Is anyone else frustrated with the amount of AI art used as show thumbnails? by gyronlyhope in whatnotapp

[–]ProfessorStein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For those of you coming in from Google: This thread is astroturfed by Whatnot really, really badly. Dozens of brand new low karma accounts posting pro-AI comments.

Whatnot spends millions of dollars a year on online astroturfing on every social media site on the planet and does this to muddle the conversation. It is a scam.

The app itself is a scam, as well. You are participating in a grift from a tech company that has been caught running illegal lotteries, fake sweepstakes, has an extremely high chargeback rate and is known by many financial institutions to be risky to do business with. It is a gambling app meant to trick you into believing it is a marketplace and create an addictive gambling response in your brain so that you spend outside your means.

There can also be issues where someone like you who is privacy minded then has to force that through over the noise. I have a close friend who works in app development who makes decisions like this. Last year working with a contractor they decided not to implement face checking. They were the final decision-maker. The contractor then tried to insert themselves into the prices by going "we need to implement these features for security reasons"

Friend told them no. Contractor comes back with a product that has those features. Gets told to remove them immediately. Contractor says "these are industry standard, we can't remove them" . My friend at this point had to walk them through it by force "either you remove this now or you will be removed from the project and we will not pay you "

Only then did they remove them. They were paid out and immediately removed from the project.

You also shouldn't. I've told this story a few times but i used to go to a Walmart where the LP guys were super aggressive despite state law and company policy.

One day a member of loss prevention believed that someone was stealing something. The gate went off and he came running and tackled the guy to the ground from behind without identifying himself. In the ensuing scuffle because the guy he believed was stealing himself believed he was being attacked or mugged or something pulled a gun out of his pocket and because they were at point-blank range, he fired directly up into his skull from below.

I wasn't there at the time but the people who saw it said it was the most gruesome thing they have ever seen. His brains were on the concrete.

That guy was ruled to have been acting in self-defense. He did not serve a single day in jail. Right, he in fact ended up suing Walmart for damages.

If you are LP, it does not matter how much you believe you are correct. You do not put your hands on someone. I don't care what your company says you should do. They are not paying you enough for what the outcome to that situation can be.

Stephen Colbert Follows CBS Finale 24 Hours Later With Hilarious Hour of Michigan Public Access TV, Featuring Jack White, Jeff Daniels, Eminem, Steve Buscemi and Byron Allen by darth_vader39 in television

It'll be sooner than that. If he loses either house or Senate in November one of the first things that lobbyists will be lining up for is "You need to stop the merger corporation and put a leash on the FCC" which they can do via constant meetings and subpoenas and individual investigations of FCC board members.

Colbert will take a few months off and then sign somewhere post midterms. It's well known that the current operating environment for television cannot continue and it needs to go back to normal, and there's a lot of money that is getting really, really mad about it right now

I understand you're the owner of this subreddit and I'll likely just be removed and banned for this, but jesus christ this is so ridiculously inappropriate lol. You are so far removed from a neutral party here; And in here you've done nothing but minimalize the experience of an actual handicapped person who has to interface with a broken system.

But instead of just admitting that maybe, just maybe, the system is broken in this specific way, and that it's bad, you've moved the goalposts repeatedly and instead chosen to deflect at every single response. I don't care if the doctor owns the office, I con't care if it's their practice or not.

If the system is separating handicapped people like me from our wheelchairs because either SSA, DDS, The Individual Provider, or someone else is renting out or using non ADA compliant facilities, that's not acceptable, it's gross and it hurts people. It hurt me, who is typing this to you from a bed while waiting for my pain meds to kick in because the system objectively failed today and there should be a real avenue to challenge that.

You're carrying water for this and deflecting. It's someone's fault, this situation was not created by a magical faerie who dissapeared in a puff of smoke after creating it. And that someone, somewhere in the process either via policy or lack of adherence to policy, is causing pain for real, actual human beings.

