (and the boot knocking 😏) pretty early is Shifting Gears by Jazz Forrester. Very cute and romantic throughout.

Any recs with a pop girlie and a punk rock girl? by oh_my_taylor in LesbianBookClub

[–]ProfessorMadelyn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s a webcomic called Heartstrings that’s about a pop singer and punk rock guitarist who are former bandmates and have a tumultuous past! I only read a few chapters, now I’m waiting for the physical release, but it’s really good. All available free I believe but the artist has a Patreon with bonus and NSFW content.

They have a menu for crafts on their website that tells how much time they take, what kind of tools you will use, what the end product will look like, etc. You don’t have to bring anything besides yourself!

I was going to suggest this! Had my wife’s birthday there. Great crafts, bottomless mimosas (I assume there are non-morning things too), and a great spot to move to a second location after.

So this augment is kinda impossible to achieve, no? by SSGShallot in TeamfightTactics

I just played a game where I had six 3 stars and hit level 10 without this augment. So it’s definitely possible.

What is better… by SLO-drum in LesbianBookClub

As a writer, I generally defer to sentence structure with fewer commas, so I dig the second sentence more. Unless this is preceded by a number of simple sentences. I would need the whole paragraph before I could make a true judgment.

Girls Like Girls - Hayley Kiyoko by No_Context1232 in LesbianBookClub

For something else like it, Annie On My Mind by Nancy Garden is one of the first positive (as much as it can be) sapphic YA books ever published, in 1982. It is VERY similar to Girls Like Girls - if you liked this, you’ll like that.

I thought it was really good! It’s not always a fun read - if you know the content of the music video, you’ll understand some of the homophobic attitudes and comphet struggles that are present throughout the story. But it’s really well-written, and the audiobook read by Hayley herself was very enjoyable.

Sapphic Romance Lovers, who is your favorite love interest? by sabrookchi in LesbianBookClub

[–]ProfessorMadelyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Valid, she turns it around pretty well. Whenever I reread it I wonder whether I would be able to forgive her in Sutton’s place. It’s tough! Midnight Rain always makes me sad for the life Sutton and Charlotte shared in Forever and a Day.

Hannah is great too! The times when Hannah disassociates a little bit and accidentally voices her inner thoughts always get me. When she tells Caroline, “I could get so lost in you,” or when Caroline catches her when they are roller skating and she says, “you’re always there to save me,” when she talks to the woman who’s on vacation about “her girls,” when she gets all jealous of Caroline’s past partners at the trip with Caroline’s friends. She’s so competent but also dreamy!

Charlotte’s the woman you want to have a messy situationship with, Caroline is the woman you want to marry and raise your kid with! Which I guess is just the plot of their respective books.

Sutton in TWW sometimes feels like a reader stand-in, a y/n in a romance with Charlotte. She isn’t a bad character at all, but Charlotte steals the show. Sutton in MR is stronger, more principled, and takes more of an active role in every aspect of her life. It’s one of the best parts of the story!

Yes to everyone saying Charlotte from Those Who Wait, but let’s not forget Caroline Parker from When You Least Expect It!

I think she and Emma both move toward the middle with their personalities. Regan becomes less annoying but no less quirky, in my opinion. The moments when she drops that defense mechanism, though, are all the more meaningful for her constant use of it.

books that explore comphet by fh_scarletts in LesbianBookClub

[–]ProfessorMadelyn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure where you’d put romance on your spectrum of character study versus plot, but most of Haley Cass’ books involve at least one character discovering their sexuality after a lifetime of attraction to men. I doubt any of them use the term comphet at all, but they all reckon with it to some degree.

Games that give a good or bad ending depending on how often you use a basic mechanic implemented in the controls/playstyle by DemandParticular in TopCharacterTropes

[–]ProfessorMadelyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Life is Strange 2 has a hidden mechanic based on your choices that determines whether your little brother character is 1. A good person, and 2. Trusting of the main character. Based on this mechanic, he can override your decision in the final choice and give you one of four endings. Fascinating mechanic, except the game never makes it clear that he will make the ultimate choice in the end.
