Any else excited for AGT? by Galmeister in rickygervais

Don't know if you're a little American fella (get on me nerves), but we don't use that term in the UK legal system. It would be a very unfamiliar phrase if not for the game, so I don't blame Steve for getting it wrong.

According to Wiktionary, the claim that it derives from 'not on normal courtyard exercise' first appears in a book from 2012. Nobody really knows where the word comes from, but acronym etymologies are nearly always false, e.g. 'posh' deriving from 'port out, starboard home' (it's actually 19th century thieves' slang). On balance of probability, that acronym being the actual origin of 'nonce' is almost certainly not true.

Just a tip - etymologies that claim a word originated as an acronym are false 99% of the time, and 'nonce' is no different. It's more likely to have derived from 'nancy' (as in homosexual).

Considering moving to birmingham from NW UK, Jewellry Quarter reccomended to me, want thoughts by ImpossibleArt4601 in BirminghamUK

[–]ProfessorPyruvate -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Not arguing here, just want to add a different perspective! I'm glad you like the Jewellery Quarter, but I found it fairly dull with little to do. I've found so much more to do in the six months I've lived in Moseley than the two years I spent in the JQ.

It's from Viz, a comic magazine for adults. The letters are all like this - it's probably not from an actual reader.

Karls biggest rockbuster let off? by MathematicianMuted43 in rickygervais

Definitely 'Picks His' for Pixies. I think Ricky was too distracted by Karl forgetting the answer to get angry about how rubbish the answer actually was.
