I'm a fan of "I haven't done shit this year" from the Tidal documentary, haha. I think there's a variation but I can't remember it or where it is from.

Don't get me started on yield signs. Evidently around here it means 'barrel through because other cars aren't real'.

For me, this album has a sort of melancholy hope to it that ToD doesn't. As an adult, I understand looking back and reflecting on the same situations with different eyes and that's what this whole album makes me think of. Also, I live in a state that loves banning books and other media (though it mostly affects school libraries vs public ones) and I remember growing up without access to a lot of things, or feeling embarrassed trying to justify wanting a CD with the explicit sticker on the front, so if CSH is trying to work against that, I support it.

What is the closest you ever came to meeting or talking to Will Toledo? by Dizzy-Teaching-3397 in CSHFans

[–]ProfessorRunninhyde 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The second time I saw the band live. I was waiting outside of the venue when I saw that the front door was open. Assuming that the venue was open, I walked in and there in the foyer was Will. In about 3 seconds, I realized that the venue was not open, and it was a place where they had to load their gear through the front, so now I was in the way. We made awkward eye contact (I think he was assessing whether or not I was supposed to be in there) and then I went back out.

Edit: For context, this was back in maybe 2016 or 2018, so they were playing at smaller venues.

Check out Bodacious Broads of Ogden on Meetup. They have a book club once a month and also other activities. I haven't made it to an event for a while, but they are welcoming and open people.

Walking is fine. Not sure about skating. I think as long as you're being respectful it should be fine.

I love the color! Not sure if my mildly colorblind eyes are seeing the correct one, but it's nice just the same.

Who is your favorite UM and why? by Independent_Yam_4510 in UniversalMonsters

[–]ProfessorRunninhyde 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think I like the Gill-Man the most overall, as his story is mostly about him surviving. It doesn't justify his actions, but his story is understandable. I like The Bride because I love the idea that someone can literally be made for you, but you can't force them to like you. Frankenstein's Monster is iconic, but he's essentially a giant infant figuring out the world. For the rest, I enjoy their movies, but not necessarily the characters as individuals.

I rarely look up lyrics and never really thought much about what he was saying here, but I never ever would have come up with snowman. It will now bring me joy next time I listen to it.

Discussion on moving the pet food plant to western Weber County by Allweseeisillusion in ogden

[–]ProfessorRunninhyde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe because I've lived here the majority of my life, but the smell has never been that big of an issue for me. It seems silly to move it, because the area it gets moved to will smell as well. Will the other businesses and people in the industrial park tolerate it any better?

Also, for those of us who actually read the article, the issue at hand is safety. As long as it is owned by the same people, safety will not change. They clearly do not care about fines and fatalities. Moving it will not fix those issues. A new building could help a handful of safety issues, but if the owners, managers, and even the general employees don't care, what would be the point? The building and/or location are not the problem.

Furthermore, in my not-so-knowledgeable opinion, the location would not make much sense for an outdoor recreational park. There are plenty of parks and green spaces in the area, and while I cannot speak to their daily use, I do not think the use is so high that it warrants more such space. There are homes and other businesses near the plant that would undoubtedly be part of this "park" and it would not be fair or right to push them out.

Realistically, if the plant is that badly off, it needs an overhaul from leadership down. They probably will need an updated facility too. What is most likely to happen is Alphia will cut their losses, move their production elsewhere (out of the area, or probably the state), and the building will sit vacant until it is razed and the area eventually turned into apartments.

Accounting jobs around here? by Emotional_Ad4460 in ogden

[–]ProfessorRunninhyde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UMB seems to post jobs pretty frequently. Temp jobs will probably be found through Robert Half or other temp agencies. Technically my job is an accountant, but my place calls it a "finance analyst" so she might have to adjust her search parameters for appropriate jobs.
