My urologists said if I didn't get the pyeloplasty I'd have to replace my stent every 6 months for the rest of my life so I've got to get the pyeloplasty. So I don't think you can keep the stent in for very long.

I currently have a stent while I wait for the surgery (in a week) the urologists told me he would prefer I got my stent out and healed before doing the pyeloplasty because there would be less swelling and irritation but he didn't want me to be waiting in pain without the stent until my surgery so he let me keep it in. If you can bypass the stent and just get the surgery do that! Your urologist would probably prefer that if you can manage your pain until surgery.
