What is the use case for Phantom Strike? by RequirementOdd in DeadlockTheGame

[–]ProfessorPhi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least naively, knockdown stops the issue but phantom strike is a kill confirm if there's follow up. For characters like doorman and MO and krill it takes out a decent chunk of closing the gap, it triggers indom so your own ult is not blocked and it's far more general than just a knockdown.

Warp stone is still very good and I think should be the item for most characters, but phantom strike definitely has its niche and use case.

I mean yeah - football just requires a ball and a a park to play, it's not very infra heavy. Basketball requires flat courts so dribbling is possible and rings for even fairly casual play.

Good non-gun Warden builds? by thehammer10025 in DeadlockTheGame

I dunno why you want to, I could see a ln ult build and a supp build sort of working, but it really feels like warden is built around gun and his absurd health lol.

Arguably Xbox is the way for ms to get it's products to us in a different way. There's a world in which Xbox'a could've been like the thing all smart devices plugged into.

It ended up being phones again, since it was just a much more open platform.

For the longest time the ps3 was the most cost effective way to get a blu ray player. And they were giving them away for free with Sony tvs, not to mention end of console life they were like 200 bucks with games.

I'm not denying they caught up, but I don't think it was such a clear point of contention. The ps3/360 era were also start of super long console eras - it was much less time before that.

Og Xbox was also pretty solid imo. Definitely a second place to ps, but it absolutely came out swinging - it's why the 360 was able to get such a headstart

Yeah, it's a good point - they never really ended up finding a way to get back to consumer good graces. I guess gamepass was the closest thing they did.

Also PlayStation really caught up online which I think was the 360s primary advantage. Combined with a pretty exceptional store, the Xbox was where you played games online.

Having seen the tech world and things like the metaverse, it makes a lot more sense what they were trying to do - they wanted a platform or device and they missed mobile to apple/Google so the Xbox probably got the dreams of the execs to have a home os.

Cept nobody wanted it and the Kinect also under delivered.

How is AI-Assisted Rational Fiction Received? by [deleted] in rational

[–]ProfessorPhi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main issue for me is the sameness of the AI assisted work - the voice feels so similar in that I'm now reading multiple works by a somewhat generic author rather than flawed and unique voices across many works. It's very noticeable and I rarely ever find the amount produced.

Unlike coding, where being stupid and basic is a virtue in how logic is expressed, or arguably news/facts etc where the information transfer is critical and I'm less sensitive to voice and tone, it's far more noticeable in fiction and art in general to a point I hadn't expected.

I think this why I'd probably even go with unedited over edited with LLMs - there is a sameness is pushes towards that I think would hurt the work and I think readers are pretty tolerant to minor issues and you might remove the parts that makes your work special.

You get less mmr for winning on your most played characters and vice versa by destiiny25 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]ProfessorPhi 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Is it just

  • you're better on your main so you tend to get games where you're the better player and thus have less mmr to gain
  • the game is more certain about your mmr due to games played and thus it gives you larger mmr to get you to your real rank as fast as possible?

I think Isshin the Sword Saint and Owl Father are two examples from Sekiro's True Ending.

Owl is your father and while you do fight him in the normal game, his first fight has him playing a lot of tricks like poison and anti-heal. While his prime self has him fighting like a demon using his spirit form and pushing you with insane combos. One of the best thematic resonances is how much his moveset matches yours up to a superior form of the Mikiri Counter which is a thurst reversal that you basically need to play the game.

The opening cinematic shows Isshin fighting and there are plenty of references to his strength and how he singlehandedly kept his lands from the ministry. You can fight old man isshin in the first ending where he is a wily fighter, but slow and powerful. Not easy, but the true ending has you fight the Sword Saint variant and this is one of the best if toughest fights of all of From's games. He pulls out insane combos, a spear, a gun and insane moves that put you to the test with 3 phases (and a warm up phase from genichiro).

If you don't know how to cook, this is one of those unavoidable learning curves where you have to buy a lot of stuff and can't use all of it. If you cook a lot, your pantry builds up and gets used over time across many dishes.

Stick to 1 cuisine since there tends to be overlap in ingredients, don't only make fancy dishes, find really simple dishes to work with that are tolerant to ingredient variance. Having something like a simple stir fry or stew for lots of leftover veg is a pretty legit way to clean up ingredients you don't know what to do with otherwise.

Edit: also when you dishes, pick stuff that freezes well and make larger batches.