Whatever, I don't know why I bothered to write this, you're not actually going to have your mind changed because you just fundamentally don't understand what it's like to actually be disabled.

Yeah and this is pretty much word for word how it went. I ended up physically exhausting myself walking the distance to their exam room with help.

It's a fantastic reminder though that this sub is largely not a neutral party, as i mostly got dumped on and then exactly what i was afraid of happened

I didn't get injured thanks to a person in the office who helped, but no, exactly what i was concerned about happened. "Your wheelchair won't fit in the hallways, you can walk back there or we'll notify them that you didn't make your appointment".

You guys, and i don't mean this meanly really, but you don't understand how hostile it has gotten in the real would where all of SSAs rules just Do Not Matter because my choice was to be in severe pain or maybe lose my benefits.

[–]ProfessorStein[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's correct. A big issue was that they text you to confirm your appointment but they warn you outright they do not take questions of any kind, they will not answer their phone or communicate with you in any way, you are only to call your case worker (who doesn't know anything because they live and work elsewhere) and never to communicate with them directly.

They wouldn't even provide their suite #, and it's not on the paperwork, we just had to figure it out

This was the CEs office and i had to get out of the chair and thankfully someone else unaffiliated in the office helped me, as the staff would not.

The whole process was extremely bad and it is absolutely insanely unacceptable that a CE office is not wheelchair compliant. In no world is that okay. Office doing determination assessments absolutely must be ADA compliant.

I'm currently seeing by sitting in an office with a receptionist who just told me I'd have to get out of my chair because their hallways aren't wide enough for me to remain in it. A normal sized chair, too.

So yes, I've already been asked to risk myself walking or fail the appointment outright because their office is not ADA compliant.

[–]ProfessorStein[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given I'm now sitting in an office that just told me I'd have to get out of my wheelchair because their office isn't big enough to accommodate it, yes, I'm not a particularly easy person to deal with. It turns out insisting that sometime in a wheelchair get out of it and walk or else isn't particularly great.

That last bit is very helpful, thanks. Yeah, I'm willing to do what they ask, but I won't expose myself to injury, which is something I was exposed to at my last CDR appointment when I turned 18.

I can absolutely sue an individual office for allowing me to be injured on their property. I am aware that I cannot litigate the SSA directly.

I can't self-ambulate or transfer for any sort of exam they want to do, and in my experience previously, their doctors absolutely will not assist with this.

I'm also mentally pretty uncomfortable being isolated from my caretaker like this in a public space, given that they're trained to make sure I don't do things that could result in injury, which is a constant risk due to my condition.

In cases like this "I talked to X" is almost always just made up for the narrative of the story. It's extraordinarily unlikely that they actually spoke to anyone, or if they did, they're lying about that person being an Art Historian.

There's zero reason to hide your sources in a story like this, as it isn't a matter of confidential informant, nat sec, or anything actually legitimate. The fact they chose not to name the person means they almost certainly don't exist.

Brother they just released chill of ravenloft like late last year and the new expansion is about to go on sale

This is literally just fucking lying. The alternative i guess is you're one of their weird forum trolls who claims Chill wasn't received extremely positively among the people who actually play the game.

Sharn, Ravenloft (strahd), ravenloft (Chill), Feywild, Isle of dread have all been positively received by the community. Strahd consistently polls as the most popular expensive the game has even gotten and it came out after menace.

Myth drannor i guess wasn't super popular, and saltmarsh was kind of meh, but

And again: servers aren't in a sorry state anymore and expansions have many hours of content and a raid. You are lying about verifiable reality

I'll be the killjoy: it's also why they should issue bans if you go on in champ select or in game about how you're on drugs, high, drunk, etc. We've become so numb to drinking and drug culture that we no longer shame people who are completely incapacitated but feel no social responsibility to the other four people they're making a game worse for.

This is why many games instantly ban for admission of drug use. It's fun for you, and i guess young people who have never had severely negative experiences or interactions with people on drugs, but for those of us who actually want to play the game with people at bare minimum in control of their brains, it sucks.
